Sand continued to sweep around the forest clearing at what would be the beginning of the ninth round. Cayci was sick and tired of the sand getting in her way but knew that there was little she could do about it; in the meantime, she would just have to try and beat her opponent in submission so she could finish off Lyssa. The electric spider opened her mouth wide and gave a terrifying screech, which made both trainers clamp their hands over their ears. Meanwhile, Cronos felt his defences weaken as he trembled. His offensive and defensive powers had both been compromised; he had to act fast.

The little brown hippo stamped his foot on the ground again, causing more rocks to come to the surface. This time, however, they flew through the air rather than sliding across the ground. Cayci watched them as they sailed through the air; they would certainly sting a little if they hit – she had to do something. The four-legged spider leapt to the left as rocks smashed into the ground she had been standing on. Cronos looked at the pile of stones, annoyance obvious from his face. He wanted to stop this Galvantula but she seemed to be too fast to hit; also, he was getting quite tired now.

Cayci didn’t stop when she dodged the attack; she charged straight at the Hippopotas who fired it instead. As she ran, or scuttled, towards the sand hippo, her deadly fangs began to glow dark green. Cronos watched while trying to hold his nerve; he had a plan to avoid this attack. The arachnid hurried towards him but just as she was about to bite into his earthy hide, he took a step to the right, avoiding the attack. However, the Galvantula wasn’t that easily fooled; she had seen what her target was planning and planned ahead so that she wouldn’t get caught out. She tore past the hippo and continued to run to the nearest tree, which she could climb to a certain height before leaping off and catching her prey. The illuminated teeth sunk into the Hippopotas’ back making him cry out. Cayci leached away a little of his health and felt a lttle renewed after the hunt. Things were going well for her so far.

However, she was now so close to Cronos that him missing again was almost impossible. A lethal venom welled up in his throat and he spun around to face his assailant. A toxic, purple substance was ejected from his mouth and splashed onto the electric-type spider’s head. She screamed in shock and stumbled back a few paces; the poison was already seeping into her blood – soon she would be completely at its mercy. She snarled at Cronos – why did he have to make this so difficult?
