Cain didn’t want his opponent messing around with power-ups and status conditions; as far as he was concerned, this battle would be fought as a proper smash-up. To bring this about, he’s need to annoy the Gloom as much as he possibly could. Thinking about what he could do to annoy him most, he remembered his awful stench. He shouted at the smelly plant, insulting him based on his odour as well as his poor battling skills. Gloom’s blood began to boil as the torrent of abuse intensified. He was horrified that such things were being said to him by a fellow battler – it was time to teach him a lesson.

The flower-topped pokémon began to sing. It echoed inside the enclosed space in which the battle was taking place. Cain clamped his hands over his ears but the sound still came through, shaking his mind badly. He was beginning to regret winding his opponent up so much.

And his pain was only going to get worse. Gloom sang louder and louder until the torture was almost unbearable. Cain fell to his knees on the ledge and was beating his head against the wood of the tree, willing it all to just stop. Eventually, the toxic flower pokémon did stop, her throat having gone incredibly dry. The echo began to fade away and Cain’s sanity was restored to what it had been before. He looked at Gloom with red-rimmed eyes; he wanted to cause her some pain.

He dropped down from his platform to the root studded floor and began to dig, trying to find as much dirt as he could. Once he had a small pile, he spat in it and coated his hand in the mixture, secretly giggling at the underhand trick that he was about to pull off. He leapt back up to his platform before lunging at Gloom with his sullied hand. The grass-type didn’t have time to react before the bull dog slapped him across the face, getting dirt in her eyes. He cursed loudly; the slap had barely hurt at all, but the mud in his eyes was going to cause him a lot of trouble for the rest of the battle. This fight was only making him more and more angry as it went on.
