Lightbulb Interactive Adventures Discussion

Greetings all!

So I've been having a lot of fun writing my Interactive Adventure and then I realized that we have a lot of talented writers here on the forum.

Wouldn't it be great if there were multiple adventures going on at the same time?

Readers will be able to participate in the stories and help drive them forward. We wouldn't have to deal with writer's block and it will be fun exercise in creativity on both ends.

Plus, if we get enough people on board, we can even have our own section.

Anyone interested in doing their own Interactive Adventures? Doesn't have to be like mine. Any setting, any story, any genre, etc.

Hum. It's a neat idea; I might give it a whirl. Might be fun.

If so, I think there should be an entirely separate thread for interactive adventures, to keep them apart from the novel fan-fics.

Yeah. If we get enough adventures going, I'm heavily inclined to move toward it having its own section.

I'll briefly overview Interactive Adventures.

Interactive Adventure narrating is fairly simple and you're open to how you want to run it.

In general, you create a character and allow people to suggest actions that this character may take. These actions will range from the serious to the silly. As narrator, you have the option of choosing none, some, or all of these suggestions and implementing them in the adventure. You choose whichever actions will best go along with the adventure in terms of the story, genre, and mood.

The story can have an overarching plot that you're guiding the members along or it can be completely freeform. It can range from horror to science fiction to fantasy to real life to anything in terms of genre. You can even have multiple main characters and simply switch viewpoints from time to time.

I've also seen adventures in which it was updated through art rather than writing. The narrator would put up a single panel showing the character and setting. Then the narrator would draw another panel based on one or two suggestions by members, sort of like an Interactive Adventure Comic. Since I'm not artist, I've decided to stick with words for the adventure I'm running.

That's the basics of Interactive Adventures.

I think I can write one of these. Seems to be a fun idea. I remember there being a TV show like this a long time ago....

I'm all for this. What's the recommended length for each post/x-amount of time in the story?

Edit: If someone links me to one already done, I'd be happy to start mine soonish.

I think it was Boomtown. That show was freaking awesome, I don't know why it was ended so quickly.

I was actually thinking about doing this, but with Bioshock instead of Pokemon.

You can write as much or as little as you want. Different people have different styles.

I don't know of many "complete ones" but the one that inspired me is finished. It's based on World of Warcraft:

http://www.broadbandreports.com/foru...-In-Razor-Hill

The site it's usually on is down, but this has parts of it.

An example of a visual version rather than a written one.

For now, the Fan Fiction section:

Might want to put [IA] before the title so people know. I'll do that with mine.

Harry I'm so sleepy. I blame you.

Anyways, like I said on AIM, I'll put some thought into this. I still need to do the practice for the art version of it like you showed me, but yeah. I hope this idea becomes big. It's a neat turn on the fanfiction franchise and who knows, it may even get this place a heck of a lot more attention.

One question: Do you HAVE to take every suggestion?
What if someone doesn't take it seriously and wants you to do something very random? :\
What about the suggesting two or three paths to go down sort of framing?

..It's just, I am a control freak, I like to keep it going a certain way :D

You can use all, some, or none of the suggestions. It's entirely up to you (though if you never take a suggestion, it's more a fan fiction than an interactive adventure).

Some people will be strict with their options (giving a few choices) while others are more open ended. Ultimately it's up to you how you want to run yours.

Just out of curiosity, ARE you going to post a separate IA thread? And if so, will it be Pokemon exclusive?
