The rain-spattered gem in Staryu’s center seemed to light up in response to its order. The brown-plated star rose slightly off the field; grass was still sticking to the triangular limbs and the glow in the gem conveyed annoyance. Even with its dim vision and the raindrops bouncing off the gem it saw with, the creature could see that the Oshawott was bracing itself for what came next.
There was a blinding flash and a deafening crack. Once it passed, AoiAki looked up in fear to see electricity glowing all along the Staryu’s limbs, just barely staying harmless above the plates. All the electricity was drawn with snowballing speed into the gem at the Staryu’s core. The red jewel lit up bright, and then, with another dazzling burst, a torrent of lightning flew from Staryu’s center. In the storm, AoiAki had no chance at dodging. The burst slammed into him at full force, sending huge shocks of electricity into the Oshawott. AoiAki fell backwards, crackling and wounded.
Slowly and stiffly, the Oshawott stood himself back up. He narrowed his eyes menacingly at Staryu; the electricity was still crackling all down his little body; the rain only made it worse. He closed his eyes – he could only guess why his Trainer had chosen the move she had – and lifted his paws, channeling energy into them. The rain around him seemed to condense into the orb, which glowed blue and appeared to ripple and shimmer, rather like a fishbowl. The Staryu’s gem seemed to blink in confusion as it watched.
With a burst of force, AoiAki slammed his paws down. The orb traveled with them, slamming into the ground and shattering into a giant wave of water. The vast majority of it sprayed toward Staryu, whose gem didn’t even have time to wink before the move hit. The sea star fell backwards onto the ground with a dull thud.
Staryu rose back up with relative ease. It turned itself in AoiAki’s direction, then slowly began to send energy to the tips of its points. The tips lit up a shimmering violet color, and then the star-like Pokemon began to twirl through the air. The purple light appeared to flow from its points and into the air, creating a shimmering purple barricade that rippled along the central swirling pattern in the middle. The Staryu dipped backwards a couple of inches; the glow in its gem seemed somehow smug.
AoiAki winced. The half-visible barrier would make his next attack even less damaging to the sea star; however, orders were orders, and AoiAki had no wish to disappoint his Trainer – or do nothing. He lifted his paws once more, and the rain seemed to give its last drops into the sphere that quickly formed. AoiAki threw the water down again, and it became a massive wave that arced towards the Staryu with impressive force.
However, as soon as the wave hit the Light Screen, it slowed to a crawl. The semitransparent barrier shimmered violently and rippled wildly, then suddenly reverted back to its original state as the water level began to drop. What did get through barely shook Staryu, and the water on its body began to dry quickly as the sun peeped out from behind the clouds.

And in the end found this world altogether lacking.
