[Neo Emolga]

I did contests for a little while just for laughs and giggles, but I never bothered with the musicals. From what I can tell, they should have kept the contests. I also think the contests would have been more interesting if the Cool/Smart/Beauty/Cute/Tough stats were excluded, and it was totally based off of moves instead.

But yeah, all in all, there should be more you can do with your Pokemon without battling them. It would be kind of cool if they had a carnival area and you could have your Pokemon participate in various midway games. Or laser tag. Or heck, have Pokemon playing crazy sports games instead. There's a truckload of things they could have done.
