After the disappointment of last round, Cain was determined to cause Happiny to feel some pain in the near future but first he had to get rid of the substitute which protected her. Since Happiny had got her leg caught in the mud, Cain was able to get a hit on her guardian before she did anything to him. A ball of black energy formed between his stubby arms – it grew until he could barely keep a hold on it. Then he fired it. It blasted through the fog and hit its target in the chest/face, which caused it to tumble over backwards. It slowly climbed back to its feet, now missing an arm.

Happiny was not bothered by this, however, as she was too busy preparing her next move. After having freed herself from the mud she took on a strange white aura. Suddenly everything became a lot heavier and a lot slower. The battlers and their trainers began to sink slightly into the mud due to the greater force of gravity. What was Paperfairy planning?

For the next action, Cain had been ordered to protect himself from whatever Happiny did to attack him. Concentrating hard, he gathered energy and used to build a barrier, which covered him like a dome. He was now covered from all angles. He confidently looked out at his adversary knowing that nothing she did could touch him now.

However, Happiny didn’t seem interested in attacking him at all. Once she had seen the shield go up she knew that any attempt to attack Cain would be useless and so she went with a different order, to raise her own stats. She began to run around as fast as she could – not very fast when you consider her short legs, the mud and the increased gravity. As she ran, or perhaps toddled would be a better word, a red aura began to envelop her. Her heart began to pump more blood to her muscles and brain; this would heighten all forms of attack power she had at her disposal, although they still didn’t amount to very much. Cain let down his shield, glad that he had avoided being poisoned but a little annoyed that his opponent was now stronger than before. Nevertheless, he was determined that the hunt was only just beginning.

Okay...
Use reflect, unless she tries to afflict you with a status condition, then use protect.

For the second use Work Up, unless she tries to afflict you with a status condition, then use detect.

Reflect/Protect~Work Up/Detect

EDIT: KantoBreeder. I though something was weird. Happiny had 56 Energy, but in your first ref on this battle it was raised to 80.

I messed up on those attacks.
Strike the protect and detect cause that can't be done.

It should be then.
Reflect~Work Up

Editing and/or changing your attacks isn't allowed - what should occur here is that both Protect and Detect are used, but fail, and energy is deducted as a penalty. It's up to the ref if they want to do this or not, although if Dino is allowed to redo moves, then I'm formally requesting that ability...

The increased gravity had got Happiny stuck for a little while so Cain immediately set about creating a defensive wall for himself. He opened his toothy mouth to reveal a ball of shimmering energy that had started to grow within; it grew gradually but quick enough to be ready long before Happiny was free of the mud. The Snubbull tilted his head back and a beam of the shiny energy rocketed skywards before cascading down around the pink dog. Cain watched his opponent through the reflective dome until he realised that during the time he had taken to make his shield he had been caught in the mud as well.

By no means had Happiny wasted her time struggling against the mud. While she freed herself she created a venomous substance in her stomach brought it up to her mouth so that she could spit it at her adversary as soon as she could aim properly. Although the concoction was bitter ad stung her mouth, she managed to hold it until her leg was finally able to move – she turned to face Cain’s shield, which sparkled through the fog, and launched the gooey toxins straight at where Cain should have been. The poison hit Cain in the back and seeped through his skin into the bloodstream; he screamed and tried to wipe it off of him because of the irritation it caused him but he only managed to spread the itch to his hands. The strong poisons coursed through his body – for now they were reasonably weak but they would get stronger as time went on until the pain became unbearable.

Since her opponent was stuck in the mud for a while, Happiny decided to go straight on with her own action. Her body began to glow a sickly pink and emanate small, yet deadly, love hearts – deadly because they had the power to scramble their target’s mind so that he believed that he was in love with the user. For the moment, the hearts merely circled their creator, who was still glowing but didn’t produce any more of the pink terrors, while she waited for the opportune moment. The time to strike came when the target had just released himself from the muddy ground; Happiny opened her arms and hearts flew across the marsh, homing in on Cain. They passed through the reflective dome without hindrance and began to orbit the little pink dog, who watched them cautiously. Then the tornado of pink collapsed in on him and his mind became addled and confused. Looking back at his foe, he began to realise that he loved her really; he had never wanted to hurt her no matter what he thought.

However, it didn’t take him long to remember the poison that now coursed through his veins and whose fault it was – then he got angry. He began to run around on the sticky mud, very similarly to what his foe had done in the last round. A red aura soon developed around him and blood began to flow more quickly to his muscles and brain so that his attack powers would be increased. Unfortunately, increasing blood flow also meant increasing the damage the poison could do and soon Cain was writhing in agony as the toxins attacked his immune system. On the other hand, the increased gravity had now worn off the two battlers could move more freely and there was less chance of getting stuck in the ground. Although the battle seemed to be coming to a close, it was sure to be an exciting one.

Seeing that the end was in sight, Cain quickly started his next move. He closed his eyes and focused hard; as he did so, his body began to glow green. Also, a ball of similarly coloured energy formed in the dog’s hand. He began to swing this ball back and forth so that it began to ring like a bell – it also sent out waves of blue. The waves and the calming sound washed over Cain, causing his worries to be washed away – the poison that had been coursing through his veins was broken down into more benign substances while the infatuation which had threatened to stop him from attacking was lifted, allowing him to see clearly once more. He turned to face Happiny with a whole lot of fresh ideas.

Meanwhile, Happiny was resting to recover some of her lost energy. She sat down on the sticky mud and took some deep breaths; she had allowed herself to become a little discouraged before but now she knew that she just had to do her best. Her eyes were fixed on her opponent, he had gotten rid of the poison and infatuation which she had set up but she was determined that she would stop him, even if it was the last thing she did.

Unfortunately, Dino had other ideas. He pulled a poke ball from his pocket and pointed it at his Snubbull; red light hit the pokémon and engulfed it before being sucked back into the ball. Dino muttered some congratulations to his weary battler before bringing out a second ball and throwing it into the air. In a flash of bright light, a black bird appeared and fluttered down onto a convenient log, which stuck out of the mud. Coel, the Honchkrow, cawed loudly from his perch – this Happiny was no threat to him and he wasn’t going to let her think otherwise, it could barely stand after all.

Happiny did nothing. This led to an increasingly awkward standoff between the two pokémon, each glaring the other into submission; except that neither submitted. This went on for several seconds until both trainers decided that they’d had enough and that they should send out their next orders.

Start off with Taunt. Then wait till she attacks to use Payback, if taunt fails however use Double Team.
