A Grimer dragged himself through a gutter and the lost trainer had to side step to avoid it and its trail of filth. Thunderbolt stumbled through the dirty alleyway; he was new to this place and had got lost on his way back from the Evolution Dojo, where he had evolved Deathgrip, his Gligar. The bat was gliding above him now, testing his new found strength. He was still a little unsteady in the air and had to keep landing on the windowsills of the houses on each side of the road to avoid plummeting to the muddy road.

Beartic Tundra looked down on the wandering trainer and his pokémon from a window in one of the deserted buildings. This was his part of town and trespassers were not welcome. Unfortunately, most of his pokémon were patrolling the area to keep other gangs at bay, so he was left with Sul, his Ralts. Her helmeted head tilted up at him, as if she was looking at him, and he nodded. The little psychic-type closed her eyes and sent out a message to all of her trainer’s sentinels to tell them to return as soon as possible. Then the two of them descended to confront the trespassers. Thunderbolt and Deathgrip stopped as Beartic stepped out in front of them, followed by his Ralts.

Meanwhile, several gang members were gathering as if drawn in by the possibility of violence. Some were members of Beartic’s gang and had come to support their leader and help him out while he punished this newcomer. The others were members of a rival gang who had broken in to attempt a take-over. They could use the distraction made by this battle to take up strategic positions throughout the area and then attack with the element of surprise. They just had to make sure that the distraction lasted long enough.

Round One

Beartic Tundra

[Sul] Ralts (F)

HP: 100%
Energy: 100%
Condition: A bit intimidated
Moves: Thunderbolt ~ Protect

Thunderbolt

[Deathgrip] Gliscor (M)

HP: 100%
Energy: 100%
Condition: Ready to go
Moves: Toxic ~ Night Slash

Deathgrip began to store poison in his razor-sharp claws while he watched Sul’s movements closely. He had been wanting to test his new strength ever since his evolution and this seemed to be the perfect way in which to do it; this Ralts wasn’t the strongest opponent but she would have to do for the time being while there was nothing better around. He swooped down on the emotion reader, and gripped one of her arms in his venomous claw. She didn’t make a sound, although it had hurt her, but she started to glow with a purple aura, surprising the Gliscor. The aura then seemed to latch onto Deathgrip, who shuddered visibly. He felt poison surge through him and only then realised what was going on – Sul had given him the condition too using her ability. He had underestimated his opponent and this had been the result. He would have to be more careful in the future.

While her opponent tried to lift off and get some distance between the two, Sul began to charge up electrical energy in her body. The two red horns on her head began to glow as sparks jumped between them, and her arms were wreathed in the shining energy. She glanced at the Gliscor, who had just about managed to perch on a ground-floor window, and then fired a huge blast of energy. The glass behind Deathgrip shattered and he had to stumble back due to the sheer force of the attack, but he was basically unharmed. This was because his typing had allowed him to conduct the electricity safely through his body and into the ground without harming him at all. Sul looked at her opponent; that had been disappointing and had tired her out a lot. There was no way she could make a mistake like that again.

Deathgrip seemed to be getting ready for another attack so the Ralts decided to go on the defensive for the time being. She pressed her arms against an imaginary wall in front of her and focused on making it real. A sparkling, green shield began to fade into existence in front of the feeling pokémon, growing and strengthening as his concentration increased. The shield curved to become a dome which protected her on every side. Nothing could penetrate the wall – Sul was safe from whatever the Gliscor tried to do.

His claw was covered in dark energy and he was ready to strike. Deathgrip had managed to climb to a higher point while his opponent built a shield around herself. Without bothering to check first, he leapt from his new platform and slammed against the glittering shield. There was a groan as he peeled himself off of the solid wall of energy; he hadn’t been hurt but running into it hadn’t been a pleasant experience by any stretch of the imagination. With an unbreakable obstacle stopping him from attacking his opponent, he pushed off of it and caught hold of a nearby windowsill from which he could launch his next round of attacks.

However, the round wasn’t quite over yet. As a slight pain in the stomach began to irritate the two pokémon, the gang members decided that it was time to support their chosen battler. A volley of stones filled the air, striking each of the participants. There were cries of pain from each side, and the gang members then subsided back into the shadows of their hiding places to wait for another opportune moment. The two trainers glared at each other – neither was backing down yet.

Status:

Gliscor quickly got back into the fight, flying up a little bit before swooping down towards Ralts. As he began his glide, its claws began to glow a bright blue. It quickly swung its left claw diagonally at Ralts, slashing directly across the small Pokémon's body. As Gliscor prepared to swing its second claw, Ralts began to charge up ice energy in its left paw. The paw began to glow a bright blue, but Gliscor ignored it, thinking it could finish its assault before the assault had completed it charge. Gliscor swung yet again, using its other claw, forming an X-shaped bruise on Ralts. While the pain was strong, Ralts fought it in order to release its now charged Ice Punch - it swung at Gliscor, slamming into the Ground-type's underside.

Despite the super-effective damage, Gliscor chuckled, as the damage from the punch wasn't even enough to cause significant freezing damage. Gliscor flew away, ready to charge up its next assault. It looped backwards in the air, so as to show off, which angered one of the other gang members. A rock seemingly came out of nowhere, hitting Gliscor and disrupting its flight pattern. Gliscor was annoyed but ignored it, closing in on Ralts instead. The Psychic-type was terrified, but could do nothing about it, as Gliscor repeated its swift X-shaped slash, causing massive damage yet again.

As Ralts steadied itself, it tried for a different approach, closing its eyes before opening them again. This time, its eyes were surrounded by a blue aura. Blue silhouettes of Ralts eyes shot across the field just as Gliscor was turning around in flight. It looked straight into the blue light, and quickly fell asleep, crashing to the ground of the alley. While Ralts was proud, the opposing gang was rather upset, and took to throwing a rock at the back of Ralts' head. Ralts was also annoyed, but didn't let it bother her, as it was a small amount of damage.

[Sul] Ralts (F)

Moves: Switch (Glaceon) ~ Ice Beam

White Knight didn’t want his Gliscor to sit still and take a beating while he was asleep so he decided to get him out of harm’s way by returning him to a poké ball. Meanwhile, Beartic noticed that one of his pokémon had heeded Sul’s call and was watching the battle from her perch on top of a bin. He called her over and told his Ralts to come back to him – not wanting her to get hurt too much more. Shiva the Glaceon jumped gracefully down from her perch and moved into the filthy street, her long, blue tail swaying in the light breeze. Seeing her, White Knight made up his mind as to which member of his, admittedly small, team he should use. There was a flash of light, and a candle appeared on the ground in front of his trainer. A ghostly flame appeared on the top of his head as his yellow eyes studied the ice-fox he was up against. The Glaceon looked back – it didn’t seem like she would find this too difficult.

Crackling white energy began to form in her mouth as she started plotting the candle’s downfall. The energy quickly created a small ball, which hissed as it touched the warmer air around. Twin beams energy split away from this ball and shot at Emo like lightning bolts; they struck him on the wax that covered his right eye, making him tip over. He shuddered from the cold and got back to his feet, ignoring the dirty stain on his back. Meanwhile, a gang member tossed a couple of pieces of Shiva, annoyed that she seemed to be winning this too easily.

Emo certainly felt that he needed a good bit of warmth before he tried to go on; looking at his opponent, he decided that she could do with a bit of heat as well. Flames filled her mouth, giving him a warm feeling inside. When he felt warm enough, he turned on Shiva and unleashed a blazing inferno on her. The Glaceon was enveloped by the fire and cried out in pain. One of Beartic’s gang saw the blaze and shouted at Emo, throwing a handful of masonry while he was at it. The Litwick was hit by the stones and tumbled over. The flames died away and Shiva emerged, she didn’t seem to have taken much damage. Emo was devastated – she had been hurt a lot but she had barely been able to scratch her opponent. On the other hand, it had been more than enough pain for the Glaceon – she wanted this over, and quickly.

Moves: Rain Dance ~ Water Pulse

Shiva knew that no good would come to her if she took too many fire attacks like the last one she had felt. Luckily she had come up with a way of weakening the little candle while strengthening the attacks which could be used to being him down. The ice fox started dancing and water began to fill her mouth. After a little while, she stopped dancing and flung her head backwards. A sphere of water, roughly the size of a poké ball, flew out of her mouth, heading straight up. There was a flash of blue when the ball hit the clouds, followed by a sprinkling of rain. Glaceon looked up, obviously disappointed. But the downpour became heavier and heavier until it was nearly torrential. One of the gang members in a nearby alley obviously didn’t appreciate getting wet and threw a stone at the Glaceon. She didn’t react to the assault, preferring to keep watch on her opponent. She had to be ready to counterattack at a moment’s notice.

Emo frowned at the sudden downpour that fell around him. He was glad that his next attack wouldn’t be using fire but knew that he wouldn’t be able to avoid using his natural element for very long. A curved beam of light fired from the Litwick’s flame, hitting Shiva between the eyes. The Glaceon’s eyes widened slightly in shock; she hadn’t been expecting something like that to happen – certainly not as quickly either. That wasn’t all, however. The ice fox soon realised that her health was being leeched away. Not very much but it was still a significant amount. She broke the connection and moved away from the candle angrily. Emo watched her go. He doubted he could have got any more from her anyway. He was a bit annoyed at how little he’d got but figured that he’d be able to make up for lost time if he moved quickly.

Shiva would have been more comfortable in hail than she was in the rain but she knew that this was essential if she wanted to beat her opponent. Likewise, she would have found it easier to use an attack of her own element but knew that those which used water would be more effective given the current circumstances. The rain falling around the eeveelution stopped falling to the ground and began to form a ball instead, as if some unseen force was drawing them all together. Shiva manipulated the orb so that it span counter-clockwise before kicking it at the flickering light of Litwick’s candle. It hit Emo, the cold water making him gasp. All of this water was making him far too cold for a fire-type. He needed to heat things up a bit.

The ghostly candle focused on whatever heat was left inside of him. Building this up, he found that a wave of warmth washed over him, cancelling out the perennial coldness he had been plagued by. When he had warmed himself enough, he opened his mouth to allow the flames to heat up the surrounding area. There was a loud hissing noise as fire came into contact with water, turning it into steam. A thick mist of steam quickly rose and hid everything in the alley from sight. Emo stopped the flames and the fog began to disappear. Shiva looked back at him through the fog, defiant as ever. One of the gang members, offended by her arrogant face, took the opportunity to throw some rubble at her. The stones bounced off of her shining coat and she looked around angrily for her assailant. Emo stood resting against a nearby building; creating that amount of heat had needed a lot of energy but it had barely scratched the ice fox. Even worse, the rain was still falling and keeping him cold. He would need a new plan if he wanted to win this, and he would need it now.
