Asharas was eager to give herself and her partner some cover from their opponent’s attacks. A black cloud began to spill from her mouth to the ground, quickly hiding the feet of the two dragons. Vanillite and Shuckle watched with horror as the smoke caused their opponents to disappear completely; trying to hit them would be a lot harder now. Once they were inside their protective fog, Gami could prepare to attack. She found a small rock on the floor of the arena and used it to sharpen her claws. Soon they were deadly weapons and the Druddigon was ready to strike.

Since their opponents were now cloaked behind the veil of smoke Trainer17’s pokémon also took a moment to prepare themselves a little better. Vanillite began to glow silver and speed around the pillars like a headless Torchic; he shed some of the ice which coated his body as he went. Due to the loss of this ice, he had become much lighter, her weight had halved, and able to move quicker – cancelling out the damage Shuckle had done in the last round. On the other hand, Shuckle made himself more of an offensive threat to the opponent. The bug-type began to flash in several colours, giving the audience an unexpected light show, as chemical and physical reactions began to take place inside his body. The hard, rocky armour which protected him so well was dissolved by the fermenting juices inside his shell before being absorbed into the body. Then the minerals were transported to the muscles in the bloodstream where they helped to build them up from being as flimsy as paper to as strong a Druddigon’s head.

Although Vanillite was now faster than before, Asharas managed to sneak her attack in first. A fireball erupted from the cloud of concealment, engulfing most of the arena and causing both trainers and some members of the audience to cover their faces. The flames subsided and some automatic sprinklers in the roof were used to stop the pillars from being burnt to cinders. The battlefield seemed a mess: Vanillite had been hit hard and was struggling to form his next attack Shuckle was staring into the fog bemusedly; the fog seemed to show no signs of anything and parts of the arena had caught fire. This battle seemed to be heating up.

The Ice-type wasn’t too keen on all this fire and decided to get her opponent to chill out a little. A crackling ball of cold, white energy formed in front of him before being unleashed into the fog. Not sure of where his target was hiding, Vanillite sliced through the cloud with the beam – knowing that he’d hit Gami eventually. Then, her target leapt from the smoke, her claws shining like polished iron. She used her wings to glide over the Vanillite, dodging the attack, and landed in front of Shuckle – she swiped at him with her deadly talons. They pierced the rocky armour and made bug howl with pain; he had just remembered the disadvantage to boosting his attack by weakening his defence. The ice-type swung around to hit Gami with an icy blast but the Druddigon was already on her way back into the swirling mist of smoke.

Shuckle was enraged by his pain and wanted to take it out on someone. His trainer told him to use Stone Edge on Asharas so he went about it viciously. A couple of blue rings encircled him as he focused. Slowly, several white orbs formed in the air around him and gradually became things that could be recognised as rocks. When he was ready he pointed the rocks sharp edges into the cloud, normally only the rocks would be fired but Shuckle had decided that he wanted to go too. So he charged into his opponents hiding place, hoping desperately that he’d hit his opponent. The audience held their breath, desperate to know what was happening. Then they saw Asharas roll out of the cloud with a couple of the pointed stones in his arm; he stood up again quickly and stumbled back into his cloud, but it could be seen that he was badly hurt. Meanwhile, Shuckle crawled out of the cloud, looking quite pleased with himself.
