Default Grader Wages: 8/25 - 10/4

*turns to look at you*

Oh, hey! I didn't see you there! Welcome once again to the grader wages thread, where all your hopes and dreams can come true. Well, most of them. Some of them. A few, at least. Or maybe just one. Point is, I needed a corny-as-heck intro for my post. Congratulations on reading it just now. You can't un-read it.

And I apologize for taking so long with these. I haven't been feeling so hot the past few days. It was some kinda lame sickness involving headaches and laziness, with admittedly more emphasis on the latter, hence the apology part.

Anyway, get your crud and get out, unless you've a question 'r something for me. In which case, put your crud on the ground and get up against the wall. There's a new level of protocol for this kinda thing.

Ataro: $48,900
$17,000 Complex – Future (for lack of a better title)
$13,000 Complex – The Crystal Coliseum
$6,400 Basic – Monsters of the Machine
$5,500 Moderate – Forever Seedot
$5,000 Moderate – Road For Champions: Chapter 2
$2,000 Basic – Singing the Blues

DarkGardevoir: $4,400
$2,200 Basic – The Super Short Story of My Life as a Trainer
$2,000 Basic – Seaking a Fish Here's a pro tip: try grading a story that doesn't bore you to death. Might have to read it in more than one sitting, but such sacrifices are sometimes necessary. We're talking about the greater good, here. THE GREATER GOOD.

Elrond: $36,500
$15,000 Complex – Chasing Rotom
$15, 000 Complex – Into the SS Anne
$6,500 Moderate – Battle in the Razor Wastes Nice job in experimenting with an alternate grading format; shows you’re putting some extra thought into how good reviews should be done. I do find it a bit worrying, however, that you mentioned Exposition being more or less equivalent to Introduction; if you delve too far into that analogy, then you will no doubt find yourself becoming rather inflexible about what comprises a “good introduction.” Not every introduction is meant to provide the reader with very much exposition. Sure, you can argue that exposition MUST be involved in some form or another, but to say that would be a bit misleading, because exposition may be found throughout a story, not just at the beginning, especially if you have something like a dynamic setting. Furthermore, the “setting” is a highly tentative term, and for the purposes of the introduction, may in fact be completely barren and empty, having been intentionally left out for whatever reasons. But I'm glad you're thinking about these things as a Grader, and if you’d like to discuss it in greater detail, then I’d be more than happy to oblige. Always lookin’ for a chance to have a ‘writing epiphany,’ if that’s not too lame to say.

Fever: $6,500
$6,500 Moderate – Get Fancy!

Khajmer: $2,400
$2,400 Basic – The Struggling Scientist; Chapter Two

Nyurgh: $3,000
$3,000 Basic – Bailed!

Phantom Kat: $13,500
$6,000 Moderate – Empty Shell Curious thing about this story. Writer said it was 20k in length, but I noticed it was actually only about 13k, which is quite a difference, considering what the intended capture was. Anyway, you get pay for 13k’s worth of story, unless I’m just completely missing something here.
$5,500 Moderate – Breeze
$2,000 Basic – The Balloon Also, a special, random note for you: I haven’t forgotten about grading your story. I swear I’ll get it done. GALLEON KEEPS HIS PROMISES. EVENTUALLY.

Scourge of Amaranth: $18,500
$13,000 Complex – Haunting Dreams
$5,500 Moderate – The Runaways’ Battle Cool it with the overkill on smaller stories, especially for newer writers. I know you wanna be thorough, but annihilating every category with a wall of analysis will not likely help fledgling writers, which should be your foremost goal. For those kindsa stories, focus your critique around a central idea or purpose, the single most important thing you want the reader to take away from your review. AND DON’T MAKE ME YELL.

Sec: $27,900
$6,500 Moderate – The Search for the Serpent
$5,000 Moderate – Fly High to the Sky
$4,600 Basic – Sacrifice
$2,600 Basic – Mirror, Mirror: Chapter Two
$2,600 Basic – Pokemon Special! U-R-P-G![Current Chapter: VS Larvitar!]
$2,400 Basic – Sea Breeze
$2,200 Basic – The Tale of Twinleaf’s Totodile’s
$2,000 Basic – ChangeTales – Story 1 Overall, you’re doing okay, but you need to gain a better understanding of what a “comma splice” is, if you don’t know already. In fact, reviewing all of the major comma rules would likely help you quite a bit. I noticed that you often tell the writer to not include a comma in a certain place, despite the fact that – in those cases – the commas were optional, so watch out for that. Also, be careful not to confuse a ‘mistake’ with something that you just personally don’t like about a story. As you gain more experience, try to keep in mind that story writing in general is actually quite flexible.

Sequentio: $21,800
$7,500 Moderate – Rampage
$2,400 Basic – Saving the Day
$2,400 Basic – The Fruit Vampires
$2,200 Basic – One Foul Pooch
$2,000 Basic – His Magnificent Antlers
$2,000 Basic – I’m On a Boat.
$2,000 Basic – Out Of the Woods
$800 Weak – In Search of a Legend
$500 Weak – Magic Karpet Your bit in the grammar section about not needing a comma as long as you use the conjunction word “and” is incorrect. Please, make sure you actually understand how to use commas before you start telling other people how to use them. As a matter of fact, I think you should do a bit of research concerning grammar in general. I’ll cut you some slack, since you’re still a new grader, but please put a little more effort into improving. I'll be expecting more from you as time goes on.

Starkipraggy: $2,200
$2,200 Basic – Fight hard for mushroom!

The Jr Trainer: $2,000
$2,000 Basic – Magikarp Caught! :D|Glub Glub

Tyranitar_Trainer: $10,900
$6,500 Moderate – Nidorangler
$2,200 Basic – Mirror, Mirror: Chapter One
$2,200 Basic – An Innocent Game of Frisbee

Hope that helped, 'cuz for some reason, this month was kind of a pain in the ass. Sure, I made things harder on myself than they needed to be, but you appreciate the effort at least, right? RIGHT? GET OUTTA HERE.

Thanks for your hard work, George, and more thanks for your concern. However, I have to ask you: with little time on my hands, and very bad timing, how do you think I can even attempt to claim a story, let alone grade it. Sure, I'd do that eventually, but before I can do it, the hungry sharks of the story boards come and leave me just with the bones.

I'm just doing my civic duty here- I admit I'm not doing it spectacularly well, but I don't have many chances to tbh.

Yeah, sometimes it's difficult, I know. One strategy, though, is to try to work out an agreement with the author beforehand. Something like, "Hey, mind if I grade your story? It might take me more time than other graders, but I promise to make it an awesome grade." And claim it if the author agrees, of course.

Then again, you shouldn't feel obligated to grade things all the time, either. If you don't think you have the time to give a story the kind of feedback that you think it deserves, then maybe you should just let someone else have it, eh?

*first of all, claims money*

Secondly, thanks for the advice. I'll definitely take it into account in the future. Thankfully, I'll have some time to think about it since there seems to be a bit of a lull in writing at the moment. :)

Claiming wages.

I will be sure to review grammar rules more in depth so I can give a better grade in the future. I also hope my grades have improved from the first to the last, but I expect much more from myself in the future.

Thanks George.

*Claims moneiz.* Thanks a bunch, George. Heh, I wasn't expecting this much, so yay. Though really...couldn't you have either added 100 or taken away 400 so I have even money? *Shot for being a picky ass.* XD Ah well, money is money. Thanks again, and hopefully you're feeling better. /facepalm at the fact I failed to see that the story wasn't long enough
