The trainers had already taken their positions and chosen their pokémon when the time came for the battle to start. Magnetic_Zero had released a small blue plant with a flower on its head. A putrid stench emanated from the flower, making some of the closest members of the audience hold their noses. On the other side of the arena, murgle-flag was being represented by a small blob-like creature whose eyes didn’t seem to want to open. Both of the battlers were on their lines and ready to go so I blew my whistle to get the match going – these trainers had been waiting long enough.

Gloom wanted to get straight to work and take down his opponent, but his trainer seemed to think that straightforward attack wouldn’t be the best option. So, the deadly plant began to focus on making a shield in the air between him and Impulse. A wall of glittering blue energy began to come into being in front of the plant as he concentrated. The wall was completely unbreakable; whatever Impulse tried to throw at it would be doomed to fail. Gloom allowed himself to smile – he was safe, for the time being.
However, the Gulpin didn’t know what was going on and continued with his attack anyway. A sphere of white energy formed in front of him, crackling as it came into contact with the warm air. Impulse shivered despite himself, this attack used energy that was unfamiliar to him and it drained quite a bit of his own energy as well. The orb grew, getting more and more difficult to control, until Impulse couldn’t hold it together any more. Twin beams of energy forked towards Gloom like lightning. Unfortunately, they couldn’t get through his shield and broke into an array of freezing sparks. Gloom allowed his shield to fall away so that it shattered like glass. The two pokémon took a quick breather, watching each other, looking for weaknesses. Both were getting into this now – they were ready to get heated up.
Well, perhaps heated up wouldn’t be the right words to use. Impulse was preparing another dose of freezing energy for his opponent. Another ball formed in front of him, draining away even more of his precious energy. He knew that he couldn’t keep using attacks like this for long – he had to either finish his opponent off soon or switch to something less powerful. Nevertheless, he had a clear shot at Gloom now and was determined to use it before he put up another shield. White lightning leapt through the air, drawing a little applause from the audience. The attack hit Gloom’s flower, freezing one of the four petals. He called out in surprise and jumped out of the way of further harm. Impulse smiled while he watched him – there hadn’t been a shield for him to hide behind that time.
However, Gloom hadn’t been planning on using a shield. Now he was running at Gulpin like a maniac. There was nothing to stop him from attacking now – he was free to strike. Impulse had frozen up, transfixed to the spot by fear; he couldn’t do anything now. But, a few steps away from the petrified Gulpin, Gloom stopped and used his stubby feet to kick dirt at him instead. The poisonous blob was surprised by the attack; he had been expecting something much worse. The audience were also surprised, and not in a good way. They had wanted to see some action and this seemed to them to be pathetic. Angry shouting filled the air, all of it directed towards Gloom. The weed stood up and shouted back at them, already planning how he’d show them wrong next round.

Secret Power took the effect of “sand and other outdoor ground” since I felt that this was the best description of the battlefield.
