Dredd told me that it's a fresh start-sans points and items. If we somehow are strong enough to keep all our points and items, they'll carry over to Johto. The Pokemon themselves, however, are gone. Dredd didn't confirm it, but the best they can be represented by is being Boxed permenantly unless very certian conditions are met. As for continued Kanto adventuring, that's pretty out of the question, personally.
As for the exact nature of the rivals?
