GUIDE: Battle Tower
So YOU want to beat the battle tower Because... A. You need another star on your trainer card.
B. You want the items you can get with the battle points.
C. You want your Pokemon to have nice ribbons.
D. You want recognition for being the best, and you have to beat this to TRULY beat the game.
If you answered yes to any of these, then this thread is for you.
Lets get some things out of the way.
You should be familiar with the following threads and sites, and if you aren't, get.
- This thread will tell you all the terminology you will need to know.
- These will help you with Iv and EV training your Pokemon.
- This will help you with natures.
This has some BASICS on the Battle Tower Such as banned pokemon.
Ok, now I am sure you would like to know an easy way to get to the top. Well there is NOT. Even with the best of teams, every team has a weakness and you will have to rely on luck many times. But there are ways to boost your chances of surviving and striving to become the best. And this is what this thread is for.
So lets start with the basics. You will want to know your foe as much as possible.
The battle tycoon will be most of your worries. He will be what most people strive to beat.
He will appear 2 times, once after your twentieth battle, and once after your 49th battle. You get 20 battle points for beating him, witch can buy you a nice little gift at the battle point exchange area.
So, at his first appearance he will have the following-
Milotic/Salac berry
Ability-Marvel scale- Hypnosis
- Hydro pump
- Recover
- Dragon pulse
Dragonite/Wide lens
Ability-Inner Focus- Dragon rush
- Stone edge
- Iron Tail
- -------------
Rhyperior/Expert Belt
Ability-Solid rock- Ice beam
- Flamethrower
- Thunder Bolt
- Rock Wrecker
For the first time facing the Tower Tycoon useing ONE the following Pokemon is advised as a start-off Pokemon-
(First recommendation)
Starmie/life orb
Ability-Natural cure
Timid/modest nature- Surf
- Thunder bolt
- Ice beam
- Psychic
OR
(Second recommendation)
Porygon Z/Life orb
Ability-adaptability
Timid/modest. Timid is highly recommended.
- Thunderbolt
- Ice beam
- Tri-attack
- Move of your choice
OR
(Third recommendation)
Gengar/life orb
Ability-levitate
Modest/timid. - Thunder bolt
- Giga drain
- hypnosis
- shadow ball
Important
These Pokemon Should have high Ev and IVs in speed and special attack.
How to use these pokemon.
These Pokemon's Ice type attacks should take care of his Dragonite with a nice 4*damage. Except with Gengar who must use a hypnosis first so it can stab 2 shadow balls at Dragonite.
- Their water/grass should easily take care of Rhyperior. (4*Damage) With the exception of Porygon Z, who would use ice beam in this case. (2* Damage)
- Their electric type attacks MAY take care of Milotic. (2*damage) It has rather high Sp. defense from what I see, and May take a dose of Gengar's thunderbolt and put you to sleep.
- And Starmies natural cure ability is very handy when Milotic is hypnosing all over the place.
A second Pokemon with insomnia is recommended, because of Milotic's hypnosis/recover techniques. A list of Pokemon with insomnia is provided in the link.
And finally I believe you should put in a personal favorite of yours, because winning without a Pokemon you don't like is not worth the win.

Re: How to defeat the battle tower
The second time you battle the tycoon, he will have the following Pokemon-
Cresseila/Leftovers
Ability-Levitate
- Calm mind
- Shadow ball
- Psychic
- Moonlight
Heatran/---------
Ability-Flash fire- Flash cannon
- Magma storm
- Dark pulse
- --------------
Regigigas/Chople berry
Ability-Slow start- Brick break
- Crush grip
- Ice punch
- Stone edge
The following is another improvisable team that is advised to defeat the Tycoon-
Ninjask/focus sash
Ability-speed boost
Adamant/Jolly (Adamant is recommended)- Swords dance
- Protect
- Baton pass
- X-Scissor
(Speed and attack Ev's/Ives)
Regigigas/leftovers
Ability-Slow start
Adamant/jolly- Crush grip
- Earthquake/Fire punch/Thunder punch
- Double team/T-wave
- Drain punch
(Attack and health(OR)speed Ev's/Ives)
A Hazer is suggested for your final Pokemon, due to some annoying stat Changes your opponent can have.
A Gengar (like from Above) can be bread with Haze and make a good special sweeper.
Gengar/life orb
Ability-levitate
Modest/timid. - Explosion
- Giga drain
- hypnosis/HAZE
- shadow ball
(Ev's and IVes should be placed on speed and health)
A list of other hazers is provided here.
Otherwise, insert you favorite battler Pokemon.
The Tycoon can come out with any of his 3 Pokemon at random so you have to be prepared.
You will start off with Ninjask, and depending on which Pokemon you are facing, you will respond with the following-- Cresseila- You will do Swords Dance, then X-Scissor to kill Cresseila. Cresseila will most likely faint. (2* Damage)
- Heatran-Protect followed by Swords Dance, then one more protect ending with Baton Pass to Regigigas.
- Regigigas-You do not want his Regigigas reaching Full speed, so go ahead and use Swords Dance, then Baton Pass to your Regigigas.
Regigigas Stalls for time with Double team/T wave. (Because of its slow start) While it lacks in power because of its ability, Ninjask can give its stats to him. Regigigas will use Double team/T-wave on the 1st turn. Then use an attack suiting the right amount of effective damage. Crush grip gives you stab and a nice 110 base attack power against full health opponents, then drain punch can help keep this beast in the game. Gains a lot of health from Heatran. (*2 damage)
A Hazer will wash away all your opponents (and your) stat Changers. Very good against Cresslia. Also works against other Baton Passers, Belly Drummers, Swords Dancers, Cursers, etc.
Gengar's Explosion will help out when you need an unexpected quick kill. Ninjask can help boost Gengar's stats first if the need is great.
Now, you have beaten the tycoon and want to go for it all? The Black card? The recognition? The Glory? The battle points?
You have to keep a few things in mind. Your opponents are now random and unpredictable. Now what?
A few things that will always appear.
1. A Blissey.
2. A Tauros/Miltank
3. Togekiss
For some odd reason, these 3-4 Pokemon tend to Own you once you hit a certain point in the battle tower. They mostly can be beaten with Either a STATUS WALL or a Physical sweeper. So those are two Pokemon you may want on your team, so for an overall team, I suggest...
- 1. A special sweeper(One sweeper should be a stat gain/sweep)
- 2. A Physical sweeper(One sweeper should be a stat gain/sweep)
- 3. A Status wall
Ex. For #1.

Starmie/life orb
Ability-Natural cure
Timid/modest nature- Surf
- Thunder bolt
- Ice beam
- Psychic
Ex. for #2
Salamance/Muscle Band
Ability-intimidate
- Dragon dance
- Earthquake
- Dragon claw
- Areail ace
Ex. for #3

Blissey/leftovers
Ability-Natural cure- Soft boiled
- Toxic
- Substitute
- Protect
Keep in mind the above were just examples, and should not be made into an exact replica team.

Re: A guide on how to defeat the battle tower
Will you add a post revealing common opponents NOT used by Palmer?
I know what he uses, but I want to know what else to watch for. Like the Species and move types.
Maybe list the moves you see separate from the Pokemon that use them so some of us can prep for COUNTER & MIRROR COAT. Maybe even Shedinja...
Perhaps the addition of what personally causes you problems. Or seems to create issue with others.

Yes, that is very difficult, but I will try. Considering that there are so many possibility.
But the counter/mirror coat seems like a good idea. At this moment, I know that the following Pokemon know counter/mirror coat.
Slaking/
Hitmonchan
And I know many times they will have a Focus Sash And use protect/detect first to get an idea of which type of move you are going to use. (special/physical)
I have had it use on me countless times, but I cant remember for SURE, so I cant put the others. But I will look out for problem Pokemon as I battle the battle tower and update the thread. Thankyou.

Do you know Regigigas cannot legally learn Protect?

Oh. No I did not. I am surprised I did not catch that. I assumed it could learn it when putting down his information. My Regi- Has T-wave and I didnt want any exact repliclas walking around so I put protect in the guide instead. I did not check Serebii first because I assumed that since most pokemon could learn it, he could to. Thanks.

Re: GUIDE: Battle Tower
I have not updated this in a while, but expect some soon.
It will be easier for you to beat your d/p battle tower! When platnum comes out, you can transfer the uber pokemon (such as salamance with outrage) to d/p!!! from what I hear. Yet to be comfirmed.
(Yes, this thread has not been posted in for a month, but I had a g-mods permisson to "bump" it.)

Re: GUIDE: Battle Tower
Thanks Swigrainbow, this guide is helpful. I have already beated the Tower Tycoon three times at the 20 win mark, and once a couple days ago at the 40 win mark, but I am striving for the black card. I have I think around a 56 win streak. I Still have a long way to go, but this will help. Thanks. And BTW, some random guy in a room had an ARTICUNO! IS that possible?

YEs, as you progress, people will tend to have better pokemon, even legondaries. The legondary birds and dogs are not banned.
