Default All About Contests

Credits to Buoy

Welcome to the Contest section of the URPG. You are here because you want to become the top coordinator among us. Here, you will find a list of general information and rules coordinators may need. The Judging Encyclopedia will cover the more in-depth mechanics, so be sure to read both if you want to understand contests fully.

URPG
Contests are a division of the URPG program, and you will need to join that first in order to participate in any contests.

Next Step
Post your Contest Stats in at the Coordinator Stats board. Read the Rules on how to post your stats.

About Contests (R/S/E & D/P/P Modes)
Four coordinators will participate in any single contest, where only one can win. Two rounds will be judged and added up at the end for a final score. The highest score wins. After you read finish this thread, you might want to understand more about how contest works and their detailed mechanics. Or perhaps you might want to be a judge. Do visit Judging Encyclopedia. Alternatively, if you need information regarding the appeal effects of move, you can either go to Contest Moves List (R/S/E Mode) or Contest Moves List (D/P/P Mode)

The Primary Round consists of judging the Pokemonís attribute points. The higher your attributes like Cool or Cute, the better your Pokemon will do. The best way to score high points is to feed your Pokemon Pokeblocks. The Secondary Round is where strategy comes into play. Things to remember:
  1. There are only 5 turns (R/S) or 4 turns (D/P).
  2. Moves do different things in Contests than in Battle.
  3. Use moves that are for the specific contest to gain a bonus. Like Absorb for a Smart Contest.

About Contests (B/W Modes)
This style takes its roots from the anime style as seen in the television series. There will be two coordinators in each contest and only one can win. The match will be declared over when one coordinator has all his Pokemon knocked out or run out of PP. Alternatively, if you need information regarding the appeal effects of move, you can go to Contest Moves List (B/W Mode).

Having a Contest
To start a contest, visit the Forum Contest boards and you can find the Contest Signups stickied. Or find other members on messenger, like AIM, YIM, or MSN. Then, all participants must agree on the different kinds of rules that you can choose from (as shown later).

During the contest, you can be as open or as secretive as you want. Private messaging your stats and attacks to the Judge may be a better strategy than letting everyone know what you will use. Afterwards, the Judge will add up the scores and the results will be posted.

Berries and Pokeblocks

Berries
You may purchase berries at the Berry Store; they are also available as prizes in various parts of the URPG. They can be used to blend into Pokeblocks for Coordinators.

Pokeblocks
When you blend berries, you will receive a colored Pokeblock that you can feed to your Pokemon. Each Pokeblock comes with 5 attributes: Cool; Beauty; Cute; Smart; Tough, and Luster (Feel). Each attribute will be raised depending on the Pokeblock eaten, up to a maximum attribute level of 255 each. You are limited to the number of Pokeblocks a Pokemon can eat before it becomes 'full'.

Amount of Pokeblocks that can be fed
The general rule is that the attributes and the Luster is capped at 255. For attributes, if the attribute level is over 255 (eg. 270), it remains capped at 255. So for instance, if you have a Pokemon whose Beauty is at 200, and you feed it with a Pokeblock worth of 100 Beauty, the final Beauty attribute level is still 255.

However, the Luster is strictly capped at 255. This means that if you were to feed a Pokemon that already has 240 Luster, with a Pokeblock worth of 40 Luster, it is not allowed and is considered as illegal.

Clearing Luster
Once you feed your Pokemon Pokeblocks, its attribute levels remain as they are. However, you may bring your Pokemon to the Berry Store and remove all attribute stats to start over. It will give you a better chance at winning other contests, or you can do it if you messed up.

*Changing your attribute levels illegally will result in punishments.

Closing Statement

Cheating is not tolerated. There is no reason to even think about it because it will only hurt you in the end. Keep in mind that everyone is your competition. Thereís no reason to help others win, it takes the fun out of contests. As with everything else URPG related, cheating and abusing the system can end up with you being banned. And we donít want that to happen.

If you have any questions or comments, please direct them to the Contest Chat thread. Thanks for reading and we hope you have fun.
