Special Features

New Character
You are not using Ash anymore, you're using another trainer. And your professor's name is Professor Elm. Later in the game, you get to meet Ash, Gary, Professor Oak, Ash's Mom, and some other important individuals.

New Pokemon
There is 251 Pokemon in Gold/Silver. You can catch 221 Pokemon on your own. The two Pokemon that will always won't be caught is Mew and Celebi. You can get those two special Pokemon from a Nintendo Official in Pokemon mall tours.

New Types
There will be two new types of Pokemon, Steel and Dark.

Male and Female
There's Nidoran male and Nidoran female right? Well almost all Pokemon will be that way. I say almost all because special Pokemon like Lugia and Ho-oh will not have a gender. All Pokemon either male or female will have the same number, except for Nidoran.

Backpack
The backpack is separated into 4 pockets. A backpack section for Pokeballs, items, TM's and HM's, and important items. This way finding stuff in your backpack will be much easier.

Pokegear
It is a series of important stuff, all of them are just called Pokegear. The Pokegear contains a phone which you can call the professor, your mother, and other trainers you meet along your journey. And its not only you can make the call, the other side can call you too. There is also a map and a clock. And a radio that lets you listen (well, you actually see the words) to Pokemon news, Lottery numbers, and other stuff as well.

New Evolutions
Chansey, Scyther, Onix, Slowbro, and some others will evolve in the Gold/Silver versions. There is also something called a pre-evolution. There is a Pokemon called Pichu who later evolves into Pikachu. There are many of those as well.

New Pokedex
In the newly designed Pokedex, you can sort Pokemon listings by number, type, and alphabetically. You can also search Pokemon. For example, if you want a list of Pokemon that is Grass and Poison type, just input the data and a list will come out. Another helpful feature is that when wild Pokemon come up, there will be a picture of a Pokeball next to the wild Pokemon's name indicating that you already captured it.

New Stat Screen
The stat screen will be separated into three pages. On the first page it has your Pokemon's HP, and experience stats. The second page has your Pokemon's attacks and how much PP's each attack has. The third page will have your Pokemon's ID number, original trainer, and the Pokemon Stats.

Clock
Not like other version of Pokemon, Gold/Silver will have a clock telling you what time it is in the Pokemon World. When it gets late, outside will get dark just like real life. Some Pokemon can only be found in certain times. Some Pokemon can only be found during the night, and some Pokemon can only be found during the day time. A know a Pokemon in Gold/Silver that can only be evolved during the night.

Rival
Your rival might be more meaner than Gary. He steals a Pokemon from the professor!

New Cities
There will be a totally different place with different cities. Once you defeated all the gym leaders from that map, you go to the original map where Brock and Misty is. Koga, who used to be a gym leader, is now in the Elite 4.

Trading Evolution
Well, to make things even more tougher, trading some Pokemon will cause it to evolve. But in Gold/Silver you must attack a certain item to the Pokemon to make it evolve during the trading process. You must know the correct item to attach on to it or it won't evolve at all. Some Pokemon can't be found in either Gold or Silver, so you will have to trade some Pokemon from Red, Blue, and yellow as well.

Second Floor of Pokemon Center
In Pokemon Centers, there is a second floor. There you can link to another Game Boy and battle. And there is also a new thing there, the Time Machine. The Time Machine allows you to trade Pokemon from Red, Blue, or Yellow to your Gold/Silver game.

Eggs
There will be a place where you can breed two Pokemon at one time using a female and male Pokemon. If they are compatible with each other, you will get an egg from them. For example, I put a female Scyther with a male Pinsir to breed. The Pokemon that will hatch from the egg will the female Pokemon (which is Scyther) and it will have attacks just like the male Pokemon (Pinsir) and it might also learn some attacks that are very special (not necessarily powerful) which can only learned through breeding. Some Pokemon hatching out of eggs will be Pre-Evolution Pokemon.
