When I was younger, I was always told
I can be whatever I wanted, and on this idea I was sold.
A doctor, a lawyer, an artist, a vet.
Or even a missionary, to help those that I met.
Never once did I think of the path I am now set.

But it's not a career where I get paid
but a position in it and I would consider my life made.
It’s not a teacher, it’s not President,
but such a duty would be god-sent.
It is toward this job, my mind is bent.

It is a laid-back occupation
that’s frowned up in some parts of the nation,
but that doesn’t keep me from wishing
that I had back what I’ve been missing;
the flirting, the kissing.

One day, I’ll whisk you away to a different land;
I’ll take you away from this town, please understand.
Never to return,
and from our hardships we shall learn,
where for each other we shall not have to yearn.

Your wife, m’dear,
I want to be it.
And I only wish for you to see it.

I’ll care for you when you’re sick,
and if you fall I’ll catch you quick.
I’ll always be here for you
no matter what you do;
just call and I’ll come to.

Just take my hand in marriage
and I’ll readily say ‘I do’.

‘til death do us part,
but I’ll always know from the start
