Default [IA] Pokemon 1: Interactive Adventure

The Pokemon 1: Interactive Adventure follows your exploits as you struggle to survive in the familiar, yet twisted Pokemon world.

Do you have what it takes to discover the hidden mysteries and overcome the horrors that stand in your path? The choice is yours.

This Choose Your Own Adventure relies on player involvement. You must suggest actions or the game cannot continue. Actions can range from "Check Mailbox" to "Contemplate how Pokemon fit in Pokeballs".

I will update the game based upon your suggestions.

--------------------------------------------------------

And with a satisfying sigh, you turn off your Nintendo DS after just finishing Pokémon White in 13 hours. How exhilarating!

You take a moment to stretch, basking in the emotion of your victory, then twist to your right where you left the unopened Pokémon Black case.

It’s late and you’re tired after playing White nonstop, but whatever. At the very least you could choose your starter in Black and play it later.

You finally manage defeat the plastic wrapping and open the case. With great ease, you replace the White cartridge with its Black counterpart. The DS hums to life and you select the top game from the menu (you left Pokémon Emerald in the Advanced slot).

Text slowly scrolls across the screen.

“Welcome to the world of Pokémon!”

Huh, isn’t this where Professor Juniper shows up? Yet all you see is this white text on a black background. Strange. Maybe it was the same way in Pokémon White. You kind of rushed through the intro to start playing and you are very tired. Maybe you misremember.

Misremember, that’s a funny word.

“Are you a boy? Or a girl?”

> Go get some coffee while you wait for your DS to restart.

You stand up from the kitchen chair, avoiding banging your head on the lone lamp hanging above the kitchen table. You've prepared for your Pokemon marathon by brewing pot after pot of coffee over the last few hours.

You walk over to the counter and check. Ah yes, there is still some left. You pour the liquid gold into your mug and then swill it down in one gulp. It is cold and bitter, but you like it that way. Reminds you why you're alive.

(You've gained 1 energy point! Your energy is now 3/10!)

With deft skill, you press the power button with your left thumb. Huh, the game doesn't seem to be turning off. That's strange. The white text remains.

“Are you a boy? Or a girl?”

You played a boy in White so let's change it up and play a girl this time.

> Turn on video camera to record oneself playing.

It's really hard to play Pokemon with your video camera, which was made sometime circa 1993. It's really bulky and doesn't record sound half the time. Plus, it's just plain difficult to play the game with one hand and hold the camera in the other.

But you're resolved. You're going to hold that camera and hold that camera good. Who cares if your grandmother said you'd never amount to anything in life, you're a professional camera holder.

The camera is now held.

> You played a boy in White so let's change it up and play a girl this time.

Playing the boy was fun, especially because he looked like a preppy hippie. Never thought you'd use those two words together at the same time.

But perhaps it would be good to play as your own gender. The girl sure has foofy hair! It's massive! And foofy!

You select girl.

"I'd like to know your name," says the text. "Please tell me."

The white text continues now that you've made your choice.

"So your name’s Ainslee. What an interesting name.

Ainslee!

The moment you choose the Pokémon that will accompany you on your journey, your story will truly begin.

I really hope you find what is important to you in all of these travels…"

And then suddenly, the white text is gone, leaving only the black screen.

Unfortunately, you have very little time to ponder this when the lone light bulb in the lone lamp pops, leaving you in darkness.

For a moment, you really wish you had a functional light source or that you hadn't drunk so many cups of coffee. Your full bladder doesn't help.

In fact your courage drops. The darkness is so not cool.

(Your courage drops 1 level.
Your courage is now Knee Knocker)

Wait... what's that noise? It sounds like some sort of screeching. Like your old teacher's sharp fingernails scraping across the blackboard, but magnified a million-fold. And it's getting louder and louder.

For the love of all that is holy and Zubat, where is that noise coming from!?

Oh dang, it's coming from your DS! You quickly scramble to shut it off, searching by touch alone for the power button.

But as soon as you press it, both screens light up and alternate in quick succession. Flashing back and forth, quicker than your mind can register.

You feel dizzy. Oh geeze, this is just like the Porygon epi...

You fall unconscious.

.................................................. .............

You wake up with a splitting headache. Your head is pounding so hard it's like the time your crazy uncle gave you some of his knockout juice. He's no longer allowed at family gatherings.

Slowly you stand up, trying to gather your wits. For some reason you're in some kind of laboratory. Daylight steams in through broken glass windows, illuminating the room which seems to be half-concealed by fog that has rolled in. It is chilly inside and you wish you had a jacket.

You also realize you have no idea how you came to be here.

On the other hand, that nap/passing out seemed to have allowed you to rest. You still have to pee though.

(You've gained 2 energy points!
Your energy is now 5/10!)

The room appears to have four sides.

Ahead of you in some sort of computer terminal.
To the right are several lab workbenches.
To the left is a shelf of various books and texts.
Behind you is an open doorway, the door lies shattered on the ground next to it.

This place is as a freaky as Aunt Muriel's 27 cats (especially when they all stare at you at the same time), but you resolve to play things cool.

You pause to listen for a second.

. . . Nothing.

No shouting, no laughing, no yelling, no screaming. Not even the sound of birds chirping or animals skittering about. Not even of the wind blowing. It's dead silent.

> Go through the broken doorway searching for a place to empty your bladder.

Ah yes, your engorged bladder is fit to burst and it would be absolutely terrible if it burst right now in this fog-ridden laboratory. Then again, no one appears to be around so no one would know.

But you would know. You would always remember that one particular day in which you lost control of your bowels. And that memory would leave you hollow with regret.

No, that would be too embarrassing. You must find a proper latrine facility!

You turn around and march determinately towards the doorway, stepping carefully around the ruins of the door, which on closer inspection was made of wood, possibly oak. Fragments of it lay scattered about.

You peer through the doorway and find it leads to a hallway running perpendicular to the door. There are no windows in the hallway, cloaking the passageways in darkness and fog.

To the left is a corridor leading into darkness and fog.
To the right is a corridor leading into darkness and fog.
Behind you is the half-lit laboratory.

> Call out to see if anyone else is there, preferably someone who can tell you what the hell is going on.

"Is anybody there!?" you call out nervously, your voice hitting a pitch a little higher than you intended.

There is only silence.

I guess you won't find out what the Hell is going on by simply shouting.
