Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescuer's Guide (Click to Enlarge)

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon is available in two versions, Blue Rescue Team for the DS and Red Rescue Team for the GBA. I got an early copy of the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team, so that's what I'll be going over. The Red Rescue Team for the GBA is pretty much the same game, but it's for the GBA, and obviously lacking the extra screen the DS version has. If you pre-ordered the game, then you also get the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescuer's Guide. If you missed out on that, you can still get the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Player's Guide from Nintendo Power, or the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Official Strategy Guide from Prima.

I played the full version of this during the Party of the Decade event for several hours (you can read more about that here: Party of the Decade - Page 4). So I'm quite familiar with the game already, and you should be too if you read that article on Party of the Decade. To start the game, you have to go through a personality test which will determine the Pokemon you'll be to start the game. The possible options for male trainers are: Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Pikachu, Meowth, Psyduck, Machop, Cubone, Cyndaquil, Totodile, Torchic, Treecko and Mudkip. The possible options for female trainers is slightly different, it's the same 13 options as male trainers, except instead of Meowth, Machop, and Cyndaquil, the possible three changes are Eevee, Chikorita, and Skitty. As your partner, you can choose from: Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Chikorita, Cyndaquil, Totodile, Treecko, Torchic, Mudkip, and Pikachu. You can't choose a partner Pokemon that is the same type as your Pokemon though.

My favorite Pokemon is a Psyduck, so that's what I was shooting for. I did honestly answer the questions during the Party of the Decade event, and I ended up with a Charmander. So it's clear my personality is nothing like a Psyduck. So instead of answering how I would answer the questions, I answered the questions how Psyduck would answer the questions. Sure enough, after a few attempts (you can start over by restarting the game), I came out with a Psyduck. Psyduck is a silly and carefree Pokemon, so that's how I tried to answer the questions. When I played it the first time, I didn't mind that I got a Charmander because that reflected on my personality. It was a tough choice, but I wanted to play as Psyduck more.

So again, read the what I wrote at the Party of the Decade event: Party of the Decade - Page 4, and you should get a good feeling on what the game is about.

Here's some official key information on the game:

Key Information:

- For the first time ever, the player is a Pokemon, speaking and interacting with other characters in a world populated only by Pokemon.

- A deep, involving and dramatic story brings the player into a world of Pokemon not seen or experienced before.

- Strategic battles enhance the adventure.

- Randomly generated dungeons make every mission unique.

Game storyline: One day the player awakens to find that he or she has been turned into a Pokemon. The land is being ravaged by natural disasters so the player decides to form a rescue team with a partner Pokemon. The player can interact with many different Pokemon on various missions while trying to uncover their true purpose and destiny. An engrossing story of adventure, redemption and, most of all, friendship.

Characters: Players can choose to be a Pokemon, and then choose another Pokemon to be their partner. Numerous Pokemon can become friends with the player and can be called upon to join his or her rescue teams. Assuming the role of a Pokemon, the player converses with other Pokemon for the first time using engaging graphics with various Pokemon expressions.

How to progress through the game: Players form a rescue team with a Pokemon friend, accept various missions and try to help Pokemon in trouble. They go into many dungeons and strategically make their way through many floors. The layout of the dungeons is randomly generated, so they present a different challenge every time. Strategy and thinking are the keys to clearing the dungeons and completing the missions.

Specieal powers/weapons/moves/features: A massive amount of game play with endless replay value; many rescue missions to conquer - even after the main story reaches its climactic conclusion. The game starts off easy and advances in difficulty as the player progresses. It will appeal to novice and expert Pokemon fans alike. For the first time, a Pokemon's moves can be "linked" and used together in one turn. This feature offers the player a strategic choice of attacks and is an entirely new concept in the Pokemon world.
