(We're technically supposed to use two attacks per round, so are you using Ice Beam twice?)

If so, then we're playing it defensively for this round. Protect against the first Ice Beam, then give me a Secret Power afterward. Looks like we're taking our chances with the second Ice Beam.

The trainers had already taken their positions and chosen their pokémon when the time came for the battle to start. Magnetic_Zero had released a small blue plant with a flower on its head. A putrid stench emanated from the flower, making some of the closest members of the audience hold their noses. On the other side of the arena, murgle-flag was being represented by a small blob-like creature whose eyes didn’t seem to want to open. Both of the battlers were on their lines and ready to go so I blew my whistle to get the match going – these trainers had been waiting long enough.

Round One

Magnetic_Zero

Gloom (M)

HP: 100%
Energy: 100%
Condition: Ready to pummel the blob
Moves: Protect ~ Secret Power

murgle-flag

[Impulse] Gulpin (M)

HP: 100%
Energy: 100%
Condition: Looking forward to the end of the battle
Moves: Ice Beam ~ Ice Beam

Gloom wanted to get straight to work and take down his opponent, but his trainer seemed to think that straightforward attack wouldn’t be the best option. So, the deadly plant began to focus on making a shield in the air between him and Impulse. A wall of glittering blue energy began to come into being in front of the plant as he concentrated. The wall was completely unbreakable; whatever Impulse tried to throw at it would be doomed to fail. Gloom allowed himself to smile – he was safe, for the time being.

However, the Gulpin didn’t know what was going on and continued with his attack anyway. A sphere of white energy formed in front of him, crackling as it came into contact with the warm air. Impulse shivered despite himself, this attack used energy that was unfamiliar to him and it drained quite a bit of his own energy as well. The orb grew, getting more and more difficult to control, until Impulse couldn’t hold it together any more. Twin beams of energy forked towards Gloom like lightning. Unfortunately, they couldn’t get through his shield and broke into an array of freezing sparks. Gloom allowed his shield to fall away so that it shattered like glass. The two pokémon took a quick breather, watching each other, looking for weaknesses. Both were getting into this now – they were ready to get heated up.

Well, perhaps heated up wouldn’t be the right words to use. Impulse was preparing another dose of freezing energy for his opponent. Another ball formed in front of him, draining away even more of his precious energy. He knew that he couldn’t keep using attacks like this for long – he had to either finish his opponent off soon or switch to something less powerful. Nevertheless, he had a clear shot at Gloom now and was determined to use it before he put up another shield. White lightning leapt through the air, drawing a little applause from the audience. The attack hit Gloom’s flower, freezing one of the four petals. He called out in surprise and jumped out of the way of further harm. Impulse smiled while he watched him – there hadn’t been a shield for him to hide behind that time.

However, Gloom hadn’t been planning on using a shield. Now he was running at Gulpin like a maniac. There was nothing to stop him from attacking now – he was free to strike. Impulse had frozen up, transfixed to the spot by fear; he couldn’t do anything now. But, a few steps away from the petrified Gulpin, Gloom stopped and used his stubby feet to kick dirt at him instead. The poisonous blob was surprised by the attack; he had been expecting something much worse. The audience were also surprised, and not in a good way. They had wanted to see some action and this seemed to them to be pathetic. Angry shouting filled the air, all of it directed towards Gloom. The weed stood up and shouted back at them, already planning how he’d show them wrong next round.

HP: 88%
Energy: 81%
Condition: Irritated by the crowd

murgle-flag

[Impulse] Gulpin (M)

HP: 90%
Energy: 52%
Condition: Surprised by that last attack

Notes
Protect- (Gloom -8% Energy)
Ice Beam- (Gulpin -24% Energy; Gloom was protected)
Rolled 2/2, Gulpin moves first
Ice Beam- (Rolled 7/10, 1 to freeze; Gulpin -24% Energy; Gloom -12% HP)
Secret Power- (Rolled 5/10, 3 or less to lower Accuracy; Gloom -11% Energy; Gulpin -10% HP)

Arena Notes
Secret Power took the effect of “sand and other outdoor ground” since I felt that this was the best description of the battlefield.

Okay...I'm not too sure how we can play off of its weaknesses given the typing inconvenience. So I suppose we'll go offensive for now.

Gloom was ready to start things off. It began to sharpen its petals like a person sharpening a knife. Impulse watched this move carefully and extended its tiny arm. A shadow like arm, much longer and bigger than its own formed at Impulses fingertips. The giant black hand rushed toward Gloom while it was sharpening its petals and engulfed Gloom. Gloom stopped where it was and simply stood where it was, almost as if it couldn't remember what to do. The hand retracted and engulfed Impulse as the black hand faded. With that, Impulse began to copy the move, sharpening its own hands like a knife and raising its stats. It had stolen the move. (-3 energy Impulse)

Now that Impulse was stronger and it ready to attack, both began to attack. Gloom decided to attack as well. Both were equally fast, neither over took the other. Gloom charged forward, building speed as it was ready for its attack. Gulpin also moved forward as its right hand began to glow red with fire. Both Pokemon lept into the air, Gloom used its entire body as a facade attack. Impulse slammed its fist into the body of Gloom. The force and power from both Pokemon caused a massive lightning bolt to shoot into the sky. The impact knocked both Pokemon back as they fell to the ground. The move Gloom used was extremely powerful and almost matched the super effective move that Impulse had laid on it. Both Pokemon stood up slowly. This wasn't over!(Gloom-11energy -13hp)(Impulse -16 energy -10HP)

The end was drawing near. Gloom knew this all to well. It happened to be the one to move first. It began to hum a little tune as saliva dripped from its mouth. The tune was very soothing at first to Impulse. As it caught on to the tune, an invisible blast shook Impulse heavily causing a decent amount of damage. Make it stop! Impulse thought as it didn't want to hear anymore of the tune. (Impulse -12hp) (Gloom -5 energy)

Impulse would have none of this nonsense. It began to inhale, taking in a huge breath. It sounded as if it was getting a nice giant wad of spit deep from the back of its throat. This went on for a good 10 seconds or so. Once it finally gathered enough, it spit out a wide spray of purple acid. The acid contacted Gloom, sinking into its skin. Gloom shook a little from the poisonous liquid but stood ready to continue on. (Gloom -7hp)(Impulse -4 energy)

Gloom shook the memory of the nasty poison out of its head as it began to hum the familiar tune once again. Impulse couldn't help but cover its ears...if it had any. The tune had sounded heavenly before but now Impulse was annoyed with it. Make it stop! Make it stop! The same invisible force shook Impulse again. Make it stop! (Impulse -12 hp) (Gloom -5 energy)

Impulse had to make this tune stop. As the tune began to silence, it began to gather material from its own body. The dark black grime dripped from Impulses hand as it it rolled it into a ball. What did this consist of? The most disgusting places to get anything that has sludge. The bottom of a coolant tank, the bottom of a vehicle engine that had not changed its oil in the last three years, and even the sludge that is collected at the bottom of a garbage truck inside the compactor. Impulse smelled the sweet aroma. It hurled the ball at Gloom as the ball broke apart and spread out. As it contacted Gloom, all the grass Pokemon could think of was the horrid smell and sick feeling as the sludge sank into its skin. (Gloom -19hp) (Impulse -18 energy)

HP: 49%
Energy: 60%
Condition: Plenty of fight left.

Wouldn't round need to be used by an ally like in a double battle to have its power doubled?

It seems that way on all the sites I've been to, too. I was going to wait for someone to fix it before posting, but since the DQ time is drawing close, I figured that I'd at least post my actions for the next round.

Use Facade followed up by Drain Punch. However, if it goes in for a Poison or Fire-Type move, use Protect, but only use it once if there's two of those types of moves in a row. If it uses Protect, then simply use Swords Dance.

Magnetic Zone, you have 24 hours to post. Thats 1440 minutes or 86400 seconds. Or else be faced with a beheading! I mean...a DQ. And no, it doesn't stand for Dairy Queen.
