Abuse in the beginning? *SPOILER ALER*
*SPOILER ALER*
When you start out in the game, you open a big gift box, larger than you, to get your first Pokemon. Now, why would it be so big if there was just a Pokeball in there? Exactly, the Pokemon is in there, alive, and not in its Pokeball. It is sitting in there without any holes for air or water or food.
Is that horrible or what?

There are three Pokeballs in there. That, and when you actually open the box they are there in their Pokeballs.

The box isn't even bigger than you, it's about the same size as a microwave box, it justs looks bigger because depth perception is kind of hard with 2D sprites.
Which raises a more important question: Why do you need such a big box for 3 Pokeballs? I think they'd be able to fit in a T-shirt box.

I'd also like to point out that stuffing three creatures in a box isn't that much worse from stuffing three creatures in a ball. Yes, I know about Pokeball technology. I kid.

That smiley actually made me laugh out loud.
Anyway, the Pokeball is designed to support the Pokemon and doesn't just scrunch them in there. I brought this up because it is ridiculous how large the box is and how small the balls are (let's try to keep this PG rated)

i think that the pokeball technology lets the pokemon have room and is not scrunched up. But, they are not fair because maybe the pokemon don't like being stuck in a pokeball.
