Default [Fanfic of the Year 2009 Runner-Up]The Trial of Juno: United in Arms

Author's Note: This is done with Neo Pikachu's permission.

Audio narration:

________________________________________________

In the war-torn world of Kivistal, no story is better known than the tale of the Crimson War and the legacy of the Gold Rider, Juno.

The Silver Rebellion was the only force left opposing the path of conquest woven by the ambitious Crimson Star, and they were failing in their struggle. They looked to a prophecy, which told of the arrival of the Gold Rider in the darkest hour of Kivistal who would end the war, hoping it would come true. Years passed, and the resolve of the Silver Rebellion began to wane...

Then the day came when a Pikachu named Juno appeared on the back of his mount, the Latias named Blazewing. In a single night, he freed prisoners of war from Black Bay Prison, an infamous Crimson Stars facility for POWs.

Juno's immeasurable skill was shown again when he freed the rest of the Crimson Stars' prisoners from the most impenetrable facility in Crimsonland, Macomb, and destroyed much of it in the process.

Throughout the war, Juno stayed loyal to the Silver Rebellion, even when his leaders imprisoned him. It was this unbreakable loyalty that led him to lead a massive assault on Jasandax, the capitol of Crimsonland.

The entire Silver Rebellion, every last soldier, attacked as one, destroying much of the city and taking out many of their enemies, but at heavy prices. Blazewing lost her life in the battle, as well as thousands of Silver Rebellion soldiers. Still, Juno fought on.

Finally, Juno came across the leader of the Crimson Stars, a human named Zander. He murdered Juno's love, a Pikachu named Sita, invoking Juno's wrath. The two had a horrific battle, and, thanks to the prayers and support of his comrades, Juno won the fight, though at the cost of his own life, just as the prophecy said.

The Silver Rebellion was aggrieved at his death, and gave him a glorious send off into the afterlife. He gave them the freedom they had been fighting to gain for so long, so they felt it was the least they could do. They also decided to change their name to the Silver Apex in honor of the freedom granted by Juno’s sacrifice.

The world of Kivistal finally entered a state of peace and recovery after the war, but that, unfortunately, could not last.

The Black Onyx Kingdom, led by the infamous King Skepter, had even greater ambitions for domination, and greater power to back it up. In lightning-quick strikes, the Black Onyx Kingdom's military moved across the continent, defeating and dominating every piece of land they marched into. Soon, their iron curtain fell upon the borders of the Silver Apex.

The Silver Apex, still weak from the Crimson War, stood no chance against the Black Onyx Kingdom, and were forced into hiding underground. They prayed constantly for Juno to deliver freedom unto them once more, but they knew he had died and could not help them again...

Or so they thought.

Even death could not stop Juno's loyalty to the Silver Apex. Hearing the prayers of his brethren, he and Blazewing came back to Kivistal to help what remained of the Silver Apex. However, before they could reach the Silver Apex, the Black Onyx Kingdom captured them.

For months, Juno was ridiculed and made a fool of by Skepter, but he kept his mind sharp and hopeful. This paid off one day, when Juno and his captured allies escaped Monaraca, the capitol of the Black Onyx Kingdom, and sped to the hiding place of the Silver Apex.

They all knew that they could not survive a campaign against the Black Onyx Kingdom as they were, so they decided a mass exodus to a new home where they wouldn't be discovered was what would help them most. Under Juno's leadership, the Silver Apex left Symarix, their capitol, for good.

The Silver Apex moved all together across the continent, aiming for the Azure Islands, where they hoped to meet the Midnight Gemini. When they arrived, however, they discovered that the Midnight Gemini had already fallen before Skepter's will. Instead, they met the Southern Tempest, the remains of nations opposing the Black Onyx Kingdom, who also had left their homes for a safer haven. They welcomed Juno and the Silver Apex among them.

For a time, the Silver Apex and the Southern Tempest rested and recovered, but Skepter's atrocities could not be ignored long. Juno and Aries, the leader of the Southern Tempest, agreed that they must once again take up arms against the Black Onyx Kingdom.

Now, as they prepare to fight again, the world awaits, with bated breath, the battles ahead, and the ones who would shape the very history of the coming war...

Chapter 1: Landon

Rain pattered upon the cold stone as the heavens unleashed their load upon the mountains outside the smoking ruins of Sakieri. The dark sky was unforgiving in its gaze upon the wastelands the war had turned the Faraway Hills into. The Royal Enforcers had done their job and they had done it well.

A Raichu glared at the smoke in the sky from the safety of the hidden cave, his small brown arms crossed. His cheeks sparked with electricity in his anger and sadness. Slung across his back was his MG-40 submachine gun. His Forest Green uniform was ripped in several places, and stained with dried blood in many more. A female Pikachu dressed in a similar uniform approached him from behind and put a paw on his shoulder. “Shirazon, come away and sit by the fire…Landon’s looking a lot better, the bullet in his shoulder really didn’t infect it.”

Shirazon did not move, and his glare deepened. Without looking at her, the Raichu responded. “Sorai…how could this have happened? We fought against the Black Onyx Kingdom for two years and resisted them, we were driving them back…But those Royal Enforcers…they destroyed us in less than a week! I don’t understand it!” He slammed a fist against the cave wall, causing a few pebbles to clatter to the ground. “We thought we were winning…but we were always destined to lose…”

Sorai came up and embraced him softly before stepping to his side and placing a calming paw on his shoulder. “There’s nothing we can do about it anymore, love…I think our only choice would be to leave here…Maybe we could find a home with the Midnight Gemini in the Azure Islands.”

Shirazon sighed. “Maybe…but it will be hard on all of us…Landon, Trais, you, and I. We’ll be put to a hard test to make it to safety…”

Sorai nodded. “We know the risks, but we’ll go to the gates of Utopia itself for freedom and peace, you know that.”

Shirazon chuckled. “Let us hope that we do not have to go that far, my wife.”

Sorai smiled. “There, that’s the Shirazon I know. Now come, we’re about to have dinner around the fire.” With that, she took his paw in her own and led him through the tunnel to the chamber that was their home.

Little remained, since this wasn’t their real home; all their belongings had been left in the cave they lived in, save for the couple boxes of essentials they had. Upon one sat the female Wartortle, Trais. She usually had her orange bandana on her head, and even on that depressing day she did not disappoint. She held her TG-12 semi-automatic machinegun in her lap. On the other sat Shirazon and Sorai’s Pikachu son, Landon.

The hair between his ears was messy, giving it a spiked look, though it was all natural. His face was lively, though it was given a unique look to it by his one-of-a-kind black circles on his cheeks, rather than the red circles seen on every other Pikachu. His shoulder had a clean white bandage on it, obviously just changed. He was staring into the fire, contemplating something, but when he looked up at his parents, his eyes shone, and he stood up. “I’m much better, dad!” he exclaimed, happy to rid Shirazon of worry.

Shirazon smiled at his son. “Good to hear, Landon! Now we’re ready, I think.”

“Ready?” Trais asked, also standing, “Ready to…leave the Faraway Hills?”

Sorai nodded. “Yes, that’s our best option, as you know. We’ll do it under cover of nightfall. But for now, we must wait for the sun to set, so lets get some dinner, shall we?”

“I’ll help!” Landon said enthusiastically; despite being a key part of the fight, along with his family, Landon was still so young, barely entered adolescence, and his attitude and spastic demeanor showed it.

Landon hurried towards the entrance to the cave, where there were some healthy mushrooms growing; they had already decided that would be their final meal before leaving the Faraway Hills, and had saved it for that fact.

He rounded the corner, and was gone from sight.

Sorai laughed. “I always wonder where that boy gets his energy from…He’s always so cheerful when there isn’t any fighting.”

Shirazon smiled and nodded. “Aye, the boy is a never-ending source of optimism.”

They stopped as an explosion suddenly sounded from the entrance, and the cave was wracked with shockwaves. They lost their balance, and fell. Both Sorai and Shirazon got up and stared at each other with wide eyes. “Landon!” the parents cried as one. They ran, Trais joining them, hoping beyond hope that Landon was okay…

When they reached the cave’s entrance, they were met with an awful sight…

Surrounding the entrance was a full contingent of fifteen Royal Enforcers, all sitting atop their Altaria mounts. They all glared down at the three new arrivals, some chuckling for some sick reason, and all pointing their guns at them.

Shirazon could only return the glare, especially when he saw the unharmed Landon struggling in the one-pawed grasp of a Raichu who looked like he was the leader of this large squad. On his back was a large spear, and in hand was a machinegun. He smirked. “Well, well, here we find the last of Skepter’s Most Wanted, all hiding together in some God-forsaken pit. You all should’ve surrendered when you had the chance…” He tossed Landon down to his parents’ feet. “Now you’re all slated for destruction. We’ll give no quarters to any survivors of the Faraway Hills,” he said, complete with a sadistic grin.

Shirazon glared and growled audibly at the Royal Enforcers, his weapon already in paw. Trais similarly had hers risen menacingly, but they did not fire; it would be a death wish to get them to retaliate now. They needed to wait for an opening…

Many of the Royal Enforcers laughed. A Charmeleon with a mechanical arm spoke. “Look, they’re still quite defiant. Listen, it would be better for you to just resign yourself to fate and give it up; you’re going to die anyway, no need to drag it out.”

Shirazon snarled and grabbed at something on his belt. “If I’m gonna die here I’m taking most of you bastards with me!” He tossed a metal ball into a cluster of the Royal Enforcers. They started and began to back off.

The grenade exploded before anyone could react further.

In the confusion, Trais and Shirazon leapt into the fray, weapons ablaze. They instantly cut down three more in addition to those taken out by the grenade, to total fourteen kills, when including the Altaria mounts. Meanwhile, Sorai had taken Landon and the two hid behind a rock jutting out of the cave wall. They shuddered as they listened to the battle ensuing outside.

Shirazon and Trais were a perfect duo in battle, the ultimate partners in a gunfight. They weaved in and out of one another’s path in a deadly dance. Together, they ended the lives of the bulk of the opposing Royal Enforcers, a feat that would be told of in ballads and songs for future generations. However, even they are mortal.

Shots were fired from the side, and Shirazon and Trais fell, shuddering and gasping in pain. However, they picked themselves up, and continued on fighting, though not nearly as gallantly as they could before. They downed another three fighters.

The Raichu leader glared at them. “I’m tired of this. Haika, take the Wartortle. That scum of a Raichu is mine!” A Nuzleaf nodded and flew off. With that, he pulled his spear from his back and urged his Altaria forward. The two flew forward, right behind Shirazon, unnoticed by the warrior.

He wasn’t totally unnoticed.

“Dad, look out!” Landon yelled at the top of his lungs from his hiding place. Shirazon turned to look…and was impaled through his chest by the spear.

“Noooo! Shirazon!” Sorai screamed, her heart in pain at the sight.

Shirazon was slammed into the rock wall opposite the cave. The Raichu holding the spear grinned darkly. “You’ve been a thorn in the side of the Black Onyx Kingdom for far too long. Die!” He twisted the spear harshly, and Shirazon was no more.

“Shirazon!” Trais yelled, running at the murderous Raichu. She was out of ammo, and now wielded a short sword. Her eyes spoke death to the killer of her best friend…

But Haika was faster. He drew his own sword and leapt off his Altaria in front of her. She was surprised at his appearance, and therefore could not react in time. Haika slashed her middle and cut her in half, shell and flesh rent by the vicious blow.

She fell without a sound, blood pooling around her two halves. Haika smirked and sheathed his sword before calling his Altaria down to get back on. “That is the last we’ll see of those cretins, Captain Inirid,” he growled as he climbed up.

Inirid laughed. “Nicely done, Haika. Now, all that leaves is-“ Shots rang out, and Haika and his Altaria were killed. Inirid blinked, then looked to the source. “So, decided to come out of hiding, did you?”

Landon and his mother stood there, weapons pointed at Inirid and his one remaining soldier, his Marowak second-in-command, who was in the air. Tears poured down their faces, but no sobs drifted from their lips, nor did they dare close their eyes. Only a cold fury was shown, rage at the murderous Royal Enforcers.

With a blood-curdling scream, they charged, weapons firing. Inirid and his Altaria took flight to avoid the bullets, but he had an idea. “Jun, you’re up!”

The Marowak nodded and took out his Bonemerang. The sharpened edge gleamed in the light as he licked it evilly. Nudging his Altaria’s sides, they dove. Using the speed to his advantage, he flung his deadly weapon at the charging Pikachus.

Sorai never had a chance.

With a sickening slicing sound, Sorai was beheaded mid-rush, her body falling to the ground in a tumble as the Bonemerang did what it was made for. Landon, with wide, unbelieving eyes, barely had enough sense to duck under its path…but he was only so fortunate. The Bonemerang cut his left eye, ruining it forever. The force of the blow threw Landon back, even if it was a small, glancing one. Staggering, Landon dropped his machinegun. Despite the pain, he still walked towards his enemies, slowly. Blood dripped from him greatly.

“You little fool,” Jun growled, “You’re a dead Pokemon, and you still are defiant.” His Bonemerang made its return trip, and sliced Landon’s left eye a second time, created an x cut right over his eye. Landon couldn’t hold himself up anymore, and fell.

Shrieks of pain and screams of suffering bellowed from Landon’s mouth. He was hurt, his parents were dead…everything they had fought for, gone. His left eye would no longer have any use, and he would soon join his family.

Inirid narrowed his eyes. “My, you are stubborn…We could use a soldier such as you. King Skepter would be pleased to have a soldier like you in his ranks, even if he has to torture you into submission!” He and his Altaria flew forward until they were right above him. “At the very least you’ll make a perfect slave.”

Something in Landon clicked…anger, rage, and fury all erupted out of him. In a single incredible Thunder, Landon attacked Inirid and his Altaria. They couldn’t even scream at the force of the electricity running through them. Within a few seconds, they had been blackened, burned to death by the power of the attack. Landon got up and yelled to the sky above.

Jun and his mount were absolutely stunned; just who was this Pikachu? Before they could ponder or retaliate, Landon grabbed the still smoking spear from the Raichu’s dead body and displayed the awesome speed of his Agility, rushing forward in a split second to shove the spear through both the Altaria and the Marowak.

All three collapsed, two dead, one in ultimate suffering…

~***~

Landon’s eye snapped open as he gazed at the wooden roof of his barracks. Groaning, he sat up in his bed and rubbed his aching head. “Dammit, I hate that dream…” he whispered to himself.

“It was your family, wasn’t it…?” The Staraptor at the base of his bed said. He raised his feathered head to gaze at his rider.

Landon looked to him. “You know me too well, Sivaris. How long have you been awake?”

“About an hour; you’ve been shaking and turning nearly the entire time,” he explained. “Zhunjai will want to know, Landon.”

The Pikachu shook his head and touched a paw to his left eye, feeling the cross-shaped scar. “I don’t want to worry her; it was just a simple nightmare, that’s a-“

“No, Landon,” Sivaris interrupted. “She saved your life after that, three years ago, you know she’d want to know about this.”

Landon sighed in defeat. “Fine, fine…in the morning, I’ll tell her.” With that, he rolled over to try and fall back asleep.

Sivaris narrowed his eyes, but laid his head underneath his wing again. “Trying to avoid it, I see…We both know the mission starts early in the morning…” he whispered to himself.

Sleepy silence once again stole over the barracks…

Awesome beginning, the idea of having Landon's past covered by a dream was a brilliant idea. Its sad, but it brings out the grim reality of how harsh the war truly is.

And yes, glad to see this is finally alive and kicking! Keep it up, amigo, this one I really want to see make it to the end.

Wow Shen, that's a great start!
The ferocity of that battle was incredible...and awful too.
I so can't wait to see more. ^^

YES! Nice opening, by the way. The 'tragic dream' concept has been used a few times, but you did it pretty well here~

It's here! =D

Me being evil, though, I have to nitpick at your typos. D:
Quote:
Juno's immeasurable skill was show again
Show should be shown, of course.
Quote:
His shoulder had a clean white bandage on it, obviously just cleaned and changed
Hmm...maybe it's just me, but using "clean" twice in a sentence is a little distracting. You know, the whole flow-breaking thing and all.
Quote:
She held her TG-12 Semi-Automatic machine Gun in her lap.
Is gun supposed to be capitalized? I'm actually not sure if this is a mistake or not, since I dunno that much about weaponry, but I figured I should point it out and be annoying anyway. :D
Quote:
Within a few seconds, they had been blacked, burned to death by the power of the attack.
I think blacked is supposed to be blackened.

Stupid nitpicking aside...DAMN. You've got some brutally gory description going on in that battle scene. I could basically picture everything. It would improve your writing to describe the smells and other senses in a bit more detail; sight may be the most vivid description, but describing the disgusting smell of charred, smoldering flesh, the sharp taste in the air of blood, and whatever else you may want to add really improves the image of the scene. :3

Write more! I really wanna see what you can do with this RP and your pwnsome writing ability. 8D

Haha, awesome! Thanks for the kind words, guys.

And thank you, Larvi, for finding those mistakes for me to correct. Honestly, that's the kind of review I like best, one that finds these mistakes I seem to make every time, and helps me correct them. *huggles* You rock :3

The next chapter will come as soon as I can get it, guys. As for you fans of Reflections and Solar Destiny, I plan on continuing those as well, have no fear. I'll be busy most of the time, of course, so don't expect many updates over a short amount of time .

All the hype is justified, then. xP

But yes, as always you have a very good writing style that can become extremely good. It's just a bit, halting and places, and again, my usual nitpicking about the characters all talking alike.

Other than that, bravo.

Chapter 2: Mission

It’s been three months now…

Juno looked at the map of Kivistal, staring at the place where the Silver Apex once lived. He sighed, longing for a time when they could live in peace again, but as it was now, it was impossible. The Black Onyx Kingdom was a scourge to peace, a bane of happiness…and had to be removed before either could be possible again.

It had been three months since the evacuation of the Silver Apex. Getting everything back together was still on his mind, but Juno knew they were running out of time too. The only reason why the Silver Apex and Southern Tempest hadn’t been found yet was because the Black Onyx thought they were already dead, and that the Midnight Gemini, the ones that were killed here before they arrived, were the only ones that would ever live here. The objective now was to make sure they made it through without being found out. We still could do something out there, even if Aries doesn’t think so.

Aries, the Sceptile that led the Southern Tempest, was still very skeptical about this matter. He felt that they should forget about the Black Onyx Kingdom and try and live out their days in peace, but Juno was of a different mind. He knew Skepter wouldn’t rest until he had his corpse lying at his feet…and he would kill everyone who was with Juno. So, the only logical solution was to try and destroy the Black Onyx Kingdom, one little baby step at a time…

Juno had gathered a few Pokemon, all of them Captains, in a grass hut that was usually used for Southern Tempest councils. On one of the walls, he had pinned a map, as well as a few plans on an old, wooden table regarding our next moves into this. The map they had was pretty outdated, and had a lot of scribbles on it of new locations to compensate for its age, as well as drawn plans and methods of possible attack. The landscape hadn’t changed too much either, but the scouts that were being sent out were still bringing back intelligence that confirmed the scenery wasn’t looking too good either.

“You’re… not serious about restarting this war, Juno, are you?” One Storm Rider Breloom asked, standing besides his restless Pidgeot, “Aries told me we’re keeping quiet to make sure they don’t find us.”

“Problem is…” Juno told the group as a whole, referring to the map, “They will eventually. That’s why we need to keep them busy with something else. Covert operations, take out their hard targets in Crescent Moon, and try to cause social unrest in Shale Ridge.”

A lot of them seemed pretty confused, but Juno tried to get past that point. His whole reasoning for this was, if they didn’t keep the Black Onyx distracted with these attacks and maybe even try to keep them in a weakened state, they would be taking a big risk. But here, they had to go undercover. The time for full-fledged assaults was over, they definitely didn’t have a big enough army for anything like that to happen.

“Juno, what exactly do you mean by ‘hard targets?’” one Aipom looked at him in question. “Also, we just don’t have enough of an army to fight back…”

“We make teams.” Juno responded, pointing to the map again. “We’re not attacking their army, we’re attacking their resources so their army can’t fight as well. Such as taking out their plants in Crescent Moon, making plans of sleeper cells in Shale Ridge to cause a new rebellion there, and others…can search the fallen cities looking for supplies or…maybe even survivors. We need everyone and everything we can get.”

Juno’s hopes on the survivors were doubtful, but he knew it was possible the Black Onyx missed a few places. Kivistal was a massive world after all. It was doubtful they searched every nook and cranny of this world…

“So, where are you heading first, Juno?” one of the Southern Tempest Quilava asked. “What do you think is probably the most important area for you to hit?”

“Our teams will be splitting up, but my team and I will be attacking a convoy one of my spies has seen. They’ll most likely have some new weaponry we should study, to gain an upper hand on the Black Onyx,” Juno told him, laying his plan out. “We need spy teams, and other attack teams. Meanwhile, I want an entirely separate team made to go look for survivors in places like the Silver Apex’s old country. We need all the help we can get, and the longer we wait, the less of a chance we have at finding them before the Black Onyx does.”

And soon. Right now, they needed all the help they could get. Juno had already made plans to head out tomorrow with four others in his team, but he still hadn’t picked anyone for those positions yet. And he knew their chances of running into Royal Enforcers or other Black Onyx officers was likely, but they just needed to take them out before the tables were turned.

So, the few Captains that Juno had gathered began getting their team rosters together, making plans of how they could best help the plan. Meanwhile, Juno was in the corner, looking through the roster of members of both the Silver Apex and Southern Tempest, trying best to decide whom to bring. Blazewing was by his side, helping where she could. It wasn’t going well. They took half an hour to decide on three members, but finding a fourth one was a little hard to decide…

“Juno, you’re absolutely certain this is the only way…?” a voice said behind Juno. He turned to gaze upon Aries, who returned it with a hard gaze of his own.

The Pikachu nodded. “Unless we want to sit around until they find us, we have to strike first. It’s our best shot, Aries…”

The Sceptile sighed in defeat, before a smile grew on his lips. “Then may I make a suggestion for your fifth Team member?”

“Sure, why not?” Juno said with his own smile.

Aries looked over his shoulder. “Captain Landon, on the double!”

Juno watched as a Pikachu conversing with other Captains raised his head and snapped to attention, before nodding and running over to the Sceptile. When he reached them, he stood at attention and saluted Aries. “You wish to see me, sir?”

“Yes, Landon, I believe you would be the perfect candidate to go on a convoy raid with Commander Juno here,” Aries explained, indicating the Pikachu behind him. He then faced Juno. “Well, what do you say, my friend?”

Juno walked up to Landon, who continued to stand perfectly straight and still. He’s so young, was the first thought that came to Juno’s mind. Juno caught sight of his left eye, which was ruined and closed by an x-shaped scar. His remaining eye, however, had a great spark in it…His loss of an eye did not deter Landon from the path he chose.

“That look in your eye…” Juno said mysteriously. If Landon was confused or worried, he did not show it. Juno nodded, as if deciding something. “It’s settled then. Landon, you’ll be riding with my group later today.”

Landon smiled a little, but then took on a passive face again and saluted Juno. “I am honored, sir.”

“Go prepare yourself, Landon, we leave in a half hour,” Juno instructed.

Landon nodded and dropped the salute. After conducting an about face, he ran off outside to meet up with his Staraptor.

Juno looked to Aries. “You must be very strict on him, Aries, he’s so stiff.”

Aries winked. “Only when he’s on duty around superiors. When he’s on his own time, or even on a mission…well, you’ll see.”

Juno could only nod. “Well, I better go; Blazewing and I have a bit of preparing to do of our own.” With that, he beckoned his Latias friend to follow, and the two exited the hut together.

An hour later, Juno was awaiting his team with Blazewing as the sun was about to rise. His weapon, a GN-KAL assault rifle, was set in the special case strapped to Blazewing’s side. Maura, a Weavile, joined him. Her mount was a Latios named Zeb, which was a unique fact on its own…but the two never got along. They were either apart, or arguing about something stupid. Currently, they were keeping apart and silent, which was probably for the better now. On Juno’s other side was an Electivire named Dehn. He was cocky, wearing an uncomfortably smug air around him. He reminded Juno of a certain Charmeleon during the attack on Macomb…

Now all they had to wait on was a Wartortle named Faering, and Landon. Faering was the demolitions expert, so she had more equipment to get together. However, it was unclear what was keeping Landon…

Finally, Juno saw Landon and Faering run out from behind a hut together and bolt over to the rest of them. Above, a laden Pidgeot and Landon’s Staraptor flew overhead. Landon and Faering skidded to a halt and stood at attention, saluting Juno again. Juno forgave them for almost being late, as he decided to do either way, and had everyone climb aboard their respective mounts.

As the sun peeked above the horizon, all five took off for the objective on Conda.

In silence, the five riders rose into the sky, using the thermals to climb higher and higher, and the wind to fly ever faster towards their goal. In everyone’s minds, they carefully went over the plans. First, Faering would set up explosive charges along the road the caravan was scheduled to ride through. After they were set up, Juno and Dehn would hide in front to await the caravan, while Landon, Faering and Maura would take positions behind. After Faering detonated the charges and the caravan sent into confusion, both teams would converge and wipe them out. If any survivors were to get away, it would fall on Faering, who’s Pidgeot was the fastest flyer, to go after them and take them out. Providing no one was stupid or careless, the plan should go off without a hitch.

Curious about Aries’ hint before, Juno had Blazewing fall back to fly by Landon and Sivaris. Landon looked nervous as Juno approached. Juno noticed this. “Landon, relax. You’re a little too stiff for a Pikachu your age.”

Landon visibly slumped forward, definitely relieved. “Dude, you’ve no idea how happy I am to hear you say that, sir,” he said breathily.

Juno chuckled. “Aries is tough on you, isn’t he?”

Landon nodded. “It sucks sometimes, but I guess he should be; I’m still kinda young, after all. His rules kept me in line. I’ve followed them ever since, even when he says I can relax.” He faced Juno and smiled, closing his eye. “Habits are hard to stop, you know.”

“I hear ya there, Landon,” Juno replied with a smile. “Um…if you don’t mind me asking, why’d you join that militaristic group at such a young age…?”

Landon’s expression darkened a little. “Because I was involved in the war in the Faraway Hills…I’m the only survivor.”

Juno was taken aback. “Ah, man…I-I’m sorry, I didn’t mean…”

Landon’s smile returned. “S’okay, I don’t mind. You’re not the first to ask, though usually everyone asks about my eye. This is my relic of that nightmarish week the Royal Enforcers hounded the nation…but, it’s also a reminder of the Sandshrew who saved my life after I left.” He chuckled nervously. “That’s why I was late, by the way, I had to say goodbye to Zhunjai…”

Juno noticed the look on Landon’s face as he said that name, and smiled to himself…It reminded him of himself, when he thought of his love. Sita…

The atmosphere among the group was less stifling, and the trip felt that much smoother and faster thereafter. For three hours the group rode, growing more and more restless to deal a blow to the Black Onyx Kingdom.

Finally, as the sun drifted through the midmorning sky, the group reached Conda, and quickly flew down to the dusty ground below. Puffs of loose dirt poofed up from the ground as each bird Pokemon landed behind a huge rock beside the target road, and again as the Riders dismounted. With a signal from Juno, Landon and Maura had flown to the point they were assigned to await the caravan, and Faering crept out to the road, looking up and down the road to make sure there wasn’t anyone coming their way. When she confirmed there was no one for miles, she quickly stepped out onto the road and called for her Pidgeot. Gathering her equipment from the avian Pokemon, she set about placing her mines all along the road for twenty feet in either direction.

It took about an hour, but Faering completed her task as quickly as possible. And not a moment too soon; she had noticed a blotch of figures coming closer, obviously the caravan. She got on her Pidgeot and flew a long route around, to avoid being seen as she took position with Landon and Maura. Juno and Dehn hopped on their mounts, and pulled out their weapons. Now, all there was to it was to play the waiting game.

For ten agonizing minutes, the caravan rumbled down the road. Landon watched them from his hidden position, and his gaze narrowed. They’ve got Royal Enforcer protection…He gripped his SK-7TR submachine gun a little harder, resisting the temptation to lash out at them prematurely. Oh, how he wished he could bring justice to them, those murderous bastards…

Faering’s eyes followed the caravan closely as they approached the correct position, her hand tightening on the detonator in anticipation. Come on already…Just a little farther…she thought furiously.

Finally…the Caravan crossed the threshold. Faering’s eyes flashed, and her thumb slammed down on the button.

An explosion rent the air, and on that signal, Juno, Dehn, Maura, and Landon all flew out to engage the remaining enemies.

First comment! The amount of ellipses is a little disconcerting. And there needs to be a space after them as with other punctuation.

Other than that, it's an excellent chapter, though I suspect you could do better. I guess that's the problem with character-intro chapters neh?

Ah, at last.

Description was very good, and you've got Juno's character down perfectly. Meanwhile, Landon is just how I remember him from the ToJ RP. Man, it feels so good and nostalgic to relive all these great moments once again.

Keep it going strong, amigo.

Another nice chapter Shen! ^^
I'm always interested in new characters, and how utterly different their personalities can be. Like the Weavile and Latios who don't get along.

Found a couple little mistakes for you to kill.

On one of the walls, e had pinned a map, as well as a few plans on an old, wooden table regarding our next moves into this.
You forgot the h in "he" and shouldn't it be "their next moves"?

Sorry, just had to point this out. You used drifted three times on the same line. ^^'
