One Wish

We’re close, very close.
But not as close as I want to be.
We’re friends, no more than that.
Probably never will be, as a matter of fact.

I can try. I can cry. I can hope. I can pray.
You’ll always love me, in a friend type of way.
But allow me to dream, if I may.
I’ll always feel more, ‘till I’m old and gray.

I can’t change your mind, I’ll survive.
I’ve lived for years without you, and I can live some more.
Just don’t leave me behind.
Because I will miss you.

Listen to my words though, for they always speak truth.
Think about it, you know I’d always be there.
To hold you, love you, treat you right...
To protect you, with all my might.

I have but one wish now,
One goal in life.
Could you fulfil it, my one simple wish?
