A New Mysterious Pokemon! – 08/24/02

A popular gaming magazine in Japan, Coro Coro, has a stunning new image of a never been seen Pokemon. The interesting thing about this Pokemon is that it does fit the qualities what a legendary Pokemon would be. Some say it may be Pokemon #351. Joining the ranks with Mew and Celebi? We don’t know for sure. It looks like a bird, but very human like structured body. A fiery blaze can be seen near it’s hands, which may mean it’s a fire type. A flying and fire type maybe? As for my opinion on this, this Pokemon may be one of three legendary Pokemon. For Pokemon 1-151, we had three legendary birds. For Pokemon 152-251, we had the three legendary dogs. When I look at this Pokemon, I’m thinking just that, maybe its one of three legendary Pokemon. The new Pokemon from 252-351 will probably bring another trio of legendary Pokemon if the pattern continues, as well as a “special” Pokemon like Mew and Celebi. I can’t imagine this new Pokemon being number 351, I have a much more easier time imagining it being one of three legendary Pokemon though. We’ll just have to wait and see.

New TCG Set “Expedition” To Be Released! – 08/24/02

While we’re still anxiously waiting for the arrival of Pokemon Ruby and Pokemon Sapphire, some other things are coming much more sooner. The upcoming new TCG set, Expedition, will be released on the same day the e-Reader will be released, September 16. Expedition will be the first set that has the “e-Reader codes” on them, meaning, the Expedition cards are compatible with e-Reader. e-Reader reads markings on the cards, that will create mini games, images, or text, using Gameboy Advance. Expedition is expected to have a total of 165 cards, it would make it the hugest TCG set released in the US. However, there is no official word on the exact number of cards in the set, the number expected is based on the same set released in Japan. One thing is certain though, booster packs now contain only 9 cards, it use to be 11, which means a loss of 2 cards a pack. Just to make it clear, these cards are usable in the TCG, but can also be used for the e-Reader. Also, if you go the official Pokemon online store at www.pokemoncenter.com now, you’ll be able to get your Expedition booster packs shipped on September 1, which is before the general release date of September 16.

TCG World Championship Has Ended! – 08/09/02

The Trading Card Game World Championships came to end over the weekend. The final event was when all players were eliminated except only 8 players left standing in both age groups, 11 to 14, 10 and under. Need less to say, the final event with the 8 players left on both age groups attracted a large crowd, the crowd surrounded the couple of tables where the players battled. In the 11 to 14 bracket, Austin Dylan became the champion. In the 10 and under bracket, Mindy Lambkee, the only female out of the 8 players left, became the champion.  Although there wasn’t a 15 or older bracket in the tournament, many above that age still showed up just to play for fun. Of course, the game is not just for kids, many in their 20’s, 30’s, and beyond can be seen playing the trading card game at the event. Many traveled far away to get to this event, and it was a very successful turn out. Congratulations to our champions!

TV Guide's "50 Greatest Cartoon Characters of All Time" - 08/05/02

Of course, a Pokemon made the list. And of course, that Pokemon is Pikachu. TV Guide published it’s "50 Greatest Cartoon Characters of All Time.” Keep in mind, that it is the character, not the cartoon itself. Not surprisingly, Bugs Bunny captured the #1 spot, and then Homer Simpson, Rocky and Bullwinkle, Beavis and Butt-head, and the Grinch. Pikachu earned a respectable #15. Pikachu and Speed Racer were the only anime characters on the list. Some of my thoughts: I think Mickey Mouse should have at least made the top 5, I think it should have made 2nd, it came in 19th. Mickey Mouse only revolutionized how cartoon animation was done in the US, come on now, it deserves a higher spot. SpongeBob SquarePants came in 9th, you must be kidding me. I would be surprised if it made the list, let alone being on the top 10 and beating out the classic Mickey Mouse. For you Superman and Batman fans out there, Superman barely won this battle, it came at #39, with Batman at #40. Finishing the list is Tom and Jerry at #50. The complete list:

1. Bugs Bunny, 2. Homer Simpson, 3. Rocky and Bullwinkle, 4. Beavis and Butt-head, 5. The Grinch, 6. Fred and Barney, 7. Angelica Pickles, 8. Charlie Brown and Snoopy, 9. SpongeBob SquarePants, 10. Cartman, 11. Bart and Lisa Simpson, 12. Fat Albert, 13. The Powerpuff Girls, 14. Daffy Duck, 15. Pikachu, 16. Gumby, 17. Betty Boop, 18. Top Cat, 19. Mickey Mouse, 20. Popeye, 21. Gerald McBoing-Boing, 22. Scooby-Doo, 23. Underdog, 24. Josie and the Pussycats, 25. Heckle and Jeckle, 26. Arthur, 27. Winnie the Pooh, 28. Felix the Cat, 29. Mr. Magoo, 30. George of the Jungle, 31. Ren and Stimpy, 32. Tom Terrific, 33. Tweety and Sylvester, 34. Bill, 35. Space Ghost, 36. Yogi Bear and Boo Boo, 37. Mighty Mouse , 38. Wile E. Coyote and Road Runner, 39. Superman, 40. Batman, 41. Daria, 42. Wonder Woman, 43. Donald Duck, 44. Alvin, 45. Boris Badenov and Natasha Fatale, 46. Woody Woodpecker, 47. Porky Pig, 48. Bobby Hill, 49. Speed Racer, 50. Tom and Jerry.

Another Sceenshot, It’s Raining! – 08/05/02

With so many screenshots of the Pokemon Ruby and Pokemon Sapphire already, there was enough evidence to prove there will be a weather factor in the game. Well, here’s another screenshot of the game, coming straight from the commercial in Japan. In the screenshot, you’ll see its raining. In past screenshots, we have seen fog and puddles of water (which may mean it has rained). Whether or not the weather affects battle is unknown. It’s a nice effect, gives the game a more realistic feel to it...

Some New Screen Shots and Pokemon! – 08/02/02

Well, news these days will always revolve around upcoming Pokemon game, Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire. Keep in mind that when I use Pokemon names, they are the Japanese names, no official English names yet for most of these new Pokemon. Here I got two screen shot pictures of the Ruby/Sapphire game. One is Samehader (shark) battling Pochena (grayish dog), the other is Samehader again, battling Subame (bird). With Pokemon Festa going on in Japan, some new Pokemon were seen, Pochena and Samehader made their debut at Pokemon Festa. Another Pokemon that was spotted at Pokemon Festa was Jiguzaguma, which looks like a raccoon to me. It seems that no more new Pokemon will come from Pokemon Festa. The demo versions of Ruby/Sapphire only limit the player to use and see certain Pokemon that we have already discovered. Pokemon Festa will come to an end on August 11, at Kitayushu, Japan...
