Do you even like Pokémon anymore?
Well, the title of the thread pretty much explains it all, Do you still like Pokémon?
I ask this because after being inlove with the franchise for many years, I've slowly but surely drifted away from it. There was once a time when I could name all if not most Pokémon in Numerical order, and I know for a fact I cannot do that now. When the 1st generation came out, it was all so very new and exciting to me, however now each generation, they seem to have clones of Poké's from the 1st Generation.
I still enjoy playing the games ofcourse, infact that's pretty much what keeps me interested in it, I've not seen the anime pretty much since Battle Frontier...
So, do you still like Pokémon?

Re: Do you even like Pokémon anymore?
Well yeah... I'm posting in a pokemon forum so of course. I understand about not liking the anime, I just watch ths films. It was alot better when it first started. At school pokemon was everywere, people in hudles trading cards people having a tournament... I even liked the TV series! But then I was younger and everything seemed more magical.

I still enjoy playing Pokemon, not for fun, but for competitive purposes.

Re: Do you even like Pokémon anymore?
Back then:
Characters: Yes
Games: Yes
Anime: Yes
Movies: Yes
Cards: Yes
And now:
Characters: Yes
Games: Some
Anime: No
Movies: No
Cards: No
To me, I still like Pokemon, even at the age of 27. I got into it ten years ago back when I was 17, so to me, its pretty nostalgic. The games look so many times better than they did ten years ago, when the sprites weren't even colored and looked nothing like they do in the anime. Meanwhile, the first season of the Pokemon anime was something special. The episodes actually had different storylines, there was plenty of action, and the originality was still alive and well. Come season 4 & 5, the same formula became an annoying broken record, and I just stopped watching and caring after that. Meanwhile, the movies were very hit or miss. The early ones always had good parts and decent qualities to them, but the later ones were like tossing dice. But, when I stopped caring about the anime, I stopped caring about the movies. There was a time when the movies were the only times you could find an original plotline in the episode. After that, I couldn't tell the difference.
Meanwhile, there are some Pokemon that I think are great, and there are some that make me wonder why they were ever created. I think anyone that's a fan of the series will agree that every new generation, you'll find Pokemon that you really like, and you'll find ones you think are ridiculous. In the end, I still think it would be a shame if the entire series died off, especially considering there's so much that Nintendo could do with Pokemon that they simply choose not to do. The pattern of recycling needs to die though. Some will agree with me and some won't, but I found the game Pokemon XD to be new and something interesting, but it just feels like they didn't build on it enough, and it was over too quickly. Meanwhile, I think Nintendo needs to take a step back and start gearing the series to be more for teens rather than just kids 100% of the time.

Re: Do you even like Pokémon anymore?
Yup, still do. Like Neo said, there are plenty of Pokemon that are rather stupid/pointless, but there are still those each and every new generation that I fall in love with. Although, at the age of (almost) 20, I certainly think they should do more with it. Like Neo said, it needs to stop being for kids 100% of the time. I'm not saying it has to go mature (in fact, I really hope it doesn't), but I think it could at least be more complex than it is as far as storyline and such goes. I'm mainly talking about the games here - the anime's a different story. I stopped watching around halfway through the Johto series, and just started getting back into it around the end of the tag battle tournament in the DP series, and the only thing I really enjoy about it are the battles, which still confound me at times (there's so much more they could/should DO with them!), and also Ash's Pikachu... I love the little rodent to death but he needs to stop getting deleveled and then uber-powered. It's too inconsistent. Then again... it is just for kids. Which goes back to how it shouldn't be 100% for kids all the time.
Oh well. I enjoy the games mainly, never really got into the cards. The gameplay changes they've made each generation have been nice - the special split and held items in the 2nd gen, abilities in the 3rd gen, and then the physical/special split in the 4th gen have all now made it fairly complex gameplay-wise. I enjoy playing the games, but yeah, they could do so much more. I'm still hoping. I'm an optimist at heart XD

Re: Do you even like Pokémon anymore?
Yeah, I do. However, it does seem to me that I've lost a small amount of interest (I don't play the games as much as I used to). However, I'm still big into it (mostly the games, but I still watch the anim, although I don't usually watch some of the old episodes (i.e.: the Hoenn Region saga, the Kanto Battle Frontier saga, and the non-new DP saga episodes)). Occasionally I come across a Johto/Kanto Episode and watch it for nostalgia purposes. In fact, before HG/SS becames accessible to me, I started playing Gold again (again, for nostalgia purposes). Interestingly, I like some of the Johto music remakes that are in FR/LG better than some of the Johto music remakes in HG/SS (for example: Six Island/Seven Island/Violet City/Olivine City and Four Island/Five Island/Azaela Town/Blackthorn City).

Re: Do you even like Pokémon anymore?
Quite honestly, I'm not really engaged in Pokemon anymore. That may change when Heart Gold comes out, but I kind of doubt it. The only thing that keeps me attached to Pokemon is this board, the URPG, and the crazy RPs that I'm in sometimes. :P

That's pretty much how I'm feeling at the moment. I really like The Gold/Silver/Crystal games, so I'm hoping these will restore my faith in the franchise, but you never know..

Re: Do you even like Pokémon anymore?
Not really.
Obviously i'm still here so it's not like i hate the stuff. But gotta say i've STiLL never even played RSE or DPP, not to mention any other games that came out after Crystal. I will watch the cartoon some mornings when nothing's on and enjoy it, but it ends there.
Fun memories, that's all.

Re: Do you even like Pokémon anymore?
In my personal opinion, the animated series now sucks Slowpoke tail.
I enjoyed the first season when they lurked within the Kanto region,
and Johto was alright although I didn't enjoy it as much as the previous...
But now, it seems to be the same thing in every single episode with
forever changing characters. I miss the original roles and voice cast.
I've officially stopped watching the series due to it making me want to
weep in bitter misary. However, I still love the games and comics.
Also, I still watch the older episodes on DVD. So, I s'pose to some
extent, I do still like PoKeMoN. I'm just not crazy on the newer things.

Re: Do you even like Pokémon anymore?
The only Pokémon-related stuff I do anymore is this board and Super Smash. And I'm beginning to become less active here because outside life has kept me busy. I've had a lot of down time so I've been able to come back. Every time I do, memories of Pokémon come back.
It's actually quite sad. I never thought I would lose interest, but naturally, it just happened. I still draw them, but it's not the same. This board isn't the same.
A full 3D RPG for the Wii would change this. :p

Battle Dimensions is actually pretty good, if you like mindless comedy.
I told myself when I was little that I will always like pokemon, so yeah I still play the games and watch the anime.

Same here Nero.
I still like Pokemon, but I'm slowly starting to dislike it. I havn't played any of the games in a couple months, I sold my DS & Pokemon Platinum, and the Anime is just embarassing. The only thing i like mostly right now is the Movies and the release of HG/SS. I'll always love Pokemon, but lately, it's been the "same old song and dance".
