Pokemon in Hidden Grotto?
I've been to all the Hidden Grottos numerous times, and the only Pokemon I've ever seen in one was the Minccino in the Route 5 Hidden Grotto. I visit them every day, and I can only find items and Foongus/Amoongus (disguised as Pokeballs). Is there a reason for this? Do I need to do something to get them?
I'm playing White 2, I've been in the Hall of Fame many times, have most metals, and completed Unova Pokedex.

Re: Pokemon in Hidden Grotto?
Nah, Pokemon have a pretty rare chance to show up in a Hidden Grotto. Serebii says that it's a 20% chance for a Pokemon to appear, but I've never seen one either, so I dunno. We could jut both be really unlucky ahah.

Re: Pokemon in Hidden Grotto?
I guess I've been lucky then! I've only visited a handful of Grottos and so far found Minccino, Woobat, Combee and Zangoose. xD I didn't realise Pokemon were so rare...
Congrats on your Bibarel :O

Re: Pokemon in Hidden Grotto?
Wow! I watched a tutorial online and the person had a Clefairy in the Giant Chasm Grotto, but so far I've just found Minccino and Bibarel. I studied Moody Bibarel earlier today and then I decided I wanted one, so I went to the Hidden Grotto thinking, "Lol, I'll never find one...:c" And BOOM. Bibarel. :D

Re: Pokemon in Hidden Grotto?
Yeah, I've only ever found a Minccino. All the other times it's just been a Pokeball. :/

Re: Pokemon in Hidden Grotto?
I've been trying for a few days to get a Gligar from the hidden grotto, with no luck so far. Basically, the mechanics work like this:
- For every 256 steps you take, there is a 5% chance that the grotto will regenerate.
- If regenerated, 40% of the time it will hold an item ball (the items change depending on location)
- 40% of the time, it will be a hidden item (these tend to be shards, mulch, or mushrooms)
- 20% of the time, you'll see a pokemon, however this 20% is divided up between various different pokemon found within the route.
As you can see, the likelihood of encountering pokemon is pretty low, however not all pokemon in each grotto appear at the same frequency, and the 20% occurrence rate is distributed unevenly between the pokemon.
For example, in route 23, where I have been hunting Gligar, there is a 7.5% change of the regeneration resulting in a Zangoose, 7.5 for Seviper, 2% for Golduck, 2% for Absol, and only 1% for Gligar. This means that for every 256 steps that I take, there is only a 0.05% chance of me getting my Gligar. However, once you do find the pokemon you want, I suggest you save before battling it, as while its IV's and gender cannot be reset, its nature can, so you can get one with the right nature reasonably easily once you encounter it in the first place, particularly if you have a pokemon with synchronise and the desired nature at the front of the party.
Serebii has a full list of which pokemon and items are found where, and the chance of them occurring.
I've been going for well over 15 hours, and counting

Dang, those are some pretty grueling odds. But keep trying! I hope you find your Gligar!

Re: Pokemon in Hidden Grotto?
Those pokemon in the Grottoes are pretty rare, they also have hidden abilities aswell, hence the rarity.
I've found:
-Minccino
-Pichu
-Marill
-Skorupi
and that mushroom lookin thing.
It's funny though, i'm more concerned about finding evolution stones in the grottoes than anything else but they never spawn for me.

I've never found a Pokémon in a Hidden Grotto. They're usually empty for me :(

Re: Pokemon in Hidden Grotto?
If you click A on the center, you can find hidden items. :)
I've found:
Pelipper
Woobat
Bibarel
Pachirisu
I usually only find mulch. :c

Wow congrats ND! I didn't know they could regenerate after 256 steps. I thought it was a daily thing. xD I will have to check them more often now!

Yeah they're regenerative, but you'll mostly get Mulch or low-grade items anyway, still doesn't hurt to check though, i'm currently after a medicham, Lol.
