Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade: Pikachu Balloon Pictures! -11/23/06- |

It's a rainy day at New York City, but that won't stop the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Due to weather conditions, the balloons were flying lower than usual, but the balloons did fly. That includes the new Pikachu Balloon (as seen in the pictures above). The new balloon features Pikachu chasing after a Poke Ball, and Pikachu's cheeks also light up. The new Pikachu balloon is 53.5 feet high, 36.9 feet wide, 40.8 feet long, and filled with 15,000 cubic feet of helium. This is the sixth year that the Pikachu balloon has been part of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. NBC Commentary During Pikachu Balloon Matt Lauer: In celebration of it's 10th anniversary, Pokemon USA introduces the brand new balloon, Pikachu. The most recognized character of more than 380 in the Pokemon universe. Meredith Vieira: Pikachu is an electric type Pokemon that can store electricity in it's cheeks. Today Pikachu's cheeks light up flying as this year's only high voltage big balloon. Al Roker: Pikachu flies through the air just behind a Poke Ball. Most Pokemon live inside one, but Pikachu prefers life on the outside. Where he can lend a helping hand to his loyal companion, Ash, when the going gets tough. Matt Lauer: You know only one foot four on TV, today Pikachu's electrifying. Cruising the skies at twice the height of a tyrannosaurus rex. ----- Related Links Official Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade Website: http://www1.macys.com/campaign/parade/parade.jsp | [Questions and Comments on This News Story]

Tallahassee Democrat: Pokemon Sleeper Cell Comes Alive!
-11/12/06- |
The Tallahassee Democrat's staff writer, Mark Hinson, got a crash course
in Pokemon thanks to his 7-year-old nephew, Hub Cub.
Pokemon: Sleeper Cell Comes Alive (by Mark Hinson):
The other night I dreamed a Squirtle and a Wartortle were chasing me
down a flooded drainage ditch on Franklin Boulevard. Things went from
bad to worse when a humongous Cloyster popped up out of a manhole. Just
in the nick of time, a brilliant yellow, flying Jirachi awakened from
its sleep of 1,000 years and granted me my wish to fly away.
No, I have not been drinking the stinky, fermented water from the vase
of two-week-old gladiolus. I've been hanging out with 7-year-old nephew,
Hub Cub, whose latest obsession is the Japanese animated cartoon
"Pokemon." - To read the full
