Default Mt. Deckbi

-Credits to Feng

"A towering, active volcano that sports many cave systems. The volcano is a dark red-brown color and has a wide trail that spirals up it. The area around the volcano is bare of plant life and covered with gray boulders and rocks. The air is usually full of dark gray ash once you get about halfway up. Ranger Outpost Number Four is located here."

NBP:
Buzz looked around the small office, looking at the desk he saw the little name tag on the desk - "Boss-Sama" - Buzz chuckled. Boss-Sama reappeared from the door with a file in his arm.

"Well, Buzz, your report is rather disturbing, but you did a great job healing that Zapdos," the Boss said. "I've had some other reports from a couple of other rangers that sightings have been made over at Mount Deckbi. I want you to go round and see what you can find. From what I gather James and Ivy want to go round as well so you might as well escort them"

"Really? Ivy is ok, but James can be such a little girl sometimes," Buzz mocked.

"I know, I know," Boss-Sama laughed. Buzz got up and headed out of the office and walked down to the staff room looking for Ivy and James. He popped his head in and glanced around the padded chairs to no avail. Buzz's mind wandered to one possibility, but immediately wrote that off with a burst of laughter.

"Hey what are you laughing at? What did you do," a female voice said behind Buzz.

"Hi, Ivy. What did I do today? Nothing," Buzz said inconspicuously. He glanced over at the notice board which still featured the photocopied letter Buzz had found in her desk. James was actually looking and laughing at the sheet as he looked. James turned and laughed at Buzz, his eyes widened quickly as he spotted Ivy behind Buzz.

"You're up to something, and when I find out-," Ivy said.

"Oh you will what?" Buzz said derisively, "Anyway Boss-Sama has asked me to take you and the other girl over there round Mt. Deckbi, apparantly you wanted to go. Chainy, get your ass over here!"

I chuckled at the letter pinned to the noticeboard. No one had yet managed to determine who the author was, but we all knew who it was addressed to and what it was. It was a love letter to Ivy Frost from an anonymous source, which Buzz had managed to photocopy. As far as we knew, Ivy hadn't yet cottoned on to the fact that the letter was proudly on display for all to see. Hell, I checked it out every time I walked past.

I heard Buzz's own chuckle from across the room, and I knew that he would be looking at me. I sighed. Despite being an Elite Ranger, I was still the butt-monkey of the Park Staff, prone to being joked about, laughed at, and having pranks played on me. Most of them by Buzz and Leo, but still.

The chuckling continued. Perhaps he was laughing about the love letter, and not about me. My mind grimaced - of course he was laughing at me, but I could at least pretend I didn't know that. I looked around and shot Buzz a grin. The grin soon dissipated, though; Ivy Frost herself was walking up behind Buzz, and he had no idea. My eyes widened - Buzz was pretty good at covering himself, but a pissed-off Ivy was no match for anybody.

Ivy put her hands on her hips and began to say something to Buzz. I couldn't hear it over the quiet murmur of people working, but I could see Buzz reply and then turn back to look at me.

"Chainy, get your ass over here!" he called to me.

I sighed as I walked over. No respect.

"Whaddaya want, Buzz?" I asked him, trying to sound terse.

"Got orders from the Boss. Taking Ivy here on a run and you're going to come with," he said.

"But I got a metric ass-ton of paperwork, and the new Preen game just came out," I protested.

"Well that's too damn bad, isn't it?" Buzz replied smugly. "You've got fifteen minutes to put your make-up on and meet us outside the gates to Deckbi."

"Awwwww, Deckbi?" I whined. "Really? It's super hot right now."

"Too bad, Boss' orders," Buzz said with a tone of finality as he turned around and walked to get his stuff. I rolled my eyes at Ivy.

"What, don't you want to go on a run with me?" she asked, grinning evilly.

There were few secrets amongst the Park Staff. Everyone was pretty well known. EVERYONE knew of my woman-based antics, but they also knew of my chiroptophobia, or fear of bats. Ivy was certainly a nice package, but one of her partner Pokemon was a Crobat, which immediately presented certain problems. It also didn't help that Ivy wasn't at all like my usual targets - strong, confident and wielding authority as opposed to meek secretaries or shy Trainers overcome by my confidence.

"It's not that," I muttered.

"Then what is it?" she inquired, tilting her head to the side, keeping her hands on her hips.

Rather than answer, I fled to the male locker rooms, where she couldn't give chase. It was fairly common knowledge that Ivy wasn't particularly looking for a relationship, but she enjoyed needling and teasing us sometimes. My default reaction to this treatment was to run - probably a bad move in retrospect, as I was pretty sure Ivy enjoyed seeing me run.

I quickly dressed in my usual casual attire, not my Ranger uniform. I made sure to wear heat-resistant clothing, specifically cream-coloured shorts and a yellow shirt. I kept my thick black boots on though - I didn't trust the treacherous terrain around the Deckbi Ranges. I also kept my Aura Reader - it often came in handy, and provided all kinds of technological advantages to me. One thing I did leave behind was my handgun. The higher-ups barely tolerated it when I was acting in an official Ranger capacity - no way they'd let me go through the Park as a Trainer with it. Besides, I wouldn't need it - despite being a butthole, Buzz was a competent Ranger, and I trusted him to do his job.

Once I was done, I summoned Dual with a brief flick of my mind. He quickly appeared in a flash of blue light. The Gallade was panting slightly - I'd probably caught him right in the middle of his training exercises.

Alright buddy, we're heading off to Deckbi for a run, I said through our mind link.

<Deckbi? Really? But it's so hot there,> he complained.

Dude, tell me about it, I thought wryly, that's exactly what I said.

Dual grumbled, but reached out and placed a hand on my shoulder. The world turned blue and distorted, and I felt a yank inside my abdomen as we teleported away.

TP#1

The Boss had mentioned to her that there had been some poacher sightings on Deckbi lately. She believed it; there were some strange things going on at the mountain, like when she and a Trainer named Axel saw that Groudon was awake and the volcano was a little more active.

Even if not, she had wanted to go see some of the new Pokémon that had started appearing in the Park for some time. She also liked just hanging out with her fellow Rangers. Since she didn't spend a lot of time on the Mainland, they were her only friends, and even though she did like her solitude and the peace and quiet sometimes, it was good to interact once in a while.

Apparently, the Boss wanted them to go check the mountain out now. That was fine with her. Buzz and Chainy were good company. Most of the time.

Buzz told them to hurry and meet them on the mountain after some snarky comments and then stalked off. Chainy whined a little about going to Deckbi, and then rolled his eyes at Buzz when the man departed.

“What, don't you want to go on a run with me?” she asked, grinning. She liked to rile him up a little once in a while.

“It's not that,” he muttered, and when she tried to ask him what it was, he escaped off to the locker rooms in a dash.

Ivy watched him go and then sighed, a slight frown on her face. While it was fun to see him squirm sometimes, lately it had started to bother her a little. It was cool to have fun and not be boring, but she also wanted them to be friends that could rely on each other. She wanted that for all the Rangers so they could be the true team they were. She tried to be nice, sticking up for them and making sure nothing was wrong.

At first she just thought it was because they were new and needed to get used to each other. It had been a while though, so now she just thought that maybe she was doing something wrong.

She had half a mind to ask Dual, his Gallade, about it, but then thought it'd be too much a breech of privacy. It was hard because she thought of Rangers like Buzz and Chainy some of her closest friends, so she wanted them to like her. She had thought at one time Haxbat had been a problem, but he acted a little strange even when the Crobat wasn't around. Maybe she intimidated him or maybe she was just going about something the wrong way. Soemtimes she wondered if she'd ever know.

Ivy trailed back to her office, mindlessly collecting her things for the run. She double checked the pockets in her red canvas vest, brushing it back so the ends trailed near the floor like they were supposed to. She pulled her red wavy hair out of the hood on her black turtleneck and looked around the room one more time, letter her troubles fester in the back of her mind.

“Do not worry. Everything will be fine.” A voice in the back of her mind spoke up, and she turned towards the desk to smile at Haji, her Espeon. She forgot to block her thoughts. She didn't like to trouble him, since sometimes he couldn't help but pick them up, but she was glad he cared enough to comment.

The Psychic cat-like Pokémon jumped off her chair (one of his favorite perches, she found) to come sit in front of her, waiting patiently. The purple creature was a very new addition to her team, and she was doing her best to make him be as comfortable as possible. He didn't ever say much to her. At first she thought it was because everything was new. The pressure on her mind that signalled a psychic connection was more like an awkward Mamoswine in the room than a comfoting presence. He seemed a little more used to things now, so she secretly feared that he didn't really like her.

She made sure to lock that thought up tight so he couldn't get it.

Shaking her head, she smiled at the Espeon again. “Okay, ready to go?”

Haji nodded and the air shimmered around them. The pulling sensation only lasted for a few moments before the looming ashy mountain stood before them. The air wasn't as clean here, but it was nice to be outside all the same. She shook herself off, still not really used to the teleporting. Haji was unaffected, and he stayed quietly by her side while she adjusted.

She saw Buzz, River Tam, Chainy, and Dual up ahead, waiting for her. She was sure they'd have some smart alecky comment about her being a woman and taking too long. The thought was almost enough to make her smile.

Then she remembered she wasn't, and she turned her head for a second while she tried to wipe the frown away. A smile took its place when she turned back, and she made sure to lock up her thoughts tightly as she motioned for the Espeon to follow her over to the group.

She would try to have fun today and not cause any problems, even if she had to fake some of it.

NBP:
Once Buzz had informed the pair that they were all gong on a trip, Buzz headed back to his office. He quickly collected his ranger supplies, grabbed a collection of Pokémon. River burst forth from her ball as he clipped it to his belt.

"Oh goody, a whole day of James' whining about the heat, at least Ivy is nice," River said. Buzz laughed at this as he took a quick look at their signed paper documents. It looked like Ivy was bringing along an Espeon. It was common for Rangers to uses Psychic pokémon as allies. Trainers although the only way we get paid, they weren't always the greatest company. So focused on the upcoming Pokémon, not always great conversationalists.

Yeah I know, but Boss' orders, and trust you to like Ivy, she's sneaky, now teleport us to Mount Deckbi, so we can get this run done. The quicker we get to the end of Chainy's whining the better.

In a flash of pink light Buzz and River were teleported into the sweltering heat of the mountain. A bright morning sun glared high in the sky. Chainy was already there but Ivy was yet to arrive. "Haha, typical woman three hours just to get stuff ready. I wonder how she is going to get here, I see she got herself a new psychic type, such a copycat."

Moments later Ivy arrived, and Buzz was right in assuming that Ivy would be using Espeon to teleport. "Well now that she's here lets get going. Apparantly there have been some sightings of Poachers around here, and I am fairly certain they could be linked with the situation I witnessed when I was escorting Jathan around the park. You both remember what was going on with the power surges. River told you it was a hurt Zapdos. It was quite blatently a bullet hole."

Buzz continued to explain the situation from exactly what happened at the plant to what Boss-Sama said. He concluded by simply walking off, waiting for the pair to catch up.

The trio along with their respective partner Pokémon wandered up the rocky path. Buzz knew the path to Mount Deckbi like the back of his hand having visited several times. Looking around the common hideouts he had encountered Pokémon before, Buzz saw little activity. At the base of the mountain he saw an eruption of flames. A smile crept across his face and he burst into a run to see what the commotion was. Looking over the edge of a small dip in the pathway, Buzz saw a flaming horse release a great torrent of fire at a small candle like Pokémon.

Looking back at his friends, "I guess this is the part where I ask you if you want to battle these two?"

OOC: You just completely invalidated my Voice Disk -.-

~~~~~
Soon after we arrived, an orb of pink light exploded into existence. It opened up in a strange un-curling kind of way, somewhat reminiscent of the death animation of Pacman. Just like I was expecting, it was Buzz and River Tam. Buzz stepped calmly out of the air, and River swooped around a few times before landing on Buzz's shoulder. I could feel Dual send quick telepathic greeting to River, and I also felt her return it - Psychic Pokemon often communicated through quick "pings" of thought as opposed to long trails of conversation. When I had tried to explain it to one of the new Rangers, I compared it to the way computers communicated, through quick bursts of thought as opposed to long streams. I wasn't particularly proficient at this kind of communication, but I was the best Ranger I knew of at it, considering I'd been bonded with Dual longer than any of the other Rangers had been with their respective Psychic-types.
"Haha, typical woman. Three hours just to get stuff ready," Buzz laughed. "I wonder how she is going to get here. I heard she got herself a new Psychic-type, such a copycat."
"Well, they certainly help out a lot," I replied, shooting a quick look at Dual, who was cracking his neck.
Buzz grunted and waved me off. I thought we were going to have to endure an uncomfortable silence, but Ivy chose that moment to appear. Unlike Dual's blue-burst-style Teleport, and River's pink-orb-style, Espeon's teleport reminded me of the heat waves that rise off of cement roads on really hot days. The waves started small, but then grew until they were twice a person's size. After about ten seconds of watching the almost-invisible waves dance, Ivy casually stepped out of them, using her arm to push them aside like she would a curtain. Her Espeon was at her side, following her calmly. Again, I felt Dual ping him and receive a quick response. This greeting was different to the one with River, though. Dual's eyes narrowed curiously, but he didn't say anything.
"Well, now that she's here, lets get going. Apparently there have been some sightings of poachers around here, and I am fairly certain they could be linked with the situation I witnessed when I was escorting Jathan around the Park. You both remember what was going on with the power surges. River told you it was a hurt Zapdos. It was quite blatantly a bullet hole."
The corner of my mouth automatically curled downwards at the thought. I had actually seen it - Dual had been on that expedition with Jathan, and even though he hadn't been out of his Poke Ball at the time he'd reviewed Jathan's memories and shared them with me later. I agreed with Buzz - it was definitely a bullet hole.
Buzz filled us in on the exact details as we began to walk towards Mt Deckbi, the largest mountain in the Deckbi Ranges. I noticed that Dual was watching Ivy and Espeon carefully, but made nothing of it. He was probably just curious about Espeon - despite his serious demeanor, he was actually quiet curious, and even affectionate and protective when the time was right. I quite clearly remembered the time he had fried Buzz's computer when the bastard had distributed a picture of me from when I was young. I shuddered as I remembered the header line: "Subject: Wow, Chainy really IS full of crap."
It was only early yet, so the heat wasn't particularly unbearable. It was just a tad warmer than I liked it to be. I followed Buzz quietly, just enjoying the walk. Ever since being promoted to Elite Ranger, I hadn't had much time to just get out and enjoy myself. I was still a little confused as to why I was here at all - maybe Boss-sama wanted a high-ranking Ranger present in case Buzz did come across some poachers.
After a few minutes of relative silence - each Ranger was probably communicating with their own Pokemon or something - I suddenly heard the roar of sudden fire expansion, and saw a huge flame rear up at the base of the mountain. Buzz broke into a run to see what it was, and I followed suit. We soon found out - a Rapidash was breathing huge streams of fire at a small Litwick.
<Why do you think the four-legs is trying to burn the Ghost-type?> Dual asked me, sounding somewhat confused.
I'd researched them - being Ghost-typed, I wasn't sure why they were found here in the Deckbi Ranges as opposed to in Meteor Valley, so I had done some research on them. To my knowledge, excluding aquatic Pokemon, the only other Ghost-type found outside Meteor Valley was Rotom, and that made sense taking into consideration its ability to change Formes. Perhaps the Litwick just really liked the heat.
Well, one ability that Litwick can have is Flash Fire, I mused through our mental connection, so maybe this is some form of training.
Dual nodded. If there was one thing that made sense to him, it was training.
"I guess this is the part where I ask you if you want to battle these two?" Buzz said, breaking the silence. The two Pokemon heard this, and stopped their mock battle to look over at us. The Rapidash cantered a little closer, moving towards me. It snorted, and then reared into the air, challenging me.
I wasn't particularly impressed. It was true I had come here looking for a Ponyta, but that was so Jathan could try raising and breeding them. Ponyta were one of the easier Fire-types to get along with. This Rapidash certainly didn't look like a particularly tame one. In addition to this, I preferred to raise my own Pokemon, and this Rapidash looked almost full-grown. I shot Ivy a look of jealousy - Litwick were very popular Pokemon back on the mainland - they evolved into the immensely powerful Chandelure. They were one of the Pokemon I had come here looking for, but I was pleased to just witness the little Candle Pokemon.
I decided that I could quite happily move on without the Rapidash, but if Ivy wanted to try and capture the Litwick I'd help her out by taking on the Rapidash, and if it got into capture range I might as well toss a ball at it. I held my hand over Smash's Pokeball - if Ivy wanted to battle, he'd be the Pokemon I would choose. Neither Dual nor Joey's secondary type of Fighting would be advantageous against the Litwick's Ghost type.
(OOC: Female Litwick please :3)
TP#2
“Well, now that she's here, let's get going,” Buzz said. She normally would comment on his sarcastic tone, but she let it slide for now. He continued to remind them about the poacher sightings and what had happened to Zapdos on one of his previous run. She nodded to herself as he spoke. If there were poachers here, they needed to be found and stopped. Nobody abused Pokémon in her Park.
She hadn't seen the wound, but everyone had said it was like a bullet hole. The people they were dealing with were probably dangerous, so she was glad they had the three of them. She was fairly confident they could handle anything. It also helped that Chainy was an Elite Ranger if anything did go down. It was always messy when they had to deal with outside authorities, even though Rangers were technically a type of law enforcement too. The regular police didn't always understand.
Buzzer led the way and the two other Rangers followed, Ivy still lost in her thoughts. Now they had been added to though, and instead of just a dreary dark cloud there were patches of storms and churning water. At least now there were other problems she could actually do something about. If there were poachers here, they were going to find them.
The two followed Buzz up the trail, Ivy following behind Chainy as she thought. She kept noticing Dual glancing at her and Haji, though she had no idea what for, and if Haji knew, he wasn't saying. She wasn't sure how friendly the two Psychic Pokémon were with each other yet. Haji wasn't with her constantly, and he was free to wander around the Park if he wished. He never talked about it if he did go though, so she had no idea what he got up to.
Deckbi was nice, but Ivy couldn't deny that she knew the area too well for things to be new and exciting. Most of her last runs had been here, so she had gotten her fill of dust and rocks and ashes. Then, there was a whirling explosion of sound, and a huge flame appeared over the next hill in the path, closer to the base of the mountain.
The other two darted off, and Ivy wasted no time in following them. Over the crest, a flaming cream colored horse was shooting streams of fire at a small candle-like Pokémon. She recognized the first as a Rapidash – a Trainer named Monbrey had caught one on one of her previous runs. The other Pokémon was a Litwick, a Fire and Ghost type just recently discovered. In fact, it was the first new Pokémon she had seen in the Park. They were all the rage on the mainland for what the evolved into. They were a real powerhouse and had access to a wide variety of moves. It would probably be a useful Pokémon to have with her in the Park for runs, and she could always use another Pokémon on her team.
“I guess this is the part where I ask you if you want to battle these two,” Buzz said.
He drew the attention of the two wild Pokémon, and they stopped their battle (or training, maybe) to look at them. The Rapidash took more of an interest in Chainy, and Ivy saw the candle move closer to her. She got a better look at it, and she supposed it was cute. It cried out at that moment, like it could hear her thoughts, though she was pretty sure it couldn't. She noticed the Litwick was a girl, and she had a drippy hair-like top that covered one of her yellow eyes. The rest of her looked like a fluffly marshmellow topped with a blue flame that changed in shade.
The more she saw it, the more she liked it, but she didn't really want to inconvenience anyone. She took a look over at Chainy and saw that he didn't look too impressed at the display the horse was showing. She remembered faintly that his brother Jathan was a breeder, so maybe he was looking for the unevolved form, Ponyta. He shot her a look, and he looked a little jealous. She frowned and bit her lip when he looked away. She couldn't help what the wild Pokémon did, and it furthered her theory that she was doing something wrong with him.
She sighed. Sometimes she couldn't win.
Chainy still looked ready to battle. His hand was resting on a Pokébal at his hip. That was a little reassuring. At least if he battled, she wouldn't have to worry about taking on two Pokémon at once. It had been a long time since she last battled, but she was confident in her Pokémon. She just didn't which one to use.
Her reflex was to send out Haxbat. He was fast and could easily take most hits the ghost type was able to dish out. Her hand just hovered over the pocket his Pokéball was in though. She wasn't sure. Her Ambipom could do very little to Litwick. She hadn't had a lot of time to learn new moves with him, and the skills he did know wouldn't be very effective. She would send Haji, but one of his weaknesses were to ghost types, and she didn't want to risk him. Also, she wasn't sure how well they would actually battle. If he didn't really like her that well, this could go badly. Chainy didn't like her Crobat though, so it put her in a hard place. Today wasn't going so well so far. She didn't want to make it worse, but she didn't want to put her partners at risk either.
“I will battle,”a soft voice said in her mind.
Her eyes snapped downwards to the left, and Haji was right there next to her, looking up at her. He must've picked up some of her thoughts. She tended to forget to block them when she was bombarded by many things at once. She didn't know if he picked up all of it, but she hoped not. She couldn't read his curious eyes, so she had no idea what he was thinking either. His end of the bond was silent, though she didn't know if that was just a failure of her being able to read and understand it or if he just wasn't projecting anything.
She smiled at him, communicating through the psychic link. “You don't have to. Ghosts can damage you more, and I don't want you hurt.” She sighed out loud. “It's not Haxbat's fault, and I'm not going to ignore him even if Chainy doesn't like him...”
Haji just rubbed against her leg lightly as he padded forward, his split tail swishing and his purple coat shining from the sunlight. “You are being silly. Everything will be fine. A ghost would not be a bad choice for our group.”
It seemed he was completely ignoring her previous concerns about his health. He approached the ghost calmly, like he did everything, and though Ivy was a little worried, she was inwardly beaming that he had said 'our'.
She set her shoulders and started focusing on the battle then, pushing all other thoughts aside. She was going to have to really pay attention to avoid Haji getting hurt. She hadn't had a lot of time to train with him yet, so she wasn't completely comfortable with giving him orders when she didn't really know what he could do. She liked to give her partners a little free rein anyway, so it would probably be fine. He may not have many extra moves taught to him, but she knew that what he already learned was impressive. He was nowhere near incapable.
There were actually a lot of things they could do if she thought about it. Haji was a good team player, and they could help out Chainy if he decided to battle. Espeon aslo had an interesting ability called Synchronize that could cause the same status effect to be copied to an enemy when inflicted. Since fire Pokémon were noted for being able to burn others, this could be useful. Then again, a lot of fire types had the ability to power up using fire, so they would have to be careful and take note of which one the Litwick had. Though she looked small and harmless, Ivy didn't doubt the wild Pokémon would put up a tough fight.
They would also have to watch the sunlight. Fire moves powered up in sun, and even though Haji knew how to manipulate the flames too, it wasn't going to help them here. It would come in handy if he needed to heal though, as the Espeon was able to convert sunlight into energy used to restore himself.
Ivy took in the surroundings as she debated what to do. She wondered what Haji thought of this, and then lamented the fact that they weren't that close. Part of the beauty of having a Psychic type was that you could plan and strategize without ever having to say a word out loud. Then again, since this was a team expedition, it was probably best to speak out loud so Chainy and Buzz knew what was going on. If she couldn't talk to Haji, she could probably forget talking to Dual or River.
The ground was littered with dust and rocks, as expected. Haji only had one attack that would be really effective against this ghost, but Shadow Ball took some time to charge up, and Litwick would be able to see that coming from a mile away, even though she only had one eye visible....
And then it hit her. Haji's psychic powers let him move objects with his mind, and if they didn't have a lot of moves that would be super effective, they would just improvise. She grinned as she started getting into the battle.
“Alright, Haji, let's not use your Shadow Ball just yet. Instead, try to stay in Litwick's blind side.” Her right eye was covered by the wax shape. “Fire types are weak to rock, so let's put some of these surroundings to good use. Keep your distance, and try to run around her on her right side. Then, when you have a clear shot, use your Psychic to kick up some of these smaller rocks towards her top. Maybe we can shrink that flame a little. Hopefully she won't catch the incoming attack in her blind spot. You can do this!” she cheered. “We'll have to be ready if Chainy needs help too.”
If all went according to plan, they would be able to get some damage on the ghost without doing anything serious. She wasn't sure if Litwick's flame indicated strength and weakness like a Charmander's did, but they were going to try to find out. Anything that made Litwick able to hit Haji less was what they were aiming for. Using smaller rocks would conserve a bit of Haji's energy too, and since he liked to keep his distance when attacking, it left him room to maneuver if the Litwick retaliated. Haji was pretty good at dodging, so she'd leave that part for him. She knew he could.
She glanced over to Chainy, wanting to keep an eye on him too. Her hand still hovered somewhere near the pocket containing Haxbat, but if she didn't need to battle both Pokémon at once, she would save him. It all depended on what Chainy did.
Her eyes swapped between the two groups, and she silently cheered Haji on in her mind.
I know you can do this.
BP:
Buzz watched as the candle and the firey horse Pokémon both approached his two trainers, He wasn't entirely sure that was the right word for his two experienced rangers. Either way it was what the Boss wanted.
Buzz was aware that the Litwick was a very saught after Pokémon. It evolved into the powerful Chandelure. It is the desire of many of the fire and ghost gym leaders especially. With a highly powerful special based attack system, it would be a bad idea to be on the recieving end of one of its Flamethrower attacks.
It looked as if Chiany wasn't particularly interested in the Rapidash and his form indicated he had a Ponyta voice disk. Ivy, on the other hand was clearly eager to battle the Litwick. Buzz, and Chainy, Buzz thought, would've done the same.
The two wild Pokémon had stopped their battle or training, he had long since given up attempting to figure out the behaviour of the wild Pokémon in the park. Often just walking directly up to trainers to be captured.
“Alright, Haji, let's not use your Shadow Ball just yet. Instead, try to stay in Litwick's blind side,” Ivy said. “Fire types are weak to rock, so let's put some of these surroundings to good use. Keep your distance, and try to run around her on her right side. Then, when you have a clear shot, use your Psychic to kick up some of these smaller rocks towards her top. Maybe we can shrink that flame a little. Hopefully she won't catch the incoming attack in her blind spot. You can do this! We'll have to be ready if Chainy needs help too."
Buzz saw Chainy sigh and release Smash, his Swampert, out into battle. He didn't look prepared to send any commands however. Maybe he wanted to see how Ivy and the opponents would approach the battle. That or he is just lazy, Buzz thought.
The Epseon began to focus its energy and in a burst of speed was soon behind the small candle like Pokémon. Small rocks began to tremble around the pink Eevelution the began to hover around the psychic type. with a sudden burst of energy they were fired at the Litwick.
The wild Pokémon didn't seem phased though, and with a sudden burst of flames an Inferno erupted around the litwick. The sheer energy of the flaming tower crumbled the rocks to pieces around the litwick. A small quantity of the rocks got through but not much damage was dealt out. Buzz was sure this was just the equivalent of two boxers smacktalking before the real battle begins. Ivy would have to be much smarter than that to do some decent damage.
Meanwhile the Rapidash had burst off in a trail of flames it begn to speed up as it circled the two opponent Pokémon. Buzz was concered the battle had only just begun, but Smash hadn't moved. The wild Pokémon appeared to have an advantage.
Maybe we can shrink that flame a little. Hopefully she won't catch the incoming attack in her blind spot. You can do this!" Ivy called out. "We'll have to be ready if Chainy needs help too."
I sighed and released Smash onto the sandy ground. Everyone treated me like I was a child, needing to be protected or a target for jokes or something. While I didn't mind it when Buzz played pranks on me or when Leo treated me like a newb, when Ivy did these things it hurt a little, for reasons I wasn't quite sure of. I decided to shrug it off and concentrate on the battle, which had started without me because I had been lost in thought.
Haji shot towards the Litwick - I was a bit surprised at Ivy making this choice. Espeon, being of the Psychic type, were weak to Ghost-typed Pokemon. In fact, the Litwick's Ghost typing was the only reason I wasn't using Dual. I was suddenly reminded of him, and craned my head to locate him - usually he kicked up a bit of a fuss when I used Pokemon other than him in battle, unless the opponent was a Flying type. At first I couldn't see him, but I eventually located him sitting on top of a large rock cluster behind us. I looked at his face in an attempt to read his emotions, and the Aura Reader on my right eye automatically zoomed in. His eyes were squinted, and he was looking quickly from Ivy to Haji and then back to Ivy again. Perhaps he was as confused at Ivy's choice as I was.
Haji reached the Litwick's blind side and started to glow purple. Small rocks started to levitate upwards and around the Espeon. I noted that none of them were larger than my fist - this was probably to save energy. Wise choice. Considering the combatants, I wouldn't be surprised if this turned out to be a stall battle.
I was partially right. The rocks suddenly oriented themselves in the direction of the Litwick, and shot off like they were fired from invisible bows. The Litwick knew how to counter this though - a sudden blaze of fire expanded outwards and upwards, completely surrounding the Candle Pokemon. The rocks plunged into the fiery depths, but I couldn't see whether the improvised attack had any effect. I was about to move and get a better look when I remembered I had my own opponent to worry about. I saw the Rapidash galloping around in circles, stretching out its muscles and increasing its speed. That didn't bother me - the Rapidash could have speed superiority if it wanted it. Smash didn't need to rely on instant reflexes - he had bulk, and lots of it.
"Smash, use Curse until that horse is ready to fight, then hit it with a Waterfall," I called.
Smash started making ominous noises under his voice, swearing and cursing at the Rapidash. The Fire-type probably couldn't hear him, but that didn't matter - it was all about getting into the right mind-set and staying there. The curses would get Smash angry, but keep him there as well. Because of his usually jolly nature, he'd use this rage constructively - it'd benefit him physically, and he wouldn't rush into anything because of his calm demeanor.
When the Rapidash had appeared to stop showing off, Smash began moving towards the horse on his solid legs, causing the ground to shake a little bit. As he got closer, a thin veil of water covered him, and it grew in size as he approached his opposed until none of his body was visibile. It looked like a freight train of rushing, frothing water was approaching the Rapidash.
(OOC: lol and I forsaw this post as short.)
TP#3
Chainy released his Swampert with a sigh, not looking too enthused. Ivy thought maybe it was from not wanting to battle, but she was more sure it was from her comment about helping him. Men. She gave her own sigh. Sometimes they got too macho for her, needing to be tough guys that didn't need any help.
The whole point of going on a team run was so that you and your partner could help each other out. Just because they were Rangers didn't mean that they should forget that. They were Trainers too. She wanted to be able to help Chainy out, and she wanted someone she could trust at her back to catch her mistakes. Even though they had a job to do out here, they were still technically acting as Trainers for the purpose of the run. She didn't want it to always have to be about the job.
She supposed Chainy could be taking it personally though. He was a big target for jokes from many of the other Rangers, and even though she tried to stick up for him, sometimes she thought that was worse than if she didn't do anything at all. She just couldn't get it right. He probably thought it made him look like he needed protecting or something, instead of letting someone have his back. She just shook her head. That's what teams were supposed to be about. It was also true that if Buzz and the others took time enough to think of insults and jokes, they probably liked him enough to expend that much effort.
She watched Haji perform his attack, keeping watchful eyes on her Pokémon in case something went wrong. A lot of the rocks he kicked up were pretty small, and as he flung them at the ghost, it simply threw up a fire wall, destroying the small stones. It was a little discouraging, but the battle was still early and there was plenty of it left. The candle was no pushover, and they were going to have to get creative to beat it.
The fire was a problem though, as it would probably protect Litwick from any of her attacks. A Shadow Ball would take a little time to charge up, and though it would be the most effective thing they could do, she didn't know if it'd make it through the flame tower fast enough for the ghost not to manuever around it. She wasn't sure if she could take it down by herself.
She snuck a look over at Chainy. He didn't look too angry, but he didn't look pleased. He kept looking at Haji, and a puzzled expression came to his face. He probably wondered why she would send the Espeon against a ghost. He had wanted to fight, so she wasn't going to deny him. She wanted to prove that he could do it. Plus, her only other real option was Haxbat, and she was trying to stay on Chainy's good side.
She needed help against this ghost. She could admit that without a problem. She wasn't sure if he'd help her, but she had to try. She turned towards him more and bit her lip for a second, debating what to say, if anything. She couldn't do it alone.
“Got my back, Chainy?” she asked, still worrying on her lip a little. As if on cue, the raging flame tower flared, and the sound it made drew her eyes back to it. “I can't take out that flame alone. Can you help me out? I'll distract Rapidash.”
Even if he didn't help her, she coudln't do much as long as the fire was there. She wouldn't risk Haji like that. She might as well help wear down the flame horse, even if Chainy didn't want it.
She watched the horse run in tight circles as its speed increased, knowing it could use its energy for an Agility move. It gave her an idea. “Haji,” she said, as he came back to her side, “see if you can use your Psych Up skill to copy Rapidash's speed increase. Then lets run a grass knot through the ground to trip it up. If we can stall it a bit, it'll make it easier for Chainy to hit.”
Haji nodded silently and began to focus on his target. He glowed a little, a dim whiteish aura that pulsed. If it all worked correctly, he would be able to use the energy from the speed increase to speed up the vines from his attack. The more of them that appeared, the better. She had seen this done a few times on other runs she had taken. If done correctly it could be very effective. Haji worked best from a distance, so running speedy vines through the ground kept him out of harms way. Extra speed woudln't hurt later once the ghost started moving either, which would hopefully let him stay ahead of both of the wild Pokémon.
While Haji was working she called out again. “In the meantime, guard yourself with Future Sight. I want you to keep yourself safe. Focus on that mostly, trying to avoid any oncoming attacks while we have to wait. I guess if you get a chance, an attack wouldn't hurt, but don't try it if you don't get an opportunity. I want you safe.”
She wished she knew was he was thinking. She had thought having a Psychic type Pokémon would make things like this easier, but she found she was strugglng just as much. They hadn't developed that bond that she was envious of people like Buzz and Chainy having with their Pokémon. They always seemed in synch with their partners, and Ivy just wondered what she was missing. She didn't know how to ask Haji about it without sounding impatient or unskilled. She didn't want to rush him.
Then, there was a prickling on her mind, and a part of it she didn't know she had opened up like the doors on the Main Outpost on a bright, sunny day. It made her gasp and blink rapidly, seeing more with her mind than her eyes, even though they were wide open. She felt a presence, and then Haji was there. She couldn't exactly explain it, but it was like a puzzlepiece that was missing that had finally been connected.
She saw the Psychic Pokémon look back at her for a second, and she could only smile. He must have heard her thoughts and answered, and it only made her beam. It was a quiet thing, but she could still feel his energy and his emotion towards the battle, so she thought that he just wasn't thinking of anything in particular in that moment. It was a strange yet interesting phenominon.
“Be wary of being overwhelmed. Sometimes there is much.”
She nodded at Haji's warning, wanting to experience every bit she could but knowing she should be careful. She supposed they would have more time to work on it later, and the thought made her grin.
She felt as Haji's energy split and changed. He hadn't finished Psych Up, but she felt him branch out to start his Future Sight too. There were whirls of color that made her head spin, followed by flashes of light and creeping dark shadows. There was just light, and a warmness filled her body from the tips of her hair down to her toes. She felt on top of the world, like nothing could ever touch her. Pure happiness that wasn't her own filled her, and she wondered if this was one of Haji's memories or an event that had yet to happen. She didn't even know if it was really Haji's feeling.
She had heard that sometimes the mental link between Trainer and Pokémon was imperfect, and sometimes things like memories leaked into each other. Since Haji had linked them before starting the Sight, she was maybe picking up things from that as well. She knew she probably wasn't getting the full force of it, but that was probably a good thing. It was a lot to take in all at once. Ivy felt Haji's energy rise and just went with it, riding the wave of power that she was sure surged through the whole area.
Then, there was pain and a gripping darkness that left her gasping, causing her to stumble back. She smacked into the larger boulder behind her, needing the brace to help her stand as she brought both hands up to hold her head. She couldn't see. There was only darkness. A horrible loneliness seeped through her bones, and she bit her lip in order to prevent her from crying out. If this was one of Haji's memories, she didn't want him to experience this ever again.
Confused, she was so confused. It didn't feel like hers, and she didn't think it was Haji's, but it was awful. It gnawed at her insides and left her feeling like she should run away, but she didn't know what she was running from. Could it be the wild Pokémon perhaps? Psychic types could sometimes pick up the feelings of those around them, and she assumed Haji was no different.
The blackness faded to just spots here and there, but she couldn't focus on anything. The feeling made her want to curl up in a ball and be sick, but she now worried that trying to break out of it would mess up what Haji was doing. He was focused. She could feel that. She couldn't jynx what he was doing, no matter how bad this was. She just had to sit though it enough for him to finish.
She could feel the ground under her feet and the stone at her back. There was so much energy in the air. She felt the heat from the flaming tower and was aware of every being on the field. She knew Dual was somewhere behind them, and River's signature was bright next to another one she knew was Buzz. Even the Litwick and Rapidash had places.
She tried to focus on the individuals instead of the intense emotions all storming around in her head while Haji executed his attack.
BP:
River, any chance of you levitating me, this battle is going to be a long one and I can't be bothered standing up, Buzz thought to his friend.
"With pleasure." Buzz thought he saw a grin creep across River's beak when suddenly he was hovering in a reclined position.
"Awesome, River, you're the best. Now if only I had a bottle of beer." Buzz relaxed as the two trainers issued their commands, but something was wrong. He was still rising into the air. "Okay, River, thats high enough, put me down."
"Whatever you say," River replied. With a thud Buzz was dropped to the floor. The burnt dust was flung into the air. A very loud expletive echoed across the rocky road.
The double battle raged on, while Buzz struggled back to his feet. He noticed Smash muttering beneath his breath as it began to Curse, a useful battle technique that bolstered the users attack and defenses. Its only drawback was that it cost the user its speed, Buzz never figured out why cursing damaged Pokémon's speed, whilst for him it had no effect.
Haji, Ivy's Espeon, mean while appeared to be focussed hard on the darting Rapidash. Buzz had heard Ivy ask it to copy the speed boost gained from agility. Buzz noticed that Haji's movements became sleeker and faster as the effect of Psych Up worked.
The Litwick appeared to be forgotten about. Buzz watched as a pale psychic orb surrounded itself and the towering inferno that entombed the Ghostly candle. Confusion crept across Buzz's mind as the orb appeared to shrink. The flames seemed to be trapped within the ball of energy. The large orb continued to shrink and enclose the Litwick until soon the flames were dancing across its wax like body. A faint red aura erupted around the wild Pokémon.
Buzz was impressed at this, it had used the Inferno wall to activate its own Flash Fire ability. She is going to have a tough battle.
Smash seemed to follow Chainy's command of Waterfall and aimed at where it thought the Rapidash would be in moments, but Haji's Grass Knot had suddenly wrapped its vines arount the horse Pokémon and it tumbled to the foor. The torrent of water missed its intended target instead continuing forth and crashing over the small candle.
Rapidash struggled to its feet it cantered over to the small candle Pokémon. They looked at each other for a moment, before facing their combatents. Suddenly Buzz was blinded by a sudden surge of flames. An enormous blast of fire was propelled by both Pokémon. Two beams of bright red plasma fused into the large attack. Both Smash and Haji had no time to react and were hit hard by the attack
"River, Protect!" Buzz yelled rapidly as the torrent of flame continued towards the three trainers. There was no messing around this time, a green bubble erupted around the three rangers and the flames ricoched off harmlessly. "Well that was close."
I was watching the shooting comet of water that was Smash when Ivy suddenly spoke up. “Got my back, Chainy?” she asked, a small quiver in her voice. “I can't take out that flame alone. Can you help me out? I'll distract Rapidash.”
I looked over to her surprised. Maybe it wasn't a weakness to rely on others for help. After all, I relied on my Pokemon in battle, so why should relying on other people be any different?
"Of course, Ivy," I replied. I reached out for Dual using our mental connection. I could tell he was still watching Ivy carefully, but also keeping an eye on Haji at the same time.
Hey buddy, can you let Smash know to change target if possible? I don't think he'd be able to hear me right now.
<I'll let him know,> Dual replied. <James... keep an eye on Ivy. Something doesn't seem right with her today.>
I frowned, concerned. What? Is it something serious? How do you know?
There was a slight pause. <...I can't really say. She just doesn't seem normal. I haven't really investigated, but there's a fair bit of mental turmoil that isn't there usually.>
I decided to let it drop. Dual sensed I would, so he threw out a line of communication to the Swampert. I'd known Gardevoir who were able to set up telepathic networks amongst whole teams, but seeing as Dual was a Gallade and therefore physically powerful as opposed to mentally powerful, he wasn't very proficient at it. What he could do well was act like a messenger, similar to the POST and ACK protocols found in systems networking. I could ask Dual to relay messages to my other Pokemon, and he would tell them what to do. It made for an effective system, and it had the added bonus of not tipping anyone else off to our strategies.
<He says he'll change target as soon as he can,> Dual broke into my thoughts. I sent back a response received packet, and turned to concentrate on the battle. I noticed that Smash's horizontal Waterfall was beginning to rotate a bit - it was almost un-noticeable - as he also turned towards the side-ways galloping Rapidash. Suddenly, five large vines ripped out of the ground and curled around the horse: one on each rear leg, two around its body, and one around its left foreleg. The vines then went taut, and with a loud braying the horse was yanked into the ground and held tight against it.
"Now!" I yelled, even though I knew Smash probably couldn't near me.
He might have, though, because at that instant the water comet shot over the horse and curved around, crashing into the towering column of fire containing the Litwick. There was a small explosion, and white steam billowed out from the point of contact. I waited, breath held in anticipation. After what seemed like forever, Smash galloped out of the mist, intending to regroup with Haji, who was further away, closer to Ivy than to the battle.
I heard the roar of a fire, and looked over to the Rapidash. Its long mane of fire had massively expanded, whipping through the air, searing through the vines holding it captive. One by one they snapped, retreating back into the ground like tendons into flesh. The horse got to its feet and galloped over to the steambank, which was gradually being taken away by a soft wind. It threw a quick look at the Litwick, which it returned. They then turned to look at Smash, who was almost next to Haji by now. Twin fireballs that were curiously human-shaped blasted towards the two Pokemon, and as they got closer they merged into one super-huge ball of flames. I knew Smash would be fine - he was very resistant to Fire attacks - but I was worried about Espeon. I knew Smash was too far away for me to get a command out, but I was kind of expecting Ivy to do something.
I waited, and waited, keeping an eye on the battlefield, ready to hear her confident voice lash out like a whip. But it didn't. The doubly-powerful Fire Blast crashed into Smash, knocking him to the side, and then passed through Haji. It didn't even stop there - it moved towards us three Rangers and River.
"River, Protect!" Buzz cried, and a green bubble of energy quickly expanded from the Xatu, surrounding us. The flames writhed around the bubble, passing by us harmlessly, but I knew it would have hurt Smash and Haji a fair bit.
When the fire had passed us, River dissipated the bubble, and I took a quick look around at the battlefield. Haji and Smash were both on the ground, stirring, recovering from the massive attack. I put my hand to my visor and activated the medical diagnostics mode. Neither of the Pokemon were too badly burnt, thank God, although it was surprising that Smash had appeared to take more damage than Haji. I mean, he was closer to the source of the blast, but still, taking into consideration his fire resistance he should have held up better.
I shook my head, saving the thought for later, when I remembered Ivy, and how she hadn't done anything. I turned to my side to see what she was doing, and when I did my heart dropped into my stomach. She was braced against a rock, sweating profusely, biting her lip like she was in pain. Her eyes were shut tight, and I could hear the slightest hint of a whimper sneaking out. I quickly moved to her and dropped to my knees, not caring about the sharp rocks scattered around pressing against my legs. I reached out and held her face, wiping her cheek with a thumb and brushing her long red hair away from her face.
"Ivy? Ivy, are you okay?" I asked desperately. "What's going on?"
I received no reply - her eyes were moving behind her eyelids but they stayed clenched shut. I started to panic a little. Ivy was in some kind of trance that I couldn't get her out of, and Smash was a sitting duck because I hadn't yet given him an attack order. I quickly cast my mind out and grabbed the first idea I thought of, anxious to return to helping Ivy.
"Smash, go hit that Rapidash with a Stone Edge!" I called before looking back to Ivy. Smash yapped in agreement, and smashed his right fist into the ground, deep into the ground - about half of his arm wasn't visible. He then pulled it back up, but now he was grasping a long, curved blade of stone that roughly followed the shape of his arm. He was holding it backwards, the way soldiers were taught to hold knives, with the blade running across his elbow. He then began to pound towards the Rapidash, using all three legs except the one holding the Stone Edge. When he got close enough, he would start hitting the horse with the dangerous weapon - it was as much a club as a sword, really.
I didn't see any of this, though. I was too busy concentrating on Ivy. I wiped some more hair out of her face, and held her against my shoulder. The small part of my mind that was always rational was telling me that it was probably something to do with Haji and/or Dual, but I couldn't care less. I hated seeing the normally strong Ivy like this. I held her against me, feeling her tremble, knowing that the only thing I could do was wait it out.
"Please snap out of this, Ivy," I begged her. "Please come back to me."
TP#4
There was fear, and she shook as tormenting images flashed through her mind. They weren't of anything solid really, just dark shadows and looming sorrow, but it wasn't pleasant, and she really hoped that Haji wasn't getting all of the same things she was. If he was distracted by this, he wasn't going to be able to concentrate on the battle and he'd get hurt. She couldn't have that. She hoped that she was taking it all.
She tried to focus on individuals, but it was just too hard. There were just too many things going on in her mind, too many feelings to sort out. They sort of overcame her in waves, and the next one came in to knock her back down before she could recover from the last.
Then she was back to the horrible confusion feeling, and she whimpered a little against her will, hating that horrible gnawing in her gut. That was the worst one she thought, that awful feeling of not knowing what to do. She bit her lip as it filtered through her. Surprisingly, after a few moments, the confusion began to fade into an intense worry, and while it was still so strong, it was more managable than being lost. She worried all the time; she could handle that.
There was a muffled sound she couldn't quite make out that echoed in her ears. Someone was near her she thought, as she felt life energy in a signature like she had before. Then there was warmth as something brushed her, and she clung to that instead of the awful conflicting feelings she was being bombarded with.
It was comforting, like how she and her brother would huddle under the covers with their flashlights during thunderstorms. She wasn't really bothered by them much, but Jack was, even though he was older. He used to say they could handle anything as long as they had each other's backs, and she believed him. She still believed him. That's why she wanted to make it work at the Park, with her teammates. She wanted to prove he was right. That was the least she could do.
She heard her name spoken in a worried tone, and suddenly she wanted to wake up, like it was urging her to do so. Her eyes snapped open as she gasped against a steady shoulder, reflexively clutching the source. It wasn't her brother, as he was long gone, but she recognized the voice speaking softly and the scent that was only Chainy. Not her brother, but one of her closest friends all the same.
“Chainy?” she said questioningly, just to be sure. Her mind was still hazy, and she could still feel Haji's thoughts swirling. She supposed this could've just been another vision.
The other Ranger tensed as she spoke, but then returned to just holding her, occasionally stroking her hair in a comforting motion, like her mother used to do. Ivy simply hung on, staring at the rocky dirt below as her mind evened out a little.
She leaned away and he let her, saying nothing. She was glad, as she wasn't sure she could handle more questions alongside her own at the moment. “What happened?” she asked, more to herself than to Chainy. Her eyes unfocused as she stared off into space for a moment, reaching through the mental link she could still feel to Haji, checking on him.
She saw the past flash of fire and the burst of pain inside of her mind, and she called out loud to her Pokémon, searching for him with her eyes. “I am alright,” he said from somewhere, and she caught sight of him not too far away, still focused mostly on the battle. She relaxed a little, seeing that he was mostly unhurt from the combined fire attack, though she noticed she was still clutching part of Chainy's shirt with her fingers in worry. She quickly let go, shooting him a grateful smile for what she couldn't say in words at the moment.
“Are you alright?” Haji asked her, and instead of the automatic response of saying she was fine, she actually thought about it.
“I think so. Were you getting any of that? Did it mess you up at all?”She hoped not.
“...A little,”he admitted. “I am still trying to see, but I am ready for another move. I have learned how to separate.”
She felt a little better that he was better at controlling all of those thoughts and feelings than she was. It was something she would have to work on if they did this more often. She stood up as she tried to refocus on the battle, having to grip Chainy's shoulder to keep herself from falling at first. It was a little hard because she was still dazed, hence stumbling a little, but otherwise she was okay. Having Chainy near was reassuring; at least she knew he had her back.
“Alright, Haji,” she said, and her voice cracked a little. “I guess we can't wait too much longer. Use Calm Mind to help you focus better. The Sight is important too, but we don't need any of that extra stuff confusing you. Then I'd like you to start charging up a Shadow Ball. You've got that extra speed energy; you should be able to get a good start on it before Litwick moves too much.”
Haji nodded as he began to focus, gathering even more energy to himself. She felt his energy shift again through the mental link as a ball of ghostly energy began to form in front of him. She could feel the different twinges twisting around, and the gray and purple ribbons weaved together into a sphere as it grew in strength.
If all went well, they could get a good hit in on the ghost while Smash went for the Rapidash. She didn't want them to team up and attack again. She didn't want her partners hurt. Hopefully Haji's Future Sight would come in handy and let him dodge another attack if it came; she knew that sometimes it took a while to come into effect. She felt her pocket with her free hand, finding her spare Parkballs there. Soon she would be able to try and capture the ghost, but not right now.
Besides, she wasn't sure if she could stand completely if she didn't have Chainy to lean on; how was she going to throw a ball?
BP:
As River's Protect dissipated, both seemed to have taken some damage from the Fire Blast, the two wild pokemon had moved away from each other, neither seemed to be doing much. Buzz assumed they were trying to judge how effective their attacks had been.
Buzz eyes returned to his two trainers, Ivy was sweating and bracing herself. Something wasn't right. Whilst Chainy had spotted this and was now on his knees.
"Ivy? Ivy, are you okay?" Chainy asked his voice quivering in fear. "What's going on?" Buzz had no idea, and raised his eyebrow as Chainy started brushing Ivy's red hair out of her face.
Buzz's mind flashed back to the first day Ivy arrived at headquaters.
---------
"Dude, check out the new chick ranger," Chainy said to Buzz, as they leant on the reception counter. Buzz glanced over.
"Eh not bad," Buzz replied, "but I bet you can't pull her. In fact I will do all your paper work for a week, if you can." Buzz burst into laughter as Chainy burst into a stammering rage. They shook hands, then Chainy stormed off to introduce himself.
---------
He can't seriously think that bet is still on, its been months and he hasn't succeeded yet, Buzz thought.
Suddenly Chainy looked away and called out to Smash to use Stone Edge. Smash stomped off after thrusting his fist into the ground. His arm, lined with stone was aimed at the galloping horse. The mudfish Pokémon raised its rocky rm to smash at the Fire type, but the fire type took this opportunity to let of a curious ball of fire. Will-o-wisp, it inflicted burns and was innacurate. But at this close range was bound to hit, right before the Stone Edge.
As the Swampert's arm crashed down, the rocks scattered and the Rapidash fell to the floor in agony. Smash stumbled as the burn seemed spread across his body.
Buzz eye's flicked back to Chainy and Ivy, they were still locked in a hug. Buzz simply rolled his eyes. "Guys, as much as this lovely romantic setting must be getting to you. You are in a battle and for god's sake get a room!"
"You do realise, you insensitive idiot, that Ivy's brain has meen under severe pressure just now. I assume it's to do with the mental connection between with the Espeon. I have heard tell that the initial connection can be turbulent," River said to Buzz. "Unfortunatly for me, ours was simple; a little mental torture might have done you good."
"Please snap out of this, Ivy," Chainy said with a whimper. "Please come back to me." Buzz could hardly contain his laughter at this, but returned to the battle and the Litwick had appeared to start making its move. It let out another stream of fire, the golden sparks of the flame danced off the beam of fire as the flamethrower approached Haji. In a remarkable burst of speed Haji moved effortlessly passed the oncoming blaze, as if he had known it was coming, Buzz watched as the Espeon kept running towards the small candle.
“I guess we can't wait too much longer. Use Calm Mind to help you focus better. The Sight is important too, but we don't need any of that extra stuff confusing you. Then I'd like you to start charging up a Shadow Ball. You've got that extra speed energy; you should be able to get a good start on it before Litwick moves too much.” Ivy finally spoke, still resting in Chainy's arms.
As the Espeon approached still running a dark ominous sphere of energy formed as it hurtled towards the Litwick. The Litwick's eyes began to glow soon beams of black energy formed into the shape of a giant evil looking eye. The eye released multiple rings of blue energy at Espeon, who had just released the Shadow Ball.
The two attacks passed each other and connected with their given target. The super effective attacks seemed to do great damage to both Pokémon, but the candle like Pokémon appeared to come off worse. Buzz thought the Litwick was just about ready to catch, while Rapidash appeared to still have some fight in it. Typical Chainy, always lagging behind.
The Rapidash had struggled back to its feet just as Haji had released its Shadow Ball attack. It didn't seem to be moving much though, energy seemed to be eminating around it. Suddenly an enormous beam of bright light was fired towards the Swampert. SolarBeam a very powerful grass type move, energy obtained from the sun itself. It didn't look like it had reached full charge, but for a Swampert it still would lead to trouble.
TP#5
Ivy breathed a sigh of relief as Haji dodged a streaming flamethrower from Litwick as he got closer to the ghost. He breezed by easily, like he knew it was coming, so she thought maybe his Sight had come through for him. He then launched his Shadow Ball, but Litwick took that opportunity to hit Haji with her own ghost type attack. Both of them were struck hard, and Haji collapsed to the ground for a moment as he was hit. She flinched along with him, reaching out with her mind to see if he was okay.
“Do not worry,” he spoke, easing her worries a little. “I will be fine.”
She trusted him, so she thought hard as he backed up towards her so they could regroup and plan. Ivy took a few steps as Chainy rose up, staggering a little as she removed her hand from bracing against his shoulder. He automatically grabbed her arm to steady her, and she shot him a greatful look. Her head was still a little hazy. She figured it would be a little bit before she snapped out of whatever this was.
Then she heard Buzz's words and shot him a dirty look, or at least made it look as evil as she could in her current state. She muttered to Chainy while her voice cracked a little, “Remind me to kill him later.” Then, she cleared her throat and tried for a smirk. “Shut your face, Buzz. You're just jealous.”
Chainy often took whatever bait Buzz laid for him, and she didn't need them all to fight. She was pretty sure Buzz was teasing most of the time, but she had to admit that if it was her, she would be pretty hard pressed to ignore it too. Still, Chainy had really helped when she wasn't doing so well. Buzz didn't need to pick fun at that. Though she wasn't sure if he knew what had gone on. She supposed it did look different from the other side of the field.
She turned her attention back to the field as Smash neared the Rapidash with his stone club. All looked well until a flaming orb formed in front of the fire horse. At that close range, it hit the Swampert and shattered like ashes against him. He flinched but still followed through with his attack, sending the Rapidash sprawling as he cried out. Smash stumbled backward, wincing as he revealed his burn. It was going to affect his movement and his strength, which wasn't any good.
Even as she thought it, she watched the Rapidash start to get up. A bright light gathered around his horn, aiming right for the Swampert. She thought that Chainy would probably call out for his Pokémon to protect himself, but with the burn, she wasn't sure if he would make it in time. Then, Ivy got an idea. She wasn't sure it would work either, but she might as well try.
“Haji, that Rapidash is going to do some damage if we don't help. Be careful, but try to get close to Smash and use your Heal Bell technique. Get rid of that burn.” She pulled out a Parkball from one of her vest pockets, rotating it slowly in her hand. “After that, if you can, try to hold Litwick still with your Psychic. I'm going to try to catch her now. It might not be necessary, but if she's moving around I'm not sure I can throw right. Putting a little pressure on her might weaken her a little more too.”
She hoped Smash would be okay. She was sure Chainy would think of something. Haji was in the line of fire too once he got close enough to use Heal Bell. He had only used it a few times before, but the white bell-like orb that formed wasn't very loud. Haji could hear it just fine, but he had to be pretty close to help out someone else. If all went well, he'd be okay enough to try and steady the Litwick. It was fine if he didn't, as she was feeling a little better and was pretty sure she could get the Parkball somewhere in the correct range, but it would help. It would also keep the Espeon out of the ghost's immediate range. She didn't want him to take another attack like before.
As Haji began to get closer to Smash, she readied her ball. As soon as the Heal Bell started to work or fail, she would throw it. If she captured, at least she could get out of Chainy's way so he could battle the Rapidash better without having to worry about another wild Pokémon.
