INTRODUCTION
In pokemon, battling is a very complex affair for those that want to do competitive battle, but those who just want to complete the basic game and content on doing so should be glad to know it much easier for you.

This battle guide is to help anyone get the best out of there pokemon, there are plenty of guides out there for this kind of thing but all the ones I see always have something missing, so I decided to make my own more complete guide.

STATS –s001
When fighting and training its best to know what stats are used for what.

HP (hit points) – when a pokemon is damaged it loses HP, when your pokemon’s HP reaches 0 your pokemon faints and no longer can fight.

Attack – used for physical attack.

Defence – used to defend against physical attack.

Sp.attack – used for special attack.

Sp.defence – used to defend against special attacks.

Speed – if your pokemon has higher speed it attacks first (unless the opponent uses a move like quick attack).

MOVE STATS –M002
All moves have stat and are useful to know.

Type – this decides if it is more or less effective.

Category – this is weather it is physical, special or other.

PP (power points) – how many times you can use the move.

Base power – how powerful the move is.

Accuracy – chance of hitting the opponent.

PHYSICAL AND SPECIAL ATTACKS
It is good too remember when battling is when your attacks category is physical your pokemon uses the stat “attack” and when it is special you use the stat “sp.attack”

DEFENDING ATTACKS
Attack – defence
When your opponent attacks using a physical attack only your defence is used to defend, NOT you’re Sp.defence.

Sp.attack – SP.defence
When your opponent attacks using a special attack only your sp.defence is used to defend, NOT you’re defence

STAT CHANGE
This is so you can understand what it means when it says “your attack went up”.
When it says something went up it means it has gone up 1 stage.
When it says something went up sharply it means it has gone up 2 stages.
When your stat goes down it goes down stages.
You will always start at stage 0.

CLASS OF POKEMON –c004
Selecting job/roles for pokemon is a really good way of getting the best out of you pokemon and there natural ability, I’ll tell you what stats are need.
Also selecting jobs is a great way of making it easier to design a team seems you can break your team down and integrate tactics. And lay out a strategy.

CLASSIFIYING POKEMON
There are 3 different types of classes for pokemon these are sweeper, tank and other. These can be Brocken down in to smaller groups called jobs,
I am using sweepers as an example.

Class
.......................................Sweeper
Job................................./......|.....\
..............Physical sweeper.......|....Special Sweeper
............................/.......Mixed sweeper.......\
........................../...................|...................\
Sub roles.........../.......any of the below...........\
................Sub puncher.............|............... sunnybeamer
.......................|......................|... ..................|
.......................|......................|... .............IceStromer
.......................|......................|... ..................|
..........Safeguarder __________|_______ Thunderdancer
..............................................|
.....................................Critical hitter

So if I wanted a sub puncher it would be sweeper/ physical sweeper/ sub puncher.
So if you connect all branches on the diagram with there respective description below you will get a brief description of you pokemon.

Class is what the pokemon’s basic aim and role in your team.

Job is what stats the pokemon has.

Sub role is what kind of move set the pokemon has.

Note: this is my way of classifying pokemon, I been thinking about how to do it for a long time and this is the best way.

SWEEPERS –s005

Class
.......................................Sweeper
Job................................./......|.....\
..............Physical sweeper.......|....Special Sweeper
............................/.......Mixed sweeper.......\
........................../...................|...................\
Sub roles.........../.......any of the below...........\
................Sub puncher.............|............... sunnybeamer
.......................|......................|... ..................|
.......................|......................|... .............IceStromer
.......................|......................|... ..................|
..........Safeguarder __________|_______ Thunderdancer
..............................................|
.....................................Critical hitter
Sweeper
Sweepers are fast and heavy hitters in other words are used to brake through heavy defences or to finish the fight as fast as possible, this can help counter opponent’s tactics because the opponent may need time or more than one pokemon to work such as baton passers or stat uppers. Sweepers are used mostly to finish of a battle.

Physical sweepers
These need great attack and good speed, they are not great against pokemon with high defence, so they should be use along side a special sweeper.

Special sweepers
Special sweepers need great sp.attack and good speed. Not good against pokemon with high sp.defence, best being used with a physical sweeper.

Mixed sweepers
Mixed sweepers need great attack and sp.attack and good speed, good against pokemon with high defence or high sp.defence, the main failing is they mostly have low defences it’s self.

Sub roles

Sub puncher
Sub puncher is a pokemon that uses substitute or a move that prevents attacks from the opponent like spore, this lets you uses focus punch with out flinching. This is a powerful combo best used with physical sweepers.

Safeguarder
Safeguarder are pokemon that use safeguard a then use moves like trash, petal dance and outrage. These move attack 2 to 3 turns in a row but at the end the user is confused but now because the use used safeguard the user doesn’t get confused for 5 turns. With out safeguard I would suggest staying clear of moves like outrage unless you know what you’re doing.

Sunnybeamer
Sunnybeamer is a pokemon that uses sunny day which powers up fire moves and sola beam doesn’t need to charge so it turns in to a one turn move. Best use by special sweeper holding heat rock. Sunny day can also be used well with move like synthesis, morning sun and ect.

Ice stormer
These are pokemon that uses the move hail which hurts all pokemon in play that are not part ice types and also makes the move blizzard 100% accurate, so if blizzard doesn’t beat the opponent they might faint in between turns by hail so you don’t have to needlessly use up PP.

Thunderdancer
Thunderdancer is a pokemon that uses rain dance which powers up water moves and thunder always hits best used with a special sweeper holding damp rock.

Critical hitter
Critical hitters are pokemon that raise there chances of hitting a critical hit by using focus energy(rise 1 stage) and a move like slash(rise 2 stages) which has a higher chance of hitting a critical hits wile holding a scope lens(rise 1 stage) (the max amount of stages you can rise up to is 4). Hitting a critical is very good seems you do almost twice the damage.

TANKS –t006

Class
.........................................Tank
Job................................./.....|....\
................................Wall......|...Spru ng
.................................../.Mixed tank.\
...................................\.........|.... ..../
.....................................\____|____/
Sub role.................................|
.........................................Healer
.............................................|
....................................Stat cleanser
.............................................|
..........................................Hazer
.............................................|
.........................................Mister
.............................................|
.........................................Staller
.............................................|
......................................Sleeptalker
.............................................|
.........................................wisher
Tanks
Tanks can take a lot of damage, a tank are good for supporting other pokemon on your team and allows you time to set up your tactics and allow time for affects of your tactics to work, like will-o-wisp, toxic and aqua ring. Most good tanks have healing moves like recover. Tanks mostly are slow so trick room can help and even better if your team is quite slow.

Wall
Wall need high defence and good hp, walls are great against physical sweepers but are not good against special sweeper. Best to be balanced out with a sponge in your team.
Good natures are impish, bold, relaxed and lax.

Sponge
Sponge will need great Sp.defence and good hp. Sprung are great against special sweepers but not good against physical sweeper. Best to be balanced out with a wall in your team.
Good natures are calm, genital, sassy and careful.

Mixed tank
Mixed tank will need good defence, sp.defence and hp, like most balanced pokemon they don’t have a particular strength or weakness, its good for countering mixed sweeper.
Good nature are relaxed, impish, bold, calm, genital, and sassy

Sub role

Healer
Healers are good against trainers that switch out pokemon often, seems as it heals its self so it’s fresh to start again.

Stat cleanser
These are pokemon that use moves like heal bell and aromatherapy, these moves heal all stat problems on the whole team. This is a really good counter against Para, burner or toxic-shufflers.

Hazer
Hazers are pokemon that uses haze to counter stat increasing moves like dragon dance, clam mind and sword dance. Similar moves are roar and whirlwind but haze doesn’t carry the risk of something nasty coming out after.

Mister
Misters are pokmon that use mist prevents your opponent from lowering your stats, this stops your opponent from lowering your defence and this means you won’t be weakened especially if they switch out.

Staller
Stallers are pokemon that last as long as it can so moves that work between turns will-o-wisp and toxic can work, the idea is to kill the opponent slowly. So confuse ray, fly and healing moves are useful.

Sleeptalker
Sleeptalkers are pokemon that rest then use snore or sleep talk to heal and attack in the same time. Also mint berry awakes up the pokemon when it falls asleep.

Wisher
wishers use the wish, wish is a move that heals the pokemon by 50% the next turn even if you switch out, a good way of using this if you think you are going to die you can use wish so when you do die the pokemon you switch out to will be healed, or you can just heal your whole party by switching out. This can save loads of move slots of your pokemon.

Other
Others usury are tactical fighting pokemon, mostly made for speed and defence or an all rounder. To take a few hits and to get the first move, these are mostly built for making problems for your opponents, they ant made for the attack but an attack is useful if it helps speeds up a plan or if it end up being your last pokemon it is really embarrassing.

Annoyer
Annoyers need good defence, good speed, and ok attack, this makes this pokemon more balanced than most other kind of pokemon but made different by the move sets. Annoyers are pokemon that make it really hard for the opponents indirectly but still deals damage once and a wile.

Para-flincher
Para-flincher is a cunning way of being defensive and offensive in the same time. The first paralyze the opponent, then use attack that may cures flinching or attack holding kings rock or an item like kings rock but if you attack second your opponent will not flinch. This will dramatically reduce the chance of your opponents landing an attack on you.

Para-confuser
Almost the same in idea, as the Para-flincher it allows you to attack wile being defensive, but this is different because it confuses the opponent so it matters less which attack you use. AND! you can control the damage your opponent does to them self’s by using move that raise the opponents attack or by lowering the opponents defence, this works because the damage you get by hitting your self is dictated by the difference between and defence. Attract is a good move to have with Para-confruser and Para-flinchers but it depends on if the opponent is the opposite gender, so I tend to avoided this move.

Leech-sleeper
Leach-sleeper is a good one in my view because leach seed drains hp from your opponent to heal the user, so when you induce sleep it gives the user more time for leech seed to work to attack and even to change pokemon seem as leech seed will still work regardless if you switch out.

Trapper
Trappers are pokemon that traps the opponent into by using mean look or fire spin, this is useful because it’s a good combo with stuff like will-o-wisp or punish song.

Taunter
The move taunt stops the opponent from doing moves that don’t deal damage directly for 2-4 turns. This can really knock the opponent off balance which this may forces them to completely rethink what they are going to do. This can stop stat uppers and a lot of annoyers in there tracks.

Tormenter
Torment is a move that stops the opponent from using the same moves twice in a row. This can delay the opponent from either dealing great damage or putting plans in to Acton.

Counter
Counters use move like magic coat and counter, this is pretty much a bit of a gamble but this is reduced by move like encore, taunt and torment. Encore is what I think is the best, seems it makes the opponent use the same attack for 2-6 turns

Shuffler
Shufflers are needed to have good defence and great speed. The aim is to affect the hole opposing team, so the Idea of the job is to reduce amount of hits it take but also make it robust to hits. Shufflers are also good at countering stat uppers.

Toxic/burner-shuffler
Are pokemon that is succeeded in affecting the hole team it can seriously harass the opponent they will have to rush the fight as much as they can to win the fight, so if you slow the opponent down with a healer tank, you will win.

Para-shuffler
These are made to make it easier to defend because the opponent attacks second almost all the time and there is 25% chance of not being able of attacking, if this was used successfully against me it would really pee me off.

Spikier
Spikier use toxic spike and spike to hurt the opponent when they switch this will make them very reluctant to switch will you still can do so freely this is an advantage in its self, let alone the damage the opponent will get, also shuffling will induce damage. Spikier pokemon are best used in first place in the team.

Baton passer
Baton passers are used for passing on advantages they have gained to the pokemon you switch out to. This you will need good defence and speed.

Sub passer
Sub passer uses substructure then baton pass, this is defensive baton passing.

Evader /Stat passer
This is when the user uses stat increasing moves like sword dance and double team. This means that you can use this both offensive and defensively. Double team is very effective with both tanks and sweepers but best with stallers or para-flincher.

Trap passer
Trap passer are pokemon that use mean look to trap the opponent then baton pass to a pokemon that can deal with the opponent more easily.

NATURES -n008
Pokemon natures only matters if you know what you want from your pokemon and also what you don’t need as much.

(+) Means 10% more on the stat
(-) Means 10% less on the stat
..._______________________________________________ ___

|-Speed..|.Brave.....|. Relaxed|... Quiet.......| Sassy..|.. Quirky.|
.\-----------------------------------------------------------------------/
this was a table

There is something else that affects the pokemons stats, these are more like behavior than nature.

Hp
Likes to relax, Often dozes off, likes to scatters things, Often naps and Likes to eat.

Attack
Proud of it’s power, A little quick-tempered, Like to thrash about, Quick tempered and Hot tempered.

Defense
Capable of taking hits, Good perseverance, Highly persistent, Sturdy body and Good endurance.

Sp.Attack
Often lost in thought, Mischievous, Very finicky, Highly curious and Thoroughly cunning.

Sp.Defense
Somewhat vain, Somewhat stubborn, Strongly defiant, Hates to lose and Strong willed.

Speed
Like to run, Quick to flee, Impetuous and silly, Somewhat of a clown, Alert to sound.

EV TRAINING –e009
EV Training or effort value training is really good on getting the edge on your opponent and gives you extra stat points.

How does it work?
Well, whenever you defeat a pokemon you gain Effort points on certain stats. When you get 4 effort points it adds up to 1 effort value which means when you level up you will gain extra points on a stat when you reach level 100 you will have 1 on a certain stat per EV you gained.

How much EP can I gain?
You can gain 510 EP.
You can put at maximum 252 EP on one stat.
If shared equally between all stats its 85 EP on each.

But doesn’t this take a lot of time to do?
Yes but there are things you can do for speeding up the process such as:

Vitamins
You can have 10 of each vitamin which adds up to a 100 EP
HP up-adds 10 hit points EP
Protein-adds 10 attack EP
Iron-adds 10 defense EP
Calcium-adds 10 special attack EP
Zinc-adds 10 special defense EP
Carbos-adds 10 speed EP

Pokerus
Getting pokerus is completely random, you get it by ether battling or catching a pokemon with pokerus. Pokerus doubles the EP you gain from defeating a pokemon.

EV training items
These items half’s your but doubles the EP you gain from defeating a pokemon.
Power weight - Hit points
Power bracer - Attack
Power belt - Defense
Power lens – Sp.attack
Power band – Sp.defense
Power ankle - Speed
With both these items and pokerus you can get 4 times the EP.

Exp.share
Yes as well as exp it also shares EP points as well.

Which pokemon give off which EP?
HP

Attack
http://www.serebii.net/pokedex-dp/attack.shtml

Defense

Sp.attack

Sp.defense
http://www.serebii.net/pokedex-dp/sdefense.shtml

Speed
http://www.serebii.net/pokedex-dp/speed.shtml

Oops I defeat a pokemon which I didn’t mean to do, what can I do?
Don’t worry you can lower your EP by giving your pokemon some berries.
Pomeg berry - Lower hit point by 10 EP
Kelpsy berry - Lower attack by 10 EP
Qualot berry - Lower Defense by 10EP
Hondew berry - Lower Sp.Attack by 10 EP
Grepa berry - Lower Sp.defense by 10 EP
Tamato berry - Lower speed by 10 EP

TEN TIPS –t010
-Remember that all team work best when they work together.
-For a balanced team I’d suggest to have 2 sweeper, 2 tanks and 2 other.
-Avoid your pokemon from fainting because you might not be able to carry on with your plans.
-Try not to have two or more direct attack of the same type on the same pokemon.
-Remember STAB moves, these are moves that are the same type as the user the move, the move gets a boost of 50%.
-Think careful about what items your pokemon hold.
-Thank your for reading my post it’s taken a long time to do but it will be great if it helps you.
-Take time to plan and train your team.
- don’t use cheats it cheap and sad, plus it will be MUCH more rewarding when your finished.
-Look at all the moves and look at every option when planning a team.

Thank you for reading this it took a LONG time to do and if it helps it will make me very happy to know.
But if u have a suggestion then please say.

If you want to use this on a web site then just say as long you give me credit I can see no problem and put a link to this site at the top and bottom problem.

Not if you Baton Pass it.

I like this guide, overall, though I'd omit the part about passing Double Teams. Standard battles have Evasion Clause up.

This is pretty good, but it doesn't actually help with team-building very much, because it doesn't include strategies for composing a set of 6 (or maybe 3) Pokémon to battle with. So the title is a little misleading.
