Re: Misty, May or Dawn?
What the--explain how Dawn is a immature spoiled brat? That boy rival in the contest, she knows him. Maybe it's like a Drew rewrite, but without Drew. So what if in the tag team she and Ash had a fight? Misty and May had fights with him! Big deal Dawn may cry if she loses a contest, she's 10 for cripe's sake! you expect her to smile? You ask too much of a character to call them a name like that! Dawn is a pretty girl, and she has legs and knows how to ue them. Sorry, out of hand moment here! If anything comes out of Team Galactic, I say she and Ash will make a great tag team like Lois and Clark.

Re: Misty, May or Dawn?
Tough question for me seeing as I'm a fan of all three Pokemon's lead heroines.
I think that each one of them has something interesting and special about them. They also each have their faults which, by the way, is not always a bad thing. In fact, it's what makes them all the more realistic and relatable.
Misty has a fiery confidence, May is very sweet and open-minded, and Dawn is very ambitious and determined.
However, if I had to chose, I definitely say that May is my favorite of them all.
May was the first girl who I felt was on an equal level with Ash. That's not to say Misty didn't have her own important goals and wasn't a strong trainer(because she definitely was), but she always seemed to fade into the background(especially after she got Togepi) while Ash developed his skills, learned from his mistakes, and progressed towards his goal of becoming a master trainer. I always thought that was unfair when I watched the show as a kid.
May started off as a girl who didn't even like Pokemon. All she wanted to do was travel and see the world, but that all changed when she experienced raising her own. She found out she had talent and worked to improve it. She grew as a coordinator, a trainer, and a person through making mistakes, watching her friends and competitors, and taking criticism and advice. She and Ash took what they learned from each other and applied it to their own battles.
May eventually made it to the top four(second place) at the Grand Festival and found herself 3 powerful rivals as well as long road ahead of her.
I don't even want to get started on the "coordinating isn't as tough as battling" deal. Your Pokemon needs to be powerful and, at the same time, pull off beautiful and strategic combos. It's just as difficult, if not even more. Ash even struggled with it. It clearly requires just as much training seeing as May frequently trained with Ash and her little Torchic was able to evolve into a powerful Blaziken.
I'm also really getting sick of everyone bashing her and complaining about how she replaced Misty. I understand where they are coming from, I miss Misty too and would love to see her in the anime again, but I feel as though people just aren't willing to give May a chance because of that.
Misty and May are two very different kinds of girls. Neither one is better than the other. I prefer May personally but I'd never say she's "better."
May is very girlish and gentle and it's true that she can be a little flighty at times, but that does NOT make her some vain mean girl who only cares about what's on the outside.
People have said that she's a "wimpy ditz who only cares about appearances." I've already gone over contest battles, so I'll discuss the issue of appearances:
Well to begin with, Misty cares a lot about appearances as well. Not her own physical beauty, but the vibe her Pokemon sends out to others. She wants to be taken seriously. It's obvious that she cares about her psyduck(she never gave it up), yet she often treated it differently(as if it were an embarrassment to her team) because of it's looks and dopey behavior. She also refused to give Caterpie a chance until it evolved into a beautiful Butterfree. Not only that but she made it quite apparent that she belives that outward looks can be just as important as what's inside in "Pokemon Fashion Flash."
Now I do NOT blame Misty for all of this. She's a normal preteen girl and these qualities make her a realistic one. They're part of the reason Misty is one of my favorite characters.
My point is, just because Misty doesn't care about a her hair or her clothes as much as May and Dawn doesn't mean she's better person nor does it mean she isn't guilty of putting appearances before more important things(such as other people's feelings).
May is my favorite character and she has been replaced, yet you don't see me jumping on the "anti-Dawn" bandwagon. I decided to give her a chance and now I'm really enjoying her adventures. She's had more development than both Misty and May already and she's taken on an even bigger role in the story.
So my advice is give them all a fair chance, each one has something great about them!

Re: Misty, May or Dawn?
GO. MISTY!!!!!!!!!!,Although Misty is the leader of the Cerulean Gym in the games, she left the Gym to her three older sisters prior to traveling with Ash in the animated series. She first came across Ash when she accidentally fished him and his Pikachu out of a river while fishing for water Pokémon. Soon after this incident, Ash "borrowed" her bike, attempting to flee from a flock of wild Spearow. The bike was later charred to a crisp by a Thundershock from Pikachu.[2] She told him she wouldn't leave him alone until he replaced the bike. However, this plot point later became moot, as Misty actually forgot why she started traveling with him in the first place.
HOENN& OTHERZZ........
After retrieving her bike at the end of the Johto League Silver Conference, she returns to Cerulean Gym and resumes her duties as the Gym Leader while her sisters leave for a cruise around the world. As such, she is not featured as a main part of the Advanced Generation series and only appears in five episodes and in The Mastermind of Mirage Pokémon, a 10th Anniversary special episode event. However, she is often a central character in the Shūkan Pokémon Hōsōkyoku, and Pokémon Chronicles. In one of her few appearances in the Advanced Generation series, her Togepi evolves into Togetic. Misty releases Togetic after it chooses to stay behind to defend the Mirage Kingdom. After Ash finishes competing in the Hoenn League, he returns home to Pallet Town to find Misty waiting for him. However, she isn't the only one to rejoin Ash, as May, Max, and Brock join him as well for the Battle Frontier challenges. She remains in his team for three episodes, and shortly after returns to her gym.
HER PERSONALITY IS a slight inferiority complex, especially due to the fact that her three sisters Daisy, Lily, and Violet do not think much of her, claiming that there are only three Sensational Sisters (the name under which they perform synchronized swimming) and one "runt". This complex diminishes over time as Misty grows much closer to Daisy (the most motherly and girly of the sisters). They are the ones who usually take care of the issues related to the Cerulean Gym, although it was Misty who battled Ash when he was battling for his Cascade Badge there.
In the early episodes, Misty is depicted as having a wicked temper, spoiled attitude, stubborn temperament, and little patience. As the series progresses, however, she gradually shows herself to be kind and sensible. She reins in Brock when he becomes enamored with cute girls, often pulling him away by the ear. She has a slight rivalry with Ash in some episodes. She is also terrified of Bug-type Pokémon and dislikes carrots and peppers.
Misty aims to be a world-class Water-type Pokémon trainer despite her sisters' ridicule. Her well-trained Pokémon reflect her aspiration. She admires the Ice-type trainer Lorelei.[3] She is a good friend of Sakura, a young girl who also has older sisters who treat her like a child.[4]
When a Pokémon egg that Ash had been carrying in his backpack hatches, Togepi is born. Since Togepi had already chosen her as its "mother", Misty ended up keeping it, even though Ash had won the Pokémon in a mini-tournament involving him, Misty, Brock, and Meowth.[5] She takes on a motherly role to Togepi, being virtually inseparable from it until its evolution. After it evolved, she released it into the Mirage Kingdom to protect other Togepi.

That's a very, er, interesting reason to like her better xD
Anyway, Misty is my favourite character by far. I just think it was great how she loved Pokemon from the start, she's a great trainer and when she fights with Ash it was entertaining and cute, not annoying like when the others do it.
To be honest, when I first heard about May joining Ash, I wasn't too fussed, but half way through the first episode of Advanced, I decided I didn't like her at all. Coupled with the fact that she replaced Misty (as well as the whole Advanceshipping frenzy, ugh), that kind of stopped me from ever liking her, though I was starting to get used to her by the time she was kicked off the show ^^;
I've probably only seen about 10 DP episodes, but I kind of like Dawn so far. She reminds me of Misty in some ways =] But Misty's still number 1. I've kind of lost interest in the show lately, but if they ever bring her back, I'll be getting up early to watch it again.

Re: Misty, May or Dawn?
Misty, because she's got a tough and determined attitude and isn't half bad with her Pokemon. I think she made some good, non-sappy contributions to plot with her relation to the Cerulean gym.
I can't even tell the difference between May and Dawn sometimes. Perky little children who can't control their own Pokemon too well. Bleh.

Re: Misty, May or Dawn?
If I had to choose one, I'd say Misty for already-stated reasons. I don't mind May or Dawn, though, but I'm not a fan of contests.

Re: Misty, May or Dawn?
thats easy. misty was and still is the very best! She is the strongest, she isn't a cry baby, can stand up for herself, and could probably beat ash in a gym battle if she really wanted to.

Re: Misty, May or Dawn?
Misty competley rocks! I love her pokemon, attitude, apperance, outlook on life, everything!
May was interesting. She was nice and had cool Pokemon, but she never really appealed to me. Plus, her brother was a moron.
Dawn, I am not sure. She might pull through, but the way she fusses with her hair can be really annoying.
GO MISTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Misty, May or Dawn?
@ Geofrrey's Darkness:
Totally agree with you, Misty was the best. Best thing about her was that she had loads of different moods, like angry, romantic, proud, caring and loving. Also the creators created her from a pre-existing character and gave her a new image. May and Dawn were new characters and had no pre-set image.
She also was so much tougher than the others. And really determined to. May really annoys me, for a reason. Dawn seems ok, she's no.2. Probably a more girly version of Misty. Misty was a bit of a tomboy, but that's what's nice about her.

Re: Misty, May or Dawn?
I, personally, hate May. Absolutely hate her.
But I like Misty the best. I've got to know her more than any other character (apart from Ash, or Brock).

I loved misty. She was the greatest.
I never really got into the whole "May" thing. May seems like some sort of filler character, and it never seemed like she even talked.
Dawn is just a ******' pain in the arse hole.
I hope someday they bring misty back for at least 1 season.

Re: Misty, May or Dawn?
Now that I've had more of a chance to think about it, Misty is pretty cool. When May came in I seemed to like her more, but I realized that was because Misty was left in the shadows.
She didn't get much of a chance to prove herself in battle. And when she got Togepi, she seemed to be left behind much more than she used to. She helped me learn to like water types, and when I saw the Pokemon Chronicles episode, Gyarados became one of my favourite pokemon. Gyarados is probably my favourite pokemon of hers so far, although I like Psyduck too. Now I can't wait to see her in D/P!
May, on the other hand, was enjoyable too. I really liked her Blaziken, and it was disappointing to see her leave a few episodes after. I was kind of annoyed at how she got Squirtle and Bulbasaur and didn't get Charmander. Charmander's my favourite pokemon! I'll be excited to see her return too, and hope that her Eevee evolved!
Dawn is quite likable at the moment. She's got some nice pokemon, and I've grown a liking to her. The only annoying thing about her is her Piplup's voice. It sounds like it's filled with helium...
I don't have anything against either, and I guess I like them all the same.
