The Prince of Pokemon - The Mississauga News
In the world of Canadian Pokemon, one boy reigns supreme - 10-year-old Matthew Kimmerer of Mississauga. The Pokemon phenom just finished up successfully defending his national championship on the weekend at the Best Western Primrose Hotel in Toronto, where he triumphed once again in the junior category (10 and under).
...
For Matthew, his journey to the top of the Pokemon world all started two and a half years ago, when he happened upon a group of youngsters playing the card game at Thomas Street Middle School.
From there, as they say, the rest is (Canadian Pokemon) history. Matthew's next stop is Kona, Hawaii, where he will be competing in his third World Championship. He won the trip and hotel accommodations for himself and a guardian (though both of his parents will be attending) with his victory in Toronto.
In the two previous World Championships, Matthew placed 34th and seventh out of 150 contestants, and looks to improve his standing this year. His dad thinks he has a good chance to win the whole event.
"We're hoping he's going to win the whole thing," said Daryl. "He's definitely one of the 10 kids (competing in Hawaii) who could easily pull off a win."
