An Exclusive Look at the Pokemon Official Magazine!

-09/28/04-

It's the world's first official Pokemon magazine, and it will be available in the UK on October 1st, 2004. The magazine will be published quarterly and is priced at Ł3.99.

The launch issue of the Pokemon Official Magazine will feature 92 pages on everything Pokemon. Three free gifts will be included with the magazine: 6 Pokemon fridge magnets, a double sided Pokemon mega poster, and a 3D Charmander model.

Editor Tim Street of Pokemon Official Magazine, who is also the editor of the popular Nintendo Official Magazine, had this to say:

"There has never been a better time to launch this title; fans have demanded it for years, ever since the very first Pokemon phenomenon swept the globe at the turn of the millennium. The appetite for Pokemon has never waned - just look at the amazing sales success of the Pokemon Ruby & Sapphire Game Boy Advance titles last year."

Pokemon Ruby and Pokemon Sapphire sold 3.3 million units in Europe last year, clearly showing the strength of Pokemon even to this day.

The magazine is released on the same date of the launch of Pokemon FireRed and Pokemon LeafGreen in the UK, on October 1st.

*A special thanks to Tim Street, editor of Pokemon Official Magazine, who provided Pokemon Elite 2000 the information and images for this news story.

Nintendo DS in November!

-09/23/04-

The next Nintendo handheld console, the Nintendo DS, will be released in the US on November 21st, 2004. Japan will get Nintendo DS soon after that, on December 2nd, 2004. No surprise here, as Nintendo hopes that the holiday season will bring many sales to it's new handheld. Europe/Australia is expected to have a release date of early 2005. The retail price for the US is $149.99.

A Pokemon game on the Nintendo DS is inevitable, in fact, we already had confirmation from Pokemon game makers that they're working on a Pokemon game for Nintendo DS (any new updates about that will be posted here in the news).

For those that don't know, the Nintendo DS uses two separate screens to play games. There's many advantages to this, for example, instead of having a map (such as race course maps in racing games) on the top right corner or whatever, it can be on a seperate screen so it doesn't clog up the screen. But you can expect game makers to create many different way to use the dual screen feature.

Why Pokemon Still Reigns!

-09/23/04-

An article was written at The Sydney Morning Herald, titled "Why Pokemon Still Reigns." It's an interesting article, which goes into the history of Pokemon and to the present time. You can read the article here: Why Pokemon Still Reigns

Jason Hill, who wrote the article, seems to be pretty familiar with the game, saying that "The battle system is simple to learn yet incredibly complex." That's something many people don't understand if they haven't played the games. Yes, it's simple to learn and even kids play it, but it can get very complex when you get into the strategies of battling.

Pokemon FireRed and Pokemon LeafGreen Released!

You can now get your hands on Pokemon FireRed and Pokemon LeafGreen, the newest Pokemon games for GBA/GBA SP. The retail price for each game is $39.99. Each game comes with a Wireless Adapter, which allows players to enter multiplayer feature without using any cables.

Pokemon FireRed and Pokemon LeafGreen is expected, as always, to be big sellers. Pokemon Ruby and Pokemon Sapphire finished the 2003 year as being the #2 and #3 best selling game in the US.

*Note: There might be some confusion over the release date. The original scheduled release date is September 9th, however, it was later changed to September 7th. The release is today, but you may find stores that won't have the game until the 8th or the 9th. But at the latest, you should be able to find FireRed/LeafGreen at the 9th at almost all stores that carries games (EDIT: some stores may not have the game even on the 9th, so contact your store to see if they have it in stock).

Benefits of Pokemon Games!

-09/07/04-

With the release of Pokemon FireRed and Pokemon LeafGreen today, Nintendo has also released a study about the benefits of the Pokemon games. A survey of 2,098 parents was done by the Impulse Research Corp. of Los Angeles. Those surveyed are members of the CyberPulse Advisory Panel.

The results of the survey (also shown in image above), show the percent of parents that believe in the certain benefits of Pokemon games:

77% - enhances strategic thinking

76% - promotes positive values

68% - improves memory skills

60% - increases mental agility and awareness

These numbers mean that a lot of parents believe there are benefits of the Pokemon games and this news definitely makes Nintendo proud.
