The two trainers stood at opposite ends of the enlarged board, their pokémon occupying the space in front of them. On one side there was White Knight, whose Toxicroak stood before him proudly. The frog was ready to protect his master from whatever the opponent could throw at him. However, the ones he would be facing didn’t seem to think much of their competition. Paperfairy smirked, showing his confidence deliberately. Gengar took this even further and sneered at Glaro; it was obvious that she didn’t see him as a real threat. With a little flourish, the referee signalled for them to start the battle and the two pokémon moved in for the kill.

Gengar was the first to move; she focused her psychic energy on Glaro, causing him to be wrapped in bright blue energy. Before he had the chance to react, he was pulled off of his feet and thrown across the board. He rolled as he landed, and knocked several tiles out of place. He slowly got back to his feet, but Gengar hadn’t finished yet; he was swept across the floor, taking out several of the carefully laid words around him. The battle had only been going for a few seconds and the battlefield was already beginning to get taken apart – it was hard to imagine what it would look like by the end.
Glaro got up again, after having made sure that his opponent couldn’t control him anymore, and ran at the floating ghost. The claw on his right hand turned black as he channelled dark energy into it. He leapt over a tile and lashed out towards Gengar. The claw dug a cut along the phantom’s left side so that she recoiled slightly. Once she was over the shock from the attack, she moved further back still; she wanted to watch her opponent for a while to see what he did before deciding on her next move.
However, it seemed that this wasn’t the best tactic for her to have used. Glaro quickly realised the attack she was most likely to use and decided to beat her to it. He closed his eyes and began to build up a store of psychic energy, the same type as his opponent had used for her last attack. His eyes then snapped open to reveal the fact that they were glowing with a bright blue colour. A grin spread across the toad’s face as waves of energy hammered Gengar to the ground. The spectre screamed due to the pain caused by the torrent. The attack did a lot more damage than it normally would have done, which meant that Gengar ended up taking quite a beating. By the time she was ready to attack, you could virtually see the anger flaring around her.
More psychic energy wrapped itself around Toxicroak and he was sent spinning to the ground once again. There were cries of pain from the fighting toad but his assailant was merciless. His head was repeatedly smacked against the letter S until he could see Torchic dancing in front of his eyes. He was then tossed to the side and the ghost released him. He stumbled to his feet warily, unsure of whether he would just be smashed down again or not. His head and body ached badly, but he was sure that Gengar was feeling just as bad. This seemed like it would be a close battle.
