The one who finds it in the porridge by luck and eating, is said to have good luck next year.
In the evening, we pretty much only eat. Instead of turkey, we have a huge ham (5-10 kg), carrot- , potato- and liver"boxes". Loads of different fish, like salmon, cod and others. For dessert, the traditional one is "sekametelsoppa" which, if translated straight, means " mixed noise soup". It consists of plums, apricots and pears.
After eating the main dish and the dessert, and probably drinking coffee and tea, the Santa comes. In Finnish, his name is Joulupukki, translated, "Christmas Goat". The name comes from a legend which I wont tell now. But in Finnish manner, the Santa does not live at North Pole but at Korvatunturi, "the Earmound". That's where he sets off from.
Santa delivers presents on the 24th evening of Christmas and the people are happy. The 25th and 26th day are for resting, playing around with the presents and honoring the dead relatives by taking candles to their graves. The graveyard is a beautiful sight once all the candles are lit.
That's a nice summary of it.

THATS what a Christmas goat is... yeah my science teacher gave a big speach before break abotu about different cultures and stuff and metioned that.
He also mentioned some other intresting cultural traditinos that seem screwed up compared to yours....
But that sounds cool... but really why an almond... why not a snickers bar.(JK. nto trying to make fun of your culture)

From Wikipedia:
"Pharyngealisation is a secondary articulation of consonants or vowels by which the pharynx is constricted during the articulation of the sound. Arabic also uses phonemic secondary pharyngealisation for the "emphatic" coronal consonants. The letter ayn represents a pharyngealized glottal stop in many dialects. Ubykh, a Northwest Caucasian language formerly spoken in Russia and Turkey, uses pharyngealisation in 14 pharyngealised consonants. Chilcotin has pharyngealized consonants that trigger pharyngealization of vowels. Many languages (e.g. Salishan, Sahaptian) in the Plateau culture area of North America also have pharyngealization processes triggered by pharyngeal or pharyngealized consonants that affect vowels. In Danish many of the vowel phonemes have distinct pharyngealized qualities."
Hope that helps.

>_>
Half of the words are ununderstandable because half of the words include "pharyngealisation"...

Re: If anyone's interested in Finnish...
lol, Let's see if I can "translate".
A secondary articulation is where the tongue (or whatever) sorta "floats" over a point of articulation thus modifying the airstream and sound of the original sound. An example in English would be the sound that "qu" makes: a velar stop (ie "k") with a labial secondary articulation (the "w" sound).
I'm not completely sure if I pronounce pharyngeal consonants correctly, but an educated guess would be that your pharynx'd be above your glottis (er... kinda where your adam's apple is) somewhere behind your uvula (the dangly thing).
It goes on to say languages like Arabic employs phonemic pharyngealized consonants like t, s, and d, and later that pharyngealized consonants sometimes pharyngealize surrounding vowels.
I've read in a teach-yourself-Arabic book that you can best approximate emphatic consonant by pretending you have a mouthful of cotton. I kinda tighten my throat like I'm hacking up a furball or something.

Now you killed the Finnish thread by posting a reply that no one could reply to.
