They are all pretty good. Mudkip will help you on the 1,3,4 gyms. Torchic 1,5 gym. and Treeko 1,8 gyms. So I say Mudkip

i say go with a mudkip because i think it is the best starter in the game because then it turns into water and ground wich is not affected by electris wich is really good and it will help you a lot in the gym leaders

Mudkip's a good choice, but you tend to get a lot of water-types throughout these Pokemon games anyways. Normally Fire and Grass are harder to come around. (Unless this isn't like the other games. XD.) I'd go with Torchic or Treecko, either are strong fighters if you use them correctly.

In the Pokedex, it doesn't say it turns Ground, just says its a pure water ARCANINE911.

He means that it evoles into Marshtomp and then Swampert who are Water/Ground

Yup, Mudkip's definitely a good one, it evolves into Marshtomp and Swampert which is both Water type and Ground type, so it's pretty effective against electric Pokemon.

Well treeko can learn good TM's as a sceptile, but alot of gyms will be tough.
torchic can learn brilliant fighting moves as a blaziken and can learn the TM flamethrower
mudkip can learn awsome moves as a swampert like muddy water, earthquake, and should learn the TM ice beam. I'd say mudkip because once it learns ice beam, it can beat more gyms.
