The POKEMON Gene!
This has nothing to do with Pokemon, but it's interesting none the less.
Researchers found a new gene that may help the treatment of cancer. These researchers called this gene POKEMON, which stands for POK Erythroid Myeloid Ontogenic factor (the last N was just thrown in there I suppose, just to finish the word nicely, POKEMON sounds better than POKEMO or POKEMOF). Of course, as we all know here, we know Pokemon as the game/anime. Unless the researchers were hiding in a cave somewhere for the past decade, I'm guessing they knew about Pokemon.
Anyways, this POKEMON gene discovery sounds very promising, if the POKEMON gene is switched off, the "network of cancer-causing genes" are disrupted, therefore, shutting down this cancer producing system. In a test the researchers did, they injected a dysfunctional form of the gene into mice, and they all quickly developed a fatal form of lymphoma (a type of cancer). In another group of mice, the researchers "knock out" the POKEMON gene, and the mice failed to develop any type of cancer.
Of course, more work needs to be done on this, they still need to develop a medicine form. It's important to note that switching off genes like the POKEMON gene could come with risks, but researchers believe it's far less toxic than standard therapy.
