This arena has minute landmasses about 10X10 Feet, surrounded by green salt water. In a tropical jungle with vines hanging down above the water. The water isn't very deep and is clear. Pokemon may go into the water, but be careful, geodudes can't swim. (Just don't send Gulpin into the water. Meaning if your pokemon has fire on it or clearly would be unable to swim, don't send it in the water or it will drown.)

Okay Chansey. Halt it in its tracks with a Thunder Wave, then hit it with a Charge Beam for the Sp. Atk boost!

On the tenth day of our expedition, we managed to find our way out of the dense, tangled jungle that we had previously been trying to navigate. Instead, we found ourselves on the shore of some sort of lake; when using the binoculars, one of my companions, murgle-flag, found that there was an island at the centre of the water where we could rest for a while away from the hungry predators and stinging bugs that had plagued us since we set out. The water wasn’t too deep so we were able to wade across to what was little more than a sandbar but seemed like a paradise; each of us set our bags down and lay down for a while in order to rest before continuing our long march. The water wasn’t salt so we drank some and refilled our depleted bottles.

A few hours passed and my fellow adventurers decided that they would have a quick battle before setting off again to find a shelter for the night. SLC and murgle-flag each took up a position on the banks of the island while I sat up to watch the battle between them. SLC made the first move, revealing his soft, pink Chansey as the chosen battler. Murgle-flag, after a moment of contemplation, then picked out his own warrior; a small, blue mudskipper with a large fin on its head appeared in a flash of light. The mud fish and the egg-bearing nurse watched each other carefully – they knew that the battle could swing either way and were eager to win it for their respective trainers.

Round One

SLC

[El Huevo] Chansey (F)

HP: 100%
Energy: 100%
Condition: Eager to get going
Moves: Thunder Wave ~ Charge Beam

murgle-flag

[Starla] Mudkip (F)

HP: 100%
Energy: 100%
Condition: Ready to go
Moves: Dive ~ Mud Shot

El Huevo, the egg, was ready before her opponent and so took the advantage of speed. She rubbed her smooth feet over the rough sand in order to build up a small charge of static electricity; she planned on using this to disable her water-type opponent for a little while. She ran, or at least waddled, towards Starla, scraping her feet on the sand as she went to increase the charge; reaching the target, she tapped her with one foot to allow the charge to flow between them. The electricity attacked the Mudkip’s nervous system and muscles, causing the first to malfunction and the second to seize up. Starla felt her entire body begin to cease function and looked at her rival with bewilderment – she didn’t understand what had happened but knew instinctively that it hadn’t been good.

However, the mudfish was sure that she’d soon forget all these problems if she had a swim; besides, her opponent wouldn’t be able to hit her when she was underwater. There was, unfortunately, one small problem – she couldn’t get to the water. Her limbs were still stiff from paralysis and the thunder wave was still messing with the signals passing from her brain to the rest of the body. In short, she was helpless until the charge died away.

It wasn’t as if El Huevo was about to go easy on her either; the nurse pokémon was already building up yet another charge to strike her down. A ball of electricity formed in front of the Chansey’s chest, sparking and crackling. She took careful aim at the Mudkip before unleashing the beam. Starla stood helplessly, her paralysis forcing her to stay in the path of the oncoming attack; she knew that she had to get out of the way but her stiff muscles weren’t letting her go anywhere. The attack hit its target head-on however the mudskipper didn’t feel it for a little while as the previous action’s attack was still playing around with his nervous system. The attack did cause quite a bit of damage though and even worse was that it had caused an increase in Huevo’s attack power – things certainly didn’t seem to be working in Starla’s favour today.

And they weren’t going to get much better. Murgle-flag had ordered his pokémon to use Mud Shot, which was not a move she knew how to use. Although her limbs had been freed from their paralysis, Starla didn’t know what she was supposed to do; this move was completely new to her. Taking a few guesses, she dug up sand and threw it at her opponent – unfortunately it was blown back by a slight breath of wind, causing it to fail. Starla and her trainer just had to hope that the next round would be kinder to them.

Round Two

SLC

[El Huevo] SLC (F)

HP: 100%
Energy: 89%
Condition: Confident; +1 Special Attack
Moves: Charge Beam ~ Charge Beam/Thunder Wave

murgle-flag

[Starla] Mudkip (F)

HP: 92%
Energy: 84%
Condition: Feeling humiliated; Paralysed
Moves: Toxic ~ Dig

Electricity crackled and formed a ball in front of El Huevo’s stubby arms. The yellow orb spun around, building up charge as it did; Starla watched it grow with more than a little caution – she knew that it was going to hurt. A beam of energy forced its way out of the ball and rocketed towards the Mudkip, who tried desperately to get out of the way, being held back only by her stiffened limbs. The attack hit her in the face, meaning that it caused even more damage than it normally would. The mudfish took a couple of steps back; that attack had really hurt and now her eyesight was compromised. Even worse, it had once again increased her opponent’s power. Things weren’t going her way today.

But she was determined to change things; from now on she would be in control. A thick substance with a similar consistency as that of slime formed in her throat. It was made of many different chemicals and toxins that had been produced by her body in order to make it; the result, a terrible concoction which could floor Groudon without having too much problem. Starla hobbled forward, in attempt to get closer to the opponent, before spitting the vile poison out at El Huevo. The nurse watched the purple gloop sail past her – the Mudkip had still been half-blind when she tried to attack and so had missed. SLC and his pokémon sighed with relief; they wouldn’t have to deal with that quite yet.

Electrical energy filled the Chansey’s arms once again and yet another beam was fired at Starla. The yellow energy crackled as it smashed into the Mudkip, making her scream. The attack hadn’t done as much damage as the last one had but her health was being sapped away at an alarming rate – there had to be some way to stop herself from being hit so hard all the time.

Starla began to dig through the sand, hoping that there would be a more solid material beneath; luckily, there was some soil about a foot beneath the two battlers. She hurried down into the soil to get away from her oppressor – she was sick and tired of being beaten around like a rag-doll. Little by little, a tunnel began to form and the Mudkip was able to slide into it. She would be safe now that she was hidden from the opponent, but she wouldn’t be able to attack either. Huevo watched her bury herself with some degree of annoyance; the paralysis hadn’t hindered the mudfish at all this round and now her attacks would be useless until she came back. This could be turning against her.

SLC

[El Huevo] Chansey (F)

HP: 100%
Energy: 75%
Condition: Annoyed; +2 Special Attack

murgle-flag

[Starla] Mudkip (F)

HP: 64%
Energy: 67%
Condition: Feeling a little more secure; Paralysed; Underground

Notes
Charge Beam- (Rolled 14/100, 90 or less to hit; rolled 7/10, 7 or less for stat boost; Critical Hit; Chansey -7% Energy, +1 Special Attack; Mudkip -18% HP)
Toxic- (Rolled 36/100, 75 or less to succeed; rolled 100/100, 90 or less to hit; Mudkip -6% Energy)
Charge Beam- (Rolled 7/100, 90 or less to hit; rolled 9/10, 7 or less for stat boost, re-rolled 10/10; Chansey -7% Energy; Mudkip -10% HP)
Dig- (Rolled 48/100, 75 or less to succeed; Mudkip -11% Energy, hidden underground)
I assumed that murgle-flag wanted Mudkip to stay underground. Energy usage was halved.

With her opponent nowhere to be seen, Huevo started building up her own defences. As she was a Chansey, her defences against an ordinary attack were already incredible, but she wasn’t so sure whether or not she’d be able to deal with a status attack leaching away her health or decreasing her power. She waddled over to the pile of sand and dirt that Starla had left behind in the previous round and used it to create a small doll of herself. Then, when it was complete, she laid one of her stubby arms on the model and made a channel between them so that her life could flow into it. She whimpered a little as the life left her but otherwise remained silent through the process. She removed her hand and the substitute got to its feet, ready to protect its creator.

Meanwhile, Starla was taking a little time to rest so that she could fight her hardest when she went back into the battle. She took a few deep breaths to calm herself down; everything would be all right in the end – she could still win this if she played her cards right.

Huevo was feeling a little sore after what she had just done; she needed a way to bring herself back up to her full capacity. She placed her arms on the egg contained in her pouch, causing it to start glowing. When it was almost too bright for me to look at, she raised her hands to the sky – a golden egg raised from the pouch, leaving the original as it faded back to its original pearly white. The gold egg then sank back into the Chansey, who took on its golden colour; the glow died away and Chansey was left feeling almost as strong as she had been before creating a substitute. She was beginning to get a bit tired though.

Starla, on the other hand, was feeling much more energetic than she was at the beginning of the round. She continued to rest in her secret cavern, knowing that Huevo wouldn’t find her for a little while yet. Taking a few more deep breaths, she waited for something to happen so that she could go out and bring down this opponent of hers.
