Default Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade: Pikachu Balloon Pictures!

Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade: Pikachu Balloon Pictures!
-11/23/06-

It's a rainy day at New York City, but that won't stop the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Due to weather conditions, the balloons were flying lower than usual, but the balloons did fly. That includes the new Pikachu Balloon (as seen in the pictures above). The new balloon features Pikachu chasing after a Poke Ball, and Pikachu's cheeks also light up. The new Pikachu balloon is 53.5 feet high, 36.9 feet wide, 40.8 feet long, and filled with 15,000 cubic feet of helium. This is the sixth year that the Pikachu balloon has been part of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

NBC Commentary During Pikachu Balloon
Matt Lauer: In celebration of it's 10th anniversary, Pokemon USA introduces the brand new balloon, Pikachu. The most recognized character of more than 380 in the Pokemon universe.

Meredith Vieira: Pikachu is an electric type Pokemon that can store electricity in it's cheeks. Today Pikachu's cheeks light up flying as this year's only high voltage big balloon.

Al Roker: Pikachu flies through the air just behind a Poke Ball. Most Pokemon live inside one, but Pikachu prefers life on the outside. Where he can lend a helping hand to his loyal companion, Ash, when the going gets tough.

Matt Lauer: You know only one foot four on TV, today Pikachu's electrifying. Cruising the skies at twice the height of a tyrannosaurus rex.

The parade was cool. Loved the Pikachu balloon. Too bad it rained.

Looks awesome, and the cheeks lighting up is a nice effect.

I wonder what they're doing with the first one though...

Did anyone else find it a little dangerous with the "high-voltage" balloon on a rainy, windy day? If Pikachu did get lose, he'll shock the whole city! lol

Yeah I saw that on TV. And Thanx for that. Now we have a video for it. Nice job!

I think it's the only good one there. The others are too short. And now people who didn't get to see, can see it.

You could tell the announcers weren't Pokemon fans. In fact, you can tell if anyone's not a real Pokemon fan... when they pronounce it "Pokey-mon". I hate that... Can't they see that little whatcha-call-it on the 'E'??

Yeah. I only watch the Macy's parade just to get a look at the World's biggest Pikachu. That the only reason I would watch it. I was planning to watch my recordings but then I remember about the parade and the new Pikachu balloon and decided to watch it. I heard about the light up cheeks and I had to see it to believe it. very nice.

Yeah. Those guys rarely know what they are talking about. They just read what is given to them.

Pokemon should be in more parades. the pikachu ballon was cool. they should have raffled it. whoever wins it puts it on their streetpost or a stop sign or a light post
