Default Dragonfree's pixel art

Uh, hi. It seems like I have a thread here, but a very ancient one, so instead of bumping it, I figured I'd just make a new one.

So yeah, I've made a bunch of random sprite edits and pixel-overs and stuff over the past five years, but the latest interesting pieces I made are these:

The first one is a pixel-over of a Vulpix I drew that I was just fixing a bit now by redrawing the ear and head curls. The shading still bugs me; any suggestions would be appreciated.

The second one was made after a guy called MetaMew got me to agree to help him retouch this sprite that he made. Since the original was pretty impossible to work with, I ended up basically scratching a new one on top of it, obviously MetaMew's design and in a similar pose, but that's just about where the similarities end.

The third one is a D/P sprite of Thunderyu, one of my fake legendary dragon trio, made from scratch. The wings don't look as huge compared to the body as I'd have liked, but I couldn't fit them into the frame any larger. It is inspired by the pose of the old sprite, which was a very heavily edited Aerodactyl base with Charizard parts:

So uh, yeah. Constructive criticism always appreciated.

good job with the sprites, and keep up the good work. Also that Vulpix sprite is cool.

Wow, Dragonfree. I always knew that you were amazing, but every time I see your sprites I'm still not prepared for how awesome you are!

So yeah. I always was a big fan of your sprites and pixel art, anyway! ^^;;

Well, well, well. Nice to see you on here, Dragonfree. I'm pretty sure you have a lot more to post on this gallery, right? These are very nice.

You need to post scorplack.

I'll be posting anything new that I make.

So here's Volcaryu, the second of the trio:

I don't like it as much as the Thunderyu one, but it still fixes some issues with the old sprite. The old one looked like this:

It was made from Kangaskhan's body and legs with Feraligatr's arms, Aerodactyl's head and Houndoom's horns, with everything else scratched.

Here's a beta version of Polaryu. Unlike the other two, I was giving Polaryu a bit of a makeover in design as well as in sprite quality.

I hate the wings and absolutely cannot figure out what to do with the shading on them. And the crystals on the limbs look pasted on. And it's a bit monochromatic. But I like the head, the pose and the new design. I'll do something with those wings and possibly reconsider the placements and/or number of crystals later, but for now I'd like some input on it so far. This is what the old one looked like:

I think it would be good to move the wings closer to the head, but I don't know what to do for shading.

You have excellent spriting talents, Dragonfree.
I love all of your sprites, they are simply wonderful.

For Thunderyu, I think that he is practically perfect, but the lower area of his wing (where it connects to his body) is a little bit too small.
Also, there is a small problem on his neck, but I can't explain it.

I think that Volcaryu is VERY well-done, I can't spot any oddities in it.

Lastly, for Polaryu, he is really great, but the small icicles that appear randomly on his body look awkward on him, and the connection to his body on the left wing (or right in our perspective) is weird, too.

Polaryu also appears to be missing a mouth. I know what you were trying to get at without putting the mouth, but why don't you make one with the mouth and one with it visible (or open), to see what people like?

Well, I can't wait for more sprites by you in the future.

Thanks for commenting. :D

I finally finished Polaryu in a way that I'm decently happy with, after a lot of tinkering:

Basically, I redid the wing shading completely with a whole bunch of dithering, moved the base of the wing and slightly shortened the "forearm" of it, added a visible mouth and shortened the far arm by one pixel, aside from redoing the crystals. I tried a number of things that didn't really look right until I was finally reasonably happy with how this looked.

OMG, that is gorgeous. Only one thing bothers me. I think the wing's flap attached to the body disables it from flying.

...what? You do know that actual bats have wings that are attached all the way down the leg, right? That wing is very detached in comparison. Why would it need to be less attached, anyway? o_O I don't see how this could possibly inhibit flapping.
