If you're worried about the strength of your pokemon, have a go at the rental tournament, you get to choose between 6. Also, before that, you have to choose either left, middle, or right. From what I understand. the left gives you offensive pokemon to choose from, the right gives defensive, and the middle gives a mixed team. However, if you participate in the Driftveil tournament, it shouldn't be too bad as its meant for beginners, however each of these options gives one BP upon completion, so you'll have to go through a few times.
