Thunder Wave, then Headbutt. If you don't attack the first turn, use Thunder Wave instead.

The mud sucks at Paperfairy's boots, fighting to hold him in place as he treks through the murky marshes. A pink egg-shaped Pokemon in shorts sits on his head, rubbing the stone nestled comfortably in her shorts while her ponytail bobs with the motion of her trainer. Neither particularly cares for this place. Unfortunately, the marsh is between them and the next city, and so the push onwards. As they circle around a gigantic yellow flower-common in this particular marsh-they come across another trainer Paperfairy knows as Dino, who is working with a pink bipedal bulldog. Their eyes meet. Not a word needs to be said. In the world of Pokemon, that alone is enough to challenge someone. Happiny jumps from Paperfairy's head, and they begin their fight.

Battle Start


Happiny (♀)
Ability: Natural Cure
Moves: Thunder Wave~Headbutt/Thunder Wave

As luck would have it, Happiny landed on a small log rather than the mud, and so is able to act more quickly. Energy moves around her body, vaguely resembling blue lightning, and gathers around her egg stone, snapping and crackling merrily in anticipation. With a downright evil grin that doesn't belong on such a face, she places her stubby hands on the stone, and then throws them outwards. The energy is launched through the air like a net, and ensnares its prey, catching around Cain. It sinks into his skin, targeting his nervous and muscular systems with the intent to mix the former up and cause crippling spasms in the other. As soon as it takes full affect on the panicking Cain, his knee jerks, and he falls, planting his face in the mud.

Body shivering uncontrollably, he forces his arms to push up, scowling under a mud covered face at Happiny, who laughs mockingly at him. Then he remembers Dino's orders. He can't look mad, he has to be flirtatious. Shuddering slightly from the tingling sensations in his back, he straightens up, cocks a casual smirk, and winks, generating a magical pink heart towards the baby Pokemon... or at least he tries to. He gets as far as the smirk, but every attempt at winking is met with failure, his eyelid stopping halfway down. Thus, it just looks like his eye is twitching, which makes Happiny laugh even harder, rather than swoon.

Suddenly, though, she adopts a serious expression, and Cain gulps. This will not end well for him. She jumps off of her log, using the momentum to keep her feet from sinking into the muck, and dashes forward, her head-and therefore her body-nearly horizontal and on a direct collision course for him. Unable to move anywhere near quickly enough to get out of the way, Happiny buries herself directly into Cain's stomach, knocking him off of his feet and back down, making his back match his front in terms of muck. The blow actually took more out of him than he expected, and he simply closes his eyes and breathes deeply, trying to get his wind back. Dino's orders are forgotten.

Use Imprison (Heal Bell, Substitute, Protect).
If Imprison fails for any reason during the first action, use Imprison again.
If you are damaged by a physical attack and you have already used Imprison, use Counter.
If you are not damaged by a physical attack and you have already used Imprison, use Toxic.
If he uses Substitute or Protect for the first action, use Reflect.
If he uses Substitute or Protect for the second action, use Light Screen.

Hmm...
Mud and some bad luck. But we still have the upper hand.
I know that pokemon can't learn imprison, so lets take the advantage!

Let's start with Heal Bell then hit her back with Thunder Wave. If Heal Bell fails, lets try Attract again.

Happiny's evil grin suddenly turns to a frown. Her trainer had ordered Imprison but... she knows what the move did, but has no clue how to use it. It's nowhere in her wide assortment of attacks. Still, it may just be that she had never thought to try. She scrunches up her eyes and pulls her stubby hands to her chest. All she needs, she reasons, is to concentrate.
...
Nothing happens.

Cain, meanwhile, is having some issues of his own. His command is to use Heal Bell, but that requires motion which, sadly, is something of a problem. He focuses his energy into the center of his body, where it forms as a visible blue light. The next movement is to move his arms in a precise manner to expel the light from his body, shoving the source of the affliction out with it. Unfortunately, when he tries, a muscle spasm causes his body to twist as he tries. Instead of curing himself, he only ends up whacking himself in the face.

Shaking his head, Cain focuses on his next instruction while Happiny continues looking like she has constipation, another attempt at Attract. He shoves his eyelid down forcefully, not allowing the paralysis to get in the way, and silently cheers when he feels the heart energy flow from his eye. Sadly, at that particular moment his head suddenly twists, and the heart misses Happiny by a wide margin, vanishing over the horizon. Overall, it has been a hilariously useless round.

Happiny, who was glad to be given a move she could use, started immediately to build her substitute. She sculpted the mud into a shape that looked vaguely like herself and bound it up with a few of the nearby plants. Next, she placed her stubby, pink arms where the heart of the doll would be and began the process of pouring out her own life into the doll. An unpleasant cold feeling crawled up her arms and made them stiffen slightly but she kept them their so that her efforts would not be wasted. Finally, just as the cold felling started to close in on her frantic heart, she withdrew her hands and allowed her guardian to stand. Together they peered into the mist, waiting for their foe to strike.

They didn’t have to wait for very long as Cain had not been sitting idle while she prepared her defence. The little pink dog had stored static electricity in his body and, when ready, gathered it in his arms. The energy, which seemed to be made of crackling, blue lightning, gave off a glow, which would have warned Happiny about what was going to happen if she hadn’t been so preoccupied. Cain released the energy and it shot towards Happiny, Cain chuckled in glee as it approached his enemy but his joyfulness was turned sour when he saw Happiny’s substitute leap in front of its creator. His revenge had been foiled this time – it would be even sweeter when it worked.

Happiny, however, had other ideas. She charged headfirst into the mist where the thunder wave had come from. Cain, who was hoping to get out of the vicinity quick, found that his leg had got itself stuck in the mud while he prepared his attack. He pulled on his leg viciously; Happiny was getting closer now and her forehead was beginning to glow white. She bore down on Cain, who by now had stopped struggling and was bracing himself for the impact. The skulls of the two Pokémon collided with a crack. Happiny stood over Cain, who had fallen due to the force of the attack, wearing the smug look of a victor who was about to finish their fallen foe.

Cain decided to wipe that look off of her face. Once again, the crackling energy filled his arms. “This time it’s point blank,” he told himself. “There’s no way she can get out of this.” Happiny stiffened with terror and tried to move backwards at the same time without much success. Stiffness began to gnaw at Cain’s limbs but he ignored it – he was going to do this, he had to. However, just as he launched the electrical energy, Happiny’s substitute managed to push the pink baby out of the way to allow her to get away free. Happiny stumbled and fell away to Cain’s right, landing safely in the mud. Cain trembled with rage; the substitute had cheated him out of his revenge for the second time. Whatever happened now, he was determined to get his own back on the baby nurse. He felt normal strength return to his limbs; the paralysis was over, now the hunt would begin.

Use Gravity, then use Toxic. If Cain uses Protect, Detect during the 2nd action, or Substitute during the first action, use Drain Punch instead! If Cain uses Protect or Detect during the 2nd action, use Work Up instead!
