No, they fail for completely different reasons.
And video-games corrupt kids in different ways. ;D

I'm guessing going on Pe2k almost every minute of the day counts as being on a video game...?
If so, I'm in top set for everything apart from History (which I hate), P.E (probably not the best example there, but I hate it) and R.E (which I hate and is linked with History so I had to be in set 2 for R.E since I was in set 2 for History).
And for all of them I'm at least in set 2.
So no, they don't.

I think kids fail in school due to other things than video games, such as family pressures, problems at school, difficulties with subjects and issues with self-esteem and general teenaged problems. Video games may play a part in this, but they do not have a vital role.

No, but they do drop marks...
I was getting 90+ averages before I got addicted to the comp.

Yes and no, but more of a no. You can learn many useful things with video games. Espcially Pokemon video games. They've taught me a few things now and then. But kids shouldn't play video games too long and just neglect their homework or else they'll probably fail (or their marks will drop). And I think IQ has a play in it, too. If both of their parents have low IQs they probably won't do very well in learning and finishing their homework (probably) because they find it hard to fit what they've learned inside their heads or understand (only if they push themselves very hard).

I honestly don't think so at all. Im in all honors classes and take extra classes for "gifted" students . Im also one of the best athletes in my grade and play many sports and still have time to play lots of video games. So no, I don't think they do.

I personally spend a lot of time playing video games and I am in the top 33% in my class GPA ratings, and some of my friends play video games a lot too, and they are in a higher % margin of our high school class than I am.
Also, some kids just have a hard time learning, which has nothing to do with video games. I believe the reason kids fail or succeed is mostly based off of what Neo Pikachu said and genetics, but thats just my opinion.

Of course not. Low quality teachers, insufficient support, lousy education choices... The list goes on. I know because I am a product of a not-so-good education system. With some time management skills, children can easily find time to play as well.

Not at all. I am in all GT (for those of you not in my area, this means Gifted/Talented) and AP glasses. I play videogames constantly. Even right now, I'm playing my NeonDS. So, I really don't believe that's what makes kids fail. However, for some it probably does. But mostly for other reasons.

It really depends. I mean, if that's all the kid ever does, doesn't read proper books, doesn't do their homework and has no idea how to add 3 and 4, then yes, it's gotta have an effect.
However, my brothers are playing video games all the time, and they're quite good at school. My brother, who's now in uni, is a straight A student, and he plays video games often.
It's probably a common culprit for helping some kids become side-tract from reality, but it doesn't mean that they're making them fail school. :3

Quoted for truth because I'm in complete agreement, and I don't think I can add anything else.
It's hard to blame anything but the child, anyway. But scientists found a way. :3

Video games are a reason why kids fail. It exposes the weaknesses of those who start to fail when they get addicted. Their weaknesses are what Neo said.
But they are not the reason why they fail. In other words, not the only one. You can get addicted to other stuff, too.
Therefore, since in general video games do not ruin kids... my answer: no.

What Neo said is true. The games themselves cause nobody any harm, it's the student's tendency to stop doing anything productive to play that makes them fail.
Then there are those that don't fail despite spending the whole day on the com, but those are special cases. And there are those that study as hard as they can but fail anyway, but that's just sad.
No, I think video games can stimulate imagination. I think it's a good thing, really.

If the people can study even after playing, I don't see why they should fail. I know someone who plays Runescape/Warcraft between 12-13 hours everyday- he's on the Hiscores of most MMORPG's.
We all expected him to fail during the Mid Term Examinations + Project Fortnight- and instead, he was rank second...on the entire campus. :\
