Ranger Outpost - En Route to Meteor Valley
Ranger Elijah & Trainer Alaric

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

A young man of twenty stood near the Head Ranger's desk, absentmindedly flicking the varied tassels and decorations which resided in the pencil holder. He had been accepted as a Ranger over a week ago, and still the most exciting part of the day was making copies of varied Trainer reports. With a sigh, Elijah Quinn stood to his full 6'2 height and sulked over to the copier to make back-ups of the Ranger Logs. With a press of a button, the copier spit out papers, each as identical as the one before it.

"Ranger Elijah? You here?" A voice came from the door. It belonged to the Head Ranger. She was a tall woman herself, with a commanding voice and an imposing stance. "We have a Trainer ready to go out. Want to take him?"

"Wha-YES!" He jumped up and down excitedly. This was going to be his first round out in the park - out into the natural environment of the Pokemon. It was everything he had dreamed of and more. Large blue eyes widened in enthusiasm as he quickly hurried over to the Boss. Greedy hands pulled the small stack of papers from the Head Ranger's grip, while he quickly scanned the print. The new Ranger was attempting to find the name of the Trainer.

"It's Alaric Blythe," the woman commented, rolling her eyes slightly.

"I knew that. And we're going...?" he waited for her to finish his sentence.

"To Meteor Valley," she sighed.

"Awesome! I'll go right away. I-" Elijah began to run towards the door with several Pokeballs in hand before he promptly turned around and returned to the desk. With a slight blush, he mumbled something about keys to the jeep and jetted off again.

The red-head stood near a vehicle which was some sort of hybrid between a go kart and an all-terrain vehicle. It was splashed with mud from a previous trip, that no one had bothered to clean off. With a sigh, the young man fumbled for his belt of Pokemon, pulling two multi-colored balls from the small pouches and throwing them into the air. A bright flash of light engulfed the area, revealing a light pink cotton weed and what looked to be a grumpy old man with an ugly grey cap.

"Midas?" Elijah asked the Slowking. "Do you think you can clean this old thing off before the trainer gets here?"

Midas frowned, stroking his beard gently. He was quite an old Slowking, but he was still active enough to participate on such ventures. With a large yawn, a barrage of water poured from the elderly mouth and assaulted the vehicle. In seconds, all the mud had washed away, leaving light streaks of water to settle on the surface.

The Ranger smiled, turning to his Jumpluff. "Lonnie? Care to float up a bit and search for our Trainer? We're supposed to meet him here soon - and I want to be ready."

The little Pokemon laughed and soared higher and higher, turning in circles as it searched for Alaric.

Trainer Alaric Blythe
The Docks, above Outpost #1

High in the sky, a Salamence was circling the immediate area around the main Outpost of the National Park. However, he was not searching for prey, or new territory; no, it was obvious that the Salamence was enjoying this flight more than normally portrayed in others of his species, male or female. That fact, combined with the unusual figure-eight pattern of flight, led studious watchers to understand that this flight was entirely leisurely. However, the very few with high-powered binoculars, or possibly the telescopes on top of the Outpost used to look at distant locations before deciding to venture there, that were looking up at this Salamence might have been able to notice a more humanoid figure...lounging on the back of this huge, intimidating Dragon Pokemon.

Alaric Blythe was indeed relaxing...or, more specifically, taking a nap on his Salamence's back. He wasn't reckless, oh no, he's been able to do this after many long training and trust exercises with Creshaw. He was merely enjoying the time he had gained over his advance request for his first foray into the National Park. Alaric worked for the top-notch Johto military's Research and Development programs, being the head of such operations. But due to the fact that this world was experiencing a wonderful period of peace, most of Alaric's endeavors were merely ways to ensure and lengthen the peace blanketing the world. Cures, helpful technologies, even leisurely technologies made to make life easier or more exciting graced Alaric's every day at the job. As such, Alaric had many free moments to spend with himself, but he devoted a lot of his time to his job in the military, and slowly built up his vacation credit over time.

Now, here he was, taking full advantage of his vacation time. He'd heard lots about the National Park, but had never actually experienced it. He'd phoned ahead to check on his computer reservation of a normal tour through one certain area of the park, one he had heard a lot more about: Meteor Valley. There were supposed to be lots of Pokemon that he admired living there, and the terrain was absolutely magnificent to behold as well! Since he'd taken care of everything electronically, he didn't have to fill out a lot of paperwork in the Outpost currently below him and wait even longer to experience the park. But he had already been flying over on his Salamence (who was absolutely overjoyed to get this chance of a vacation), and was a few minutes ahead of time. So, here he was, lounging on the back of his Pokemon, waiting for a certain call...

The cell phone attached to his hip suddenly buzzed, and started to let out the ring, a guitar solo from one of his favorite rock band's new albums. Alaric did not jerk, and instead easily reached down to his cell phone and unlatched the thin device from his hip before bringing it up to his ear and pressing Talk. "This is Alaric Blythe."

"Ah, good, Mr. Blythe," a cool female voice said, "We have finished processing your paperwork, and your Ranger has been assigned. He's waiting down on the grounds outside the Outpost for you, how close are you?"

Alaric smiled. "Oh, I've been here for a fair few minutes, enjoying the view,: he answered. "Please, transmit the GPS to my cell, and I'll go meet him immediately. I appreciate it."

"Er..." It was obvious this request was rather unusual. "I suppose it's possible, no one's ever asked that before."

Alaric chuckled. "Ah, well, just input the GPS location of the Ranger, put my number in the requested slot, and click 'send data.' That should work."

"Ah, alright. Thank you, and have a nice day in the National Park, Mr. Blythe."

"No, thank you, miss. Goodbye!" Alaric clicked off his phone and looked at the screen. Sure enough, a couple moments later, the GPS popped up with a new coordinate locked on it, as well as his own. Alaric smiled and replaced it in the holder. before flipping around on Creshaw's back, easily taking a kneeling stance. "Alright, Creshaw. Our Ranger is down over there, go ahead and descend for a quick, but easy landing."

The Salamence gave a low, rumbling growl of assent, before angling his wings and starting to fly lower and lower. Soon, Alaric was barely able to make out what looked like an all-terrain vehicle, but with a top cover. Nearby, there stood a Slowking (who was busy washing off the vehicle), a Jumpluff floated nearby, and standing a little further away was unmistakeably his Ranger escort.

The young man looked to be almost as tall as he was, but his body was a bit thinner, showing off his youth, though he obviously couldn't be that much younger than Alaric either. The shock of red hair on his head was extremely noticeable, Alaric would have no problems with finding his Ranger in case they got separated. Besides that, he wore a red-orange hoodie and blue jeans.

After memorizing the appearance of the Ranger, Alaric tapped Creshaw's back, and Creshaw gave a few flaps of his wings, slowing his descent with each flap. Soon, the Salamence easily touched down, and the Head of the Johto military R&D Department leaped easily from his Pokemon's back. "Nice job, Creshaw, go ahead and take a rest," he said in a friendly tone. After the Salamence nodded, Alaric held up his Pokeball and returned him in a flash of red light.

Alaric replaced the Pokeball on his belt behind him and stepped towards the other male. "You must be my Ranger, it's nice to meet you. My name is Alaric Blythe, but, since you're assigned to me, I'll assume you know this already, haha."

"Pluff!" The small pink Pokemon gave a screech before descending to the ground. It shuddered as it nudged the man. The dandelion like arms covered his eyes as if it were attempting to hide from whatever had been spotted.

A gentle hand rose to comfort the quivering Jumpluff when he casually glanced at what had startled him in the first place. A massive winged dragon soared in the cerulean skies, hovering over the general area of the park. Elijah gasped, quickly tossing Lonnie into the air so he could rub his own eyes in disbelief. Salamence were rare creatures, and to see one in action was quite a privilege.

Massive clawed feet landed with a slight 'thud', revealing none other than a man about his height, give or take an inch. He was tanned a light bronze and adorned with all sorts of high-tech trinkets. They not only looked expensive, but highly important. His cousin would be interested in something like this. Elijah however, was not into gadgets and varied things of that nature.

"You must be my Ranger, it's nice to meet you. My name is Alaric Blythe, but, since you're assigned to me, I'll assume you know this already, haha."

"Hm?" The Ranger looked up from his intense gaze at the electronics to study the Trainer who addressed him. "Oh! Yes. You're Alaric! It's nice to meet you. I'm Elijah, your Ranger. Er... I'm sorry if this all seems awkward. I'm new at this." He paused only to laugh from embarrassment. "Well, this will be our vehicle for the journey. It's been cleaned, so now we can head out, right?"

"Hmph." The Slowking who had spent the last few minutes spraying the jeep looked disgruntled. It was as if he was expecting something.

"Sorry Midas..." The Ranger sighed, quickly recalling his own Pokemon.

"You ready?" Elijah turned around motioned for Alaric to get into the vehicle. Meteor Valley wasn't far off - so the ride there should be fairly pleasant.

"Hm?" The Ranger looked up from his intense gaze at the electronics on Alaric's chest to study the one who addressed him. "Oh! Yes. You're Alaric! It's nice to meet you. I'm Elijah, your Ranger. Er... I'm sorry if this all seems awkward. I'm new at this." Elijah paused, only to laugh in an embarrassed way. "Well, this will be our vehicle for the journey. "Hmph." The Slowking standing next to the vehicle looked disgruntled, as if he was expecting something. From the looks of the water all over the ATV-slash-go-cart thing, it had been recently washed by this same Slowking.

"Sorry Midas..." the Ranger sighed, before recalling the Pokemon into a Pokeball. Elijah then turned around motioned for Alaric to get into the vehicle. "You ready?"

The military man nodded and walked around the vehicle, admiring the looks from the outside as he did so; a hand was trailed over the hood of the front. "Quite an impressive-looking vehicle," Alaric complimented, "Are these specifically made for Rangers, or is there a place I can get one? It looks like a beaut, I can almost hardly wait to take one apart and see what makes it tick!" Alaric paused, halfway climbed into his seat. A sheepish grin crossed his face. "Er...sorry, I get a little, um...enthusiastic around new tech I have yet to see. I hope you understand..." With that last quiet comment, he climbed the rest of the way into the passenger seat and awaited the Ranger.

"Quite an impressive-looking vehicle," the trainer commented.

"I know, right?"

With that last quiet comment, he climbed the rest of the way into the passenger seat.

"Well, I don't really know," Elijah said, placing the key into the ignition. With a flick of his wrist, the jeep jumped to life. "I think these were made by some sort of special science group, especially for the National Park. Then again, I could be wrong. I'm only going by what I've picked up here and there.... And er... don't worry. I'm used to people getting excited over electronics 'n stuff. My cousin is like that. I think you two would get along."

The duo traveled for no more than ten minutes. In that time, they passed through dense foliage on a sole dirt road. The wheels caused clouds of dust to rise and blanket the vehicle, which Elijah assumed the Slowking wouldn't be very happy about.

"Here we are!" The jeep slowed to a halt as the Ranger pushed up from his position. He looked out over the valley, taking in the natural beauty. To one side, there was a high ledge, perhaps twenty feet from the ground. It looked unstable, although if they were careful enough - they may be able to make it. However, Meteor Valley lived up to it's name. The ledge was adjacent to an expansive valley, littered with fallen Meteors. They were illuminated by the shining sun, giving off a faint glow which reached to the autumn trees above. The valley tapered off into a forest with an interesting looking cave.

"Well, where would you like to go?"

The Ranger walked over and climbed into his side of the vehicle, pushing the key into the ignition port. "Well, I don't really know," Elijah said. With a flick of his wrist, the jeep jumped to life. "I think these were made by some sort of special science group, especially for the National Park. Then again, I could be wrong. I'm only going by what I've picked up here and there.... Alaric chuckled. "Well then, maybe we'll have to meet one day. After hearing that, I'm positive we'd have a lot to talk about, haha." As the jeep started forward, Alaric gazed around as the scenery began to pass them by, admiring the incredible natural beauty of the island.

It only took about ten minutes of driving along incredibly differing terrain, but eventually, passing through a curtain of dense vines and leafed branches, they had reached a sole dirt road, while not two hundred feet before them, the incredibly expansive valley dipped deep into the Earth. Elijah brought the jeep to a stop near where the land dipped down. "Here we are!" Elijah announced as he pushed up from his position. He looked out over the valley as Alaric stepped out of the jeep to gaze out at the incredible sight. To one side, there was a high ledge; it started parallel to the ground they stood on, and a little further ways out, it was perhaps twenty feet from the ground. It looked unstable, although if they were careful enough, they may be able to make it. However, Meteor Valley lived up to it's name; the ledge was adjacent to an expansive valley, littered with fallen meteorites. These rocks from space were illuminated by the shining sun, giving off a faint glow which reached to the autumn trees above. The valley tapered off into a forest with an interesting looking cave. Alaric gave a low whistle.

"Well, where would you like to go?" Elijah asked him.

Alaric smiled. "Why don't we just head down into the valley, towards that forest. Maybe we can hit the cave later, if it's part of this area?" he suggested. Inside his pocket, Alaric's fingers were fiddling around with a loose piece of scrap metal he had picked up the other day; he often had something inside his pocket similar to this, keeping his hand occupied when he was eager to start something.

"Why don't we just head down into the valley, towards that forest. Maybe we can hit the cave later, if it's part of this area?" Alaric suggested.

Although he sounded unsure, Elijah merely nodded and decided to follow the Trainer's wishes. Carefully, he sat once more so he could exit the vehicle. He closed the door with a slight slam, hoping Alaric would follow. It was still a beautiful day with the sun shining down through the trees, casting leaf shaped shadows onto the grass below. The trees closest to the path had less leaves than those near the cave. The Ranger assumed it was because the cave held moisture in the ground for the others to grow.

As soon as they set foot into the grass, there was an odd chirping sound coming from above. Wild blue eyes quickly zoomed in on a round green orb perched among the fall colored leaves. It fluttered tiny wings, picking at the red and black feathers adorning them. The small feet which held the tree below twitched, as if it were getting ready to fly.

"Natu," it cried.

"Wow. A Natu? You don't see too many of these... Are you going to go after it? If you are, I'd do it soon. It looks like it might leave at any moment."

OOC: Hehe, yeah, old habit, sorry .

IC: Trainer Alaric Blythe
Meteor Valley

Alaric followed close behind his Ranger escort, looking back and forth over this expansive valley. The light being cast by these stones, reflecting the high-noon sunlight, sparkled and danced all over the rock walls. From the dirt walkway they kept on, Alaric observed the other beauties of the valley. The grass growing along the valley floor seemed to have been affected by these meteorites as well. The blades, from what Alaric could see, were a blue-green color, and were a bit wider than normal. The inquisitive man bent down for a moment and felt the grass under his fingertips;they were soft to the touch, like silk, but hardy and strong, based on the way no grass had been kicked up in the wake of their walk, incredible!

As they approached the forest and cave, Alaric observed the foliage. Based on the amount of light being let through at different areas, the leaves of the trees were definitely thicker the closer the trees were to toe cave; could be some extra moisture coming from the cave to give the vegetation a boost, or, based on the other oddities of the valley, could also very well be resonating some other form of nutrition for the leaves. Nonetheless, it was a wonder either way.

Once the two had stepped off the path into the strange grass, a soft chirp could be heard up above, immediately prompting Alaric to look up, where he observed what seemed to be...

"Natu," it cried.

"Wow. A Natu?" Elijah exclaimed, before looking to the trainer, "You don't see too many of these... Are you going to go after it? If you are, I'd do it soon. It looks like it might leave at any moment."

Alaric pondered for a moment. A Natu would certainly be an interesting addition to his roster...but...in the end, he decided not to, despite this encounter costing him. He reaches into his left pocket, grabbing out a small seed from the bag of trail mix he had in his pocket for a snack. With a smile, he tossed the nut up to the Natu lightly, to which the bird Pokemon leaned out and snatched the seed from its perch on the branch.

"Nah, I think I can look for one another day. Shall we keep walking, Elijah? it's very beautiful here."

Alaric seemed to ponder the other's question momentarily. However, he halted his thoughts before revealing a small bag of assorted trail mix. Nimble fingers plucked a plump seed from the bag and tossed it into the air.

The little green bird cocked its head slightly, examining the seed. It looked like a berry to the psychic Pokemon, leading it to take it within its banana colored beak in a greedy manner. "Natu!"

"I think the bird enjoyed that..." Elijah commented. "Still want it?"

"Nah, I think I can look for one another day. Shall we keep walking, Elijah? It's very beautiful here."

The Ranger nodded and turned to shoo the Natu away... but before he could face the bird, a shield of purple light illuminated the Natu's spherical frame. In a flash, it was gone.

"Teleport? Well I'll be... Anywho, which direction do you want to go now?" The man pointed in two directions. One led to a grove of closed of trees, mostly amber in color. It looked to be a condensed forest, which shifted with the wind. The other path was less populated by flora, but still reeked of wild flowers. Several soft cries could be heard coming from down that lane.

"It's up to you," Elijah said.

As the Ranger turned to shoo the Natu away, a bright purple bubble surrounded the Natu for a moment. Suddenly, the sphere emitted a flash, before instantly phasing it and the Natu away.

"Teleport? Well I'll be..."Elijah murmured. "Anywho, which direction do you want to go now? It's up to you." He pointed to each of the two directions they could go. The first was a grove of trees; the leaves of these trees were shifting with the changing season, now a deep, golden amber color. The leaves and the branches softly swayed with the light breeze blowing through the valley. The second path that the Ranger pointed at led to an area that showed less dense vegetation, but the pungent smell of some species of wild flowers permeated wafted from the area. In addition, there were some sounds coming from that direction...

Alaric grinned and reached to the back of his belt, grasping at one of his Pokeballs. "Yeah, that definitely seems to be the better choice to me. Let's go down that way and see what we find, shall we?" After seeing the rare Natu before, he was certainly eager to find out what else was in store for him this day...

The forest seemed to dense to let light in, giving it some sort of dark aura as it were. Instead, Alaric pointed towards the opposite path, adorned with varied flora. Tiny pink flowers lined the dirt pathway, hidden in the tall grass. With a light gust, the newer grass bent to reveal an undercoat much more yellow than one would have imagined. Meteors of varied sizes jutted through the multi-colored grass in outlandish angles, reflecting the sun in white rays.

The Ranger quickly lifted his forearm to shield his eyes from the shining meteors.

"Cleff, cleff?" A light pink Pokemon stood on the Meteor to Elijah's right. It was shaped like a star, with chocolate tipped ears protruding form the top most point. It smiled before hiding its face in its tiny hands.

"A Cleffa? Figures they'd be near something from space," he sighed. "You think you're up for a battle?"

The path that Alaric had chosen was, indeed, very bright. The sun reflected off of all the nearby meteorites, giving the area a blinding glare, so much so that both Alaric and Elijah needed to shield their eyes from the shining light. Alaric looked back and forth, pinpointing those cries, scanning from his left, all the way over to the Ranger's right. The cries grew more pronounced, and suddenly, Alaric saw a small, pink Pokemon hop out of the bright, colorful grass, standing on one of the meteorites sticking out from the vegetation.

"Cleff, cleff?" the star-shaped Pokemon squeaked. It smiled before hiding its face in its tiny hands.

"A Cleffa? Figures they'd be near something from space," Elijah sighed. "You think you're up for a battle?"

Alaric primed his Pokeball before letting it drop in front of him. The ball hit the ground with a light tap sound, before popping open and letting forth a bright light that was second only to the very rays being reflected from the sun. This bright light ballooned out of the ball, before starting to take shape. The middle was an interesting, hexagonal shape when seen from above, floating a few feet aboce the Pokeball. From this hexagon, four long appendages coalesced and angled down, holding this shape up in the air as it began to take a more three-dimensional shape. The hexagon extended both upwards and downwards from the flat shape in the middle, looking like two trapezoids stuck together at the widest part when stared directly at from any side, while the appendages became cylindrical.

After a mere second, the light faded, showing off the summoned Metagross, his metal hide shining in the light reflected from the space rocks. "Metaaaa..."

Alaric picked up the Pokeball from beneath his devastating Pokemon. "Alright, Indigo, I want you to calmly approach the Cleffa and use a Brick Break, but go easy on it. I would rather not scare it away, or any Pokemon around that may flee if they see you one-shot this little fella, kay?"

The Steel- and Psychic-Type Pokemon looked back at his trainer for a moment, then glanced back at the Cleffa. His body dipped forward as he gave an assenting nod. "Gross, meta meta."

Before the duo appeared a monstrous Pokemon, looking like an automaton that may appear in a comic book. It was dusted a deep blue, groaning and creaking as it erupted from the Pokeball. Large arms drooped at its sides, letting the geometric angles of the rest of its body show in the bright sun. "Meta..."

Elijah stood near Alaric, observing the metal beast in the new environment. The tinted metal gave off a heavy reflection, which may be an advantage later on. The Ranger instinctively put a hand up to his eyes, as to deflect the glare.

"Alright, Indigo, I want you to calmly approach the Cleffa and use a Brick Break, but go easy on it. I would rather not scare it away, or any Pokemon around that may flee if they see you one-shot this little fella, kay?"

The Steel and Psychic-Type Pokemon looked back at his trainer for a moment, then glanced back at the Cleffa. Its body dipped forward as he gave an assenting nod. "Gross, meta meta." It inched forward, eyeing the Cleffa with caution.

The sweet fairy smiled innocently, wiggling in what looked to be a slight dance. It was anticipating an attack, and was readying itself for whatever was to come.

One of Metagross' arms began to glow crimson in color as it inched towards the twitching pink Pokemon. "Gross!" In one swift movement, the metal claw crashed onto the pasty meteor below, smashing the extraterrestrial rock to pieces. It quickly looked about for the Cleffa among the debris, red eyes moving to and fro.

Among the flying pebbles was a slightly injured fairy, who had escaped the head-on attack with little difficulty. It maneuvered itself through the air and landed on top of Metagross' flat head. Little lips puckered and quickly pressed against the cool blue surface. Instantly, an odd swirling shape appeared in the Steel Pokemon's eyes. It had been confused!

Well, that probably wasn't too smart... Alaric mused when he noticed that the Cleffa had easily dodged his attack; he was trying to keep the Cleffa from outright fainting, but having Indigo calmly approach the Moon Fairy gave it ample time to prepare. To make matters worse, before Indigo could react to the fact that the Cleffa had received minimal damage from the attack, the little pink Pokemon had landed on his head and gave it a little smooch, causing swirls to appear in the automaton's eyes. "Sweet Kiss..." Alaric growled in annoyance.

The Metagross tottered back and forth slightly, the confusion making him a little ungainly, even with four legs on the ground. "Taaaaaaaaaaa...grooosss..." he moaned.

"Come on, Indigo, shake it off, this is nothing!" Alaric encouraged, "This time, try a Psychic attack, and don't try and hold back very much this time, don't give the fairy enough time to react if you can!" Even confused, Alaric was confident that one of Indigo's four brains had sufficient brain power to be able to use Psychic, even if not as much as if he had full consciousness.

Since the kiss had landed without a hitch, the little Cleffa was feeling confident. It huffed up its chest, calling to the larger Pokemon. Almost as if it were taunting the other.

"Sweet Kiss..." Alaric growled in annoyance.

Elijah chuckled at the crafty Cleffa. It seemed to know what it was doing, as if it were skilled in battle tactics.

The Metagross tottered back and forth slightly, the confusion making him a little ungainly, even with four legs on the ground. "Taaaaaaaaaaa...grooosss..." it moaned.

"Come on, Indigo, shake it off, this is nothing!" Alaric attempted to encourage his partner. "This time, try a Psychic attack, and don't try and hold back very much this time, don't give the fairy enough time to react, if you can!"

"Gross!" The metal beast groaned, wobbling forth in an effort to surpass its confusion. Luckily for Alaric, under the thick metal hide was an immeasurable IQ. It allowed Metagross to snap from its confusion momentarily and muster strength for a Psychic. A light aura surrounded the blue Pokemon. It shone a magnificent violet color, lightened only by the strong sunlight.

The small fairy looked around, trying to formulate a plan.

Indigo closed its eyes in concentration, releasing the pent up aura in a deadly blast. The Psychic pulse stretched across the open field, emanating in all directions.

Cleffa couldn't avoid it, but perhaps the small moon mon could retaliate. It took the Psychic with a strong face, holding its little arms out to receive the blow.

The Metagross stood back to admire the damage Psychic had done when out of no where, flew a small ball, no larger than the size of the Cleffa. Contained within the sphere was the same violet color which had produced the Psychic attack. Cleffa had used Copycat, sending Indigo's attack right back at it!

Indigo was taken by complete surprise at Cleffa's retaliation, being hit head on by the tiny Copycat.

"I didn't know Cleffa could do that..." Eli mused, watching the small Pokemon begin to pant.

"Gross!" the metal beast groaned, wobbling forth in an effort to surpass its confusion. Luckily , under the thick metal hide was an immeasurable IQ, as Alaric had hoped. It allowed Indigo to snap free from its confusion momentarily and muster strength for a Psychic. A light violet aura surrounded the blue Pokemon. It shone a magnificent brightness, lightened only by the strong sunlight.

Alaric smirked as he watched the Cleffa glance around, thinking up some way that it could possibly come up with a way to avoid or counter the attack, but to no avail; Psychic Pokemon were extremely notorious for the fact that their attacks, controlled by thought alone, were very effective in surpassing obstacles to reach the opponent, or, in the case of Psychic, blowing right through them.

The Metagross closed its eyes in concentration, then rose a bit on its legs, releasing the pent up mental energy in a deadly blast. The Psychic pulse stretched across the open field, emanating in all directions. The Moon Fairy couldn't avoid it, and took the Psychic with a strong face, holding its little arms out to receive the blow...as if resigning itself to receive the attack. Alaric knew, she was planning something.

When the attack had finished, Indigo took a step backwards to assess the results of his attack, even while confused. Alaric then saw a glowing ball surging towards his Pokemon; Indigo noticed it a moment later, too little too late. This violet ball of energy struck the automaton head on, making the extremely heavy Pokemon slide back along the ground, almost hitting Alaric in the process, who put his hands out to press against Indigo's hide in response.

"I didn't know Cleffa could do that..." Eli mused to himself out loud.

Alaric glanced to his Ranger. "What was that, Copycat?" he asked in surprise. Before getting his answer, he looked out over Indigo's body, seeing that the little Cleffa was beginning to pant with the exertions of battle. "Who knew a baby Pokemon could do so much here...Man, I love the National Park, so many surprises!"

The Johto R&D Head looked around the area, seeing very few trees, and noe of them were anywhere near Cleffa. However, a few, rather large meteorites were sticking out of the ground nearly right next to the small, pink fairy; one was casting a shadow over her. Perfect. Alaric jumped back and put a hand in his pants pocket confidently. "Alright, Indigo, I want you to jump forward and use Earthquake!" Alaric was confident he could reasonably keep his balance from the aftershocks of the attack they were certain to feel, having been in battle with his Metagross so many times before.

Elijah turned to the musing trainer, to give an answer. "It was!... You know," the Ranger began, "Baby Pokemon are the most crafty - as they don't have the wide array of attacks that stronger evolutions do. Therefore, they have to rely mostly on wit and pure luck. It seems this Cleffa is very experienced."

Alaric nodded and jumped back. He put a hand in his pants pocket confidently. "Alright, Indigo, I want you to jump forward and use Earthquake!" Alaric was confident he could reasonably keep his balance from the aftershocks of the attack they were certain to feel, having been in battle with his Metagross so many times before.

"Meta!" Once more, the confusion seemed to be in vain as the metal monster thundered past the surrounding meteors. Indigo raised two large hands, twitching with immense power.

As the mighty fists began to descend to create and Earthquake, the little Cleffa grinned. She smiled a wide, inerving smile. Slowly, as the Metagross lept foreward, the air began to turn heavy. It felt as if time were slowing, as pressure mounted above all that were standing in the immediate area. The trees bent as Elijah tried to brace himself, only to be forced to his knees.

With an increase of gravity, the Steel Pokemon slammed to the ground; sticking to the grass as if by static cling. As Indigo struck the ground from Gravity, the heavy iron-clad fists slammed into the Earth, giving a massive quake.

Cleffa cried out as she was shaken with extensive force. However, all was not in vain as Indigo suffered from his own attack.

When the ground stopped moving, the Ranger had the chance to survey the area. Only one meteor had broken, while the rest of the environment looked relativley unharmed. Elijah assumed this had something to do with Cleffa's gravity - holding all the structures in place.

The little fairy looked tired, almost weak from the unique battle.

"Meta!" the metal beast cried; it seemed that the confusion that the Cleffa had inflicted on it would be useless in her favor once again. Indigo raised two large hands, twitching with immense power. Then, he exerted his pent-up strength, and slammed his fists down.

However, the Cleffa was ready. With a grin, she took a stance...and then the air was suddenly heavy, and very dense. Everything visibly slowed down, and, if one payed attention as closely as Alaric, they might see the air starting to shimmer with the greater pull being exerted in the immediate area. Eyes wide, Alaric immediately widens his stance and braces his legs when he feels himself being pulled down to the ground; thanks to his military training and almost daily conditioning, Alaric was able to withstand this new onslaught.

However, the gravity was affecting Indigo as well. With a groan, it finally slammed its legs on the ground, though its body collapsed immediately after it, causing it to grunt in pain, and adding to the force of the Earthquake. The ground shook almost explosively with the added force, shaking everything for quite a distance around, especially the Cleffa, who was shaken around, hitting the two rocks she was between a few times before flopping to the ground.

Alaric clenched his teeth and exerted his senses of strength and balance to their very limits to resist this quaking, only barely able to keep standing after the shaking had stopped. Sweat visibly dripped from his hair, chin, and nose, showing just how difficult this was even for a military man. Looking over, Alaric wasn't too surprised to see Ranger Elijah on his knees. After checking his escort, Alaric looked out to the field and gazed over the results.

"God damn it..." he muttered; only one of the meteors had broken, and even then, it had missed the little pink fairy Pokemon entirely. "This little Cleffa is quite the strategist..."

He watched as the Cleffa clambered to her footpaws again, body raising and lowering with the exertion of the battle; she was even more exhausted than Alaric, which caused the technician to grin a bit. It seemed like a better time than any.

Even with the increase in gravity, Alaric's movements were lightning quick. He reached an arm back to his pack, slipped it into the item pouch, and snatched one of his Hyberballs. In a single, fluid movement, Alaric whipped his hand from the pack and clicked the button on the ball a split second before he flung it with all his singular-arm strength at the Cleffa, hoping that ensured it connected, and Alaric, though not a body-builder, was quite strong indeed. Mid-flight, the Hyperball practically inflated to it's full size, spinning on a collision course with the now coveted Pokemon...

Mid-flight, the Hyperball practically inflated to it's full size, spinning on a collision course with the now coveted Pokemon.

Elijah watched as the ball soared high over the gravity ridden field. It seemed to fly at a lightning speed, even though the area in play was hampered by force. Just as it expanded into its full size, the immense pull caused it to drop to the ground. Luckily, Alaric's strength proved to be enough so that the Hyperball wouldn't completely stop when it crashed to the ground. It continued to roll until it hit the foot of a little pink fairy.

Cleffa's eyes widened as the ball hit her foot. She was still concentrating on Indigo and hadn't noticed the capturing device sneak up on her. With a slight nudge against a chubby foot, the Hyperball exploded, opening into a vast array of red lighting. With a blink of an eye, the ball closed, encasing the moon fairy.

Though he was still on the ground, Elijah watched the small Pokemon disappear. The Hyperball wiggled three times before settling down. As soon as it halted, the gravity returned to normal. The Ranger was able to stand and give a hearty sigh. "That was pretty impressive... So which way from here?" he smiled.

The black-and-yellow ball soared high over the gravity ridden field, seeming to fly at a lightning speed, even though the area in play was hampered by force. Just as it expanded into its full size, the immense pull caused it to drop to the ground...much to Alaric's dismay Luckily, Alaric's strength proved to be enough so that the Hyperball wouldn't completely stop when it crashed to the ground. It continued to roll until it hit the foot of a little pink fairy.

The Cleffa's eyes widened instantly once the ball touched her little foot; she hadn't even thought to try and step out of the way! She was still concentrating on Indigo and hadn't noticed the capturing device sneak up on her. With a slight nudge against the tiny foot, the Hyperball exploded open, releasing a vast array of bright white lighting, which engulfed the Cleffa and turned her body into the light as well, before pulling it all back inside the Hyperball. With a blink of an eye, the ball closed, encasing the moon fairy. The ball shook once, twice, thrice before it became still, and the red light on the button on the front faded.

Capture successful.

As soon as the ball had finished its shaking and halted, the gravity lifted once more, and returned to normal. Alaric breathed deeply, sighing out in relief as more sweat dripped off of his nose, chin, and hair. That gravity ability was...quite the test of strength, even for a military man like Alaric. As he straightened himself up and gave his Metagross, who had stood up as well once Gravity had ended, a nice congratulatory rub on the head, he already started formulating training regimens for himself, and this clever little Cleffa. "Nice job, Indigo. Now, go ahead and take a break." He grabbed out Indigo's Pokeball and returned him, letting his hand fall to his side once it had turned into red energy and was pulled back into his temporary home. Once that was done, he began walking over to the Hyperball.

Alaric heard the Ranger behind him stand up and give a hearty sigh. "That was pretty impressive..." he complimented. "So which way from here?"

Alaric leaned down and picked up the Hyperball, standing back up before responding. "Hmm...How about we keep going this way, but soon arc towards that cave?" he suggested. "Either way we go, I'm just gonna follow you anyway."

Alaric chuckled lightly, shrugging and looking out into the area. Without a map, going into the cave would be a little riskier, but risk is what makes being in the military exciting. Alaric grinned, and started walking through the grass. He wasn't walking directly for the cave, but his arc was obviously heading towards it. "Well, we might as well explore, map or no map. "I never really though of that. That's quite brilliant, really - though you'll need to light the cave. It's beginning to get dark." The Ranger motioned upwards to the sky, pointing at the retreating sun. It would have helped if he had brought some sort of electric Pokemon - but he didn't think the time would have passed so quickly.

They continued through the grass as the sun set deeper and deeper into the navy sky. There were no Pokemon to be seen, leading the Ranger to suspect they may be in hiding. "Do you suppose the cave might be a better opti-" he was promptly cut off as a whirlwind of tree leaves passed the area. A rather large branch fell from the adjacent tree as a Pokemon emerged from the darkness. It had a prominent crest, hanging from its forehead. Both its face and claws were as black as the sky, though the pure white coat contrasts nicely to the dark.

Elijah blinked at Alaric's comment. "I never really though of that. That's quite brilliant, really - though you'll need to light the cave. It's beginning to get dark." The Ranger motioned upwards to the sky, pointing at the sky, and Alaric gazed in the gestured direction. Sure enough the sky was bathed in a wash of colors, from a light, cheery pink, to a dusky orange, and even some deep purples. Sunlight was no longer prevalent; the battle with the Cleffa had gone on longer than the military R&D head thought.

Alaric shrugged and nodded simply to his escort, and they continued through the grass as the sun set deeper and deeper into the navy sky. There were no Pokemon to be seen, which made Alaric relax a tiny bit; the Pokemon must have been in hiding from the night chill starting to nip at their skin in the pre-winter air. "Do you suppose the cave might be a better opti-" the Ranger began to say. He was cut off as a whirlwind of tree leaves suddenly passed the area. A rather large branch fell from a nearby tree as a Pokemon emerged from the darkness. Alaric's eyes widened as he gazed upon the newcomer. It had a prominent, bladed crest, hanging from its forehead. On its head, a ruby glowed even in the darkening environment. Both its face and claws were as black as the sky, though the pure white coat contrasted nicely to the dark.

"Absol!" the beast cried, in a deep, but still feminine voice.

"Holy crap..." Alaric muttered, astounded. "Those Pokemon are rare, even inside the National Park...This...is so cool!" His voice was quiet, but had a quality that cloud only be described as excited. Immediately, the trainer reached into his pouch and grabbed the Pokeball he knew he wanted, and tossed it into the air before him. The sphere spun twice before cracking open with the telltale pop, allowing white light to pour from inside. The immediate area was lit up with the brilliant, blinding light as the contents of the ball began forming into Alaric's prized Salamence.

Once the dragon had formed, the light in the area faded, making the darkness much more pronounced than before. Alaric looked up, noticing a dead, leafless branch hanging next to him. He reached up and snagged the branch, quickly pulling at it with a jerking motion, which snapped it from the tree. Alaric quickly began to break this large branch into several smaller ones, until he held about six three-foot-long pieces clenched in his left hand. Next, he pulled out a military-grade, tough, but thin length of rope known as 550 cord from his right pocket. He wrapped his length around the bottom inch of the twigs tightly a few times, before tying a knot after a few wraps, securing the cord.

The whole time that Alaric was snapping twigs, Creshaw and the wild Absol gazed at him with a confused expression, possibly wondering just what the hell he was up to. A small grin formed on Alaric's face, and he looked up to his dragon, holding the collection of twigs closer. Creshaw immediately knew what Alaric was doing without explanation or being asked. First, he dipped his head closer and took the end of the 550 cord by the knot between his teeth, clipping it for his trainer. Once that was done, he raised his head to the top of the bundle and drew in a breath, before softly exhaling. Warm, orange-and-red light bathed the clearing again as the dragon used a small flamethrower on the makeshift torch, allowing the others in the area to see much better.

"Good job, Creshaw," Alaric praised. "Now then, you fancy a battle?" He pointed to the Absol standing across from them.

Creshaw stared down his new opponent, before stepping forward about ten feet and letting out a growl. The Salamence stamped his forelegs down and dug his claws some more into the dirt, taking a battle position. His tail end was twitching slightly, like a cat's might while on the hunt.

"Alright, Creshaw, start things off with a Dragon Dance!"

"Holy crap..." Alaric muttered, astounded. "Those Pokemon are rare, even inside the National Park...This...is so cool!"

"Indeed it is," the red-head chuckled. "They're very rare indeed. Most trainers only see them in the darkest hours of the night, but this one seems to have been awoken early. I wonder why? I suppose my best guess is that... well... according to my obnoxious cousin, 'It appears when it senses an impending natural disaster.' Although... I don't really see an impending disaster around h-" The Ranger was struck breathless when he noticed vast amounts of grey clouds marching towards they area. They seemed to be originating from Mt. Oktori, from where they blanketed over the free area. Even the darkness seemed afraid.

"What in the world is going on? Maybe Absol was disturbed by it too..."

The only response he got was a quiet, "Jum."

Suddenly, Alaric pulled a Pokeball from his back pocket, releasing it into the air. Forward came a large beast - the one Elijah and the Jumpluff had seen earlier. "Salamence!"

Though impressive, Creshaw wasn't quite the electric Pokemon needed to light the area. The darkness was starting to look like a dilemma when Alaric glanced at the adjacent tree. He noticed a dead limb swaying loosely, enough to be torn down and turned into a makeshift torch - with the help of the massive Salamence. A breath of flame licked the dead wood, giving them new life. The trainer used a cord to wrap them tightly, which he held above the area.

"Good job, Creshaw," Alaric praised. "Now then, you fancy a battle?" He pointed to the Absol standing across from them.

Creshaw stared down his new opponent, before stepping forward about ten feet and letting out a growl.

Absol winced, drawing back a few steps.

"Alright, Creshaw, start things off with a Dragon Dance!"

The dragon dug his nails into the lush grass below, as his wings fluttered to an imaginary tune. Puffs of red and black smoke exited his large nostrils, surrounding his large, blue frame. He let out a roar, feeling the new increase in power.

The dark Pokemon was momentarily distracted by the fire before she too, readied herself for battle. With a look of intense concentration, miniature swords danced around the large, black horn. Absol smiled, showing a slight grin of satisfaction. It was going to be an interesting battle.

Creshaw dug his nails into the lush grass below, as his blood-red wings fluttered to an imaginary tune. Puffs of red and black smoke exited his large nostrils, surrounding his large, blue-and-red body. He let out a roar, feeling the new increase in power.

The Dark-Type was momentarily distracted by the fire before she too, readied herself for battle. With a look of intense concentration, miniature swords danced around the large, black horn. The Absol smiled, showing a slight grin of satisfaction. She was definitely pumped up, ready to go into this new battle.

A slight, sudden breeze picked up, nothing too bad, nothing too cold, but Alaric glanced up anyway, noticing that there were some thick, heavy clouds starting to drift in from the mountain in the distance, which I guessed was Mt. Oktori. "Hm...Could be in for some wind and precipitation soon..." Alaric murmured. He looked back down at the battle. "Alright, Creshaw, start things off with Aerial Ace!"

The Salamence drew back on all four claws, before throwing himself forward, dirt flying up at Alaric and Ranger Elijah. Creshaw roared, his wings spread wide as he took immediate flight towards his opponent. The tip of his pointed muzzle glinted with the attack, armed with the guarantee of hitting the target.

"Hm...Could be in for some wind and precipitation soon..." Alaric murmured. He looked back down at the battle. "Alright, Creshaw, start things off with Aerial Ace!"

"I hope not. I don't like rain - and I certainly don't have anything to protect us from the elements. I thought it was just going to be a mellow night," the Ranger sighed. "Although, knowing my luck, I should have predicted something like this."

Upon hearing his master's command, Creshaw lifted his massive frame from the ground, batting his wings. The cold wind turned harsh as the Salamence contributed to the gales. The red scales spread as he rose higher and higher into the sky.

Absol took a step back, the harsh wind ruffling her fur. Her teeth gnashed together, waiting for the opponent to get closer.

Once Creshaw was high enough in the air, his long neck craned downwards to spot his opponent. Small eyes locked on to the target, even through the approaching darkness. With one foul swoop, he began to descend.

Absol saw this as her chance. The dark Pokemon growled, closing her crimson eyes. Just as she had done with Swords Dance, the Absol began to concentrate, no matter how difficult the circumstances.

As Creshaw closed in, he didn't notice the rather large fists approaching from the ground. They materialized from nothing, taking the dull color of Absol's horn. The first twisted, hitting the dragon on the right, front leg. The second hit a much more crucial area. It bounded up from the ground, hitting the pale underside of the Salamence. Creshaw stumbled mid-air, but it didn't completely stop his intense attack. Only a few feet from the ground, his wings turned rigid as he collided with the unlucky Pokemon.

Absol fell to the ground, glaring at her opponent. She didn't think she'd take so much damage.

Trainer Alaric Blythe
Meteor Valley

Higher and higher the Salamence rose above the battlefield, his wings slamming the cooling air down at his trainer and the Ranger, but the fire held true to the onslaught of wind, continuing to slowly eat away at its food. Alaric braced himself against the onslaught of cold air, making sure he wasn't blown down, as did the Absol. She crouched low, her teeth grinding together as she awaited the incoming attack. This determination made Alaric wonder; he and Salamence had trained Aerial Ace to the level the move itself was meant for, to be a completely flawless technique that was impossible to miss its target. So what could the Absol have up her sleeves? He wondered...

The Salamence spread his gleaming red wings as he rose higher, using the natural wind currents found higher in the skies to push himself closer to that desired elevation. As Alaric gazed up at him, he watched the ominous clouds blot out what little of the moon had been visible that night, covering the skies directly above their heads. Alaric made a note after this battle to don his coat, but in the meantime, his attention was on the Absol, as well as the burning sticks in his hand. Once Creshaw had attained enough height, he lowered his neck and head as he looked down, hovering in midair. He seemed to freeze in that single spot for a moment...then, with a flick of his tail, he slammed his wings to his sides, rocketing his body downwards. As he gained speed, he extended his wings again, using them to correct his flight pattern on his collision course with his opponent.

The Absol saw this as her chance. The Dark-Type Pokemon growled, closing her crimson eyes.

Absol was thrown back, skidding across the dirt and grass, before she was stopped by a rather sturdy tree, that withstood the impact. Meanwhile, Creshaw backwinged after colliding with his target successfully, slamming back onto the ground. His body had been battered by those two fists, and the dragon was panting, but his mouth was painted into an unmistakable smile. It was rare that he found an opponent with as much gusto as that; most of his previous wild opponents went down in a single hit like that, too, but not only did she endure the attack with plenty more fight in her, but she had given Creshaw his own pain in an equally painful strike. With the both of them being powerful fighters, Alaric could see the beginnings of a kinship for the Absol in Creshaw's expression.

The Absol rolled to her feet after she had recovered her senses, jumping back out towards Creshaw, but since Alaric was unfamiliar with her, he could not read her expression beyond one of seriousness...At least, he thought it looked rather serious. This Absol...He definitely wanted a Pokemon like her on his Team. He would be only allowed to leave with three Pokemon by the time he left the park that day...or rather, that evening, but he was positive that this Absol would be one of those three, regardless of whatever else he came across.

He could tell by the Absol's impact with the tree that using another Aerial Ace would be a horrible mistake unto its own; knocking out Pokemon eliminated the possibility of capture. So, with Creshaw's increased Attack Power, he figured a smarter move may be to use a Special attack this time, and he knew which one Creshaw would prefer to use...

"Alright, Creshaw, let's show her just how much your heart burns with the passion of battle!"

Creshaw looked back at me over his shoulder, giving the Salamence equivalent of a grin, then looked back at his opponent. His claws gripped the soil tight beneath them, and he raised his head, sucking in a great, big breath. Another second later, his head shot forward, releasing a molten stream of hot fire from between his jaws.

Flamethrower.

Elijah watched from the sidelines, standing near Alaric. They had taken residence near one of the larger trees, the Salamence's flame torch still burning in the twilight. It was then that the dark clouds which had appeared behind the Absol in the beginning began to rumble. They were approaching much faster, groaning with each mile they had closed in. "I don't like this," the Ranger quivered, staring into the misty grey.

Meanwhile, Creshaw had landed abruptly, grinning as he looked towards the dark Pokemon. The hint of emotion he gave with the smile let those around him know he had been enjoying the battle. It seemed rare that a Salamence could find a worthy opponent because of its size and power. However, it was quite unique that an Absol could put up a valiant battle.

The Absol rolled to her feet after she had recovered her senses, jumping back out towards Creshaw. She had a look of serious proportions on her face, although underneath the stern look - she was very happy indeed. Battle was exciting, thrilling - and she was glad to have such a strong opponent.

"Alright, Creshaw, let's show her just how much your heart burns with the passion of battle!"

Yet, Absol wasn't ready to lay down and take it. She was going to last as long as she could. As the flames barreled towards her light frame, her fanged teeth spouted a smile. Without a second glance, a clear force field appeared. It looked like a pane of glass, set up before the Absol as protection. She had used Protect!

The immense flames hit the glass with an intense force - but the Detect held strong. Flames rebounded back towards the massive dragon, though none of them hit. Creshaw continued with the Flamethrower when the clouds crashed over head. Gentle flakes began to fall from the darkened skies, causing an immediate reaction from Absol. She turned her head to watch the falling snow, discontinuing the shield. Unfortunately, Detect ended a tad too early, letting the leftover flames lick her heels.

Creshaw's special attack may not have hit, but it caused a severe burn on both of Absol's front paws.

Absol wasn't ready to lay down and take the flamethrower attack. She was going to last as long as she could. As the flames barreled towards her black-and-white frame, her fanged teeth showed as her lips opened in a smile. Without a second glance, a clear force field appeared. It looked like a pane of glass, set up before the Absol as protection. Alaric had recognized that particular attack; she had used Protect!

The immense flames hit the glass with an intense force - but the Protect held strong, much to Alaric's displeasure, though he was impressed by the reaction time this particular Pokemon had. Flames rebounded back towards the massive dragon, though none of them hit. Creshaw continued with the Flamethrower when the clouds massed overhead. As Alaric watched the fight take place, gentle flakes began to fall from the darkened skies, also causing an immediate reaction from Absol. She turned her head to watch the falling snow, discontinuing the shield. Unfortunately, Protect ended a tad too early, letting the leftover flames lick her heels, causing the Absol to yelp and jump back in surprise and pain; Creshaw's special attack may not have hit, but it caused a severe burn on both of Absol's front paws.

"Well, not exactly the result I wanted...but good enough for me," Alairc commented with a smile. He looked around at the snow falling, noting that, despite the battle taking place, it was rather peaceful and serene. Once he had his fill, he then looks back to Creshaw. "Alright then, give her a little love Bite, Creshaw!"

The dragon's claws dug into the dirt and flung his huge body forward, jaws open wide as he barreled towards his target.

Creshaw dipped his head low, attempting to nip at the raw, exposed area of the opponent's feet. He managed to succeed, clamping down onto a burned claw. Through closed teeth, he sounded excited that it had hit.... Unknown to both Alaric and Creshaw, this was exactly what Absol wanted.

When the jaws hooked around her right paw, she instantly took the left, raising it high into the air. Sharp talons protruded from the singed fur, shining in the intense moonlight. The large one in the middle reared back as if it were a Velociraptor claw, itching in the hunt. She swung down, using Slash. The claw raked over Creshaw's blue hide. Hideous ripping sounds echoed through the valley.

After an intense surge of pain, both Pokemon split from one another's company and glared to the fullest. Unfortunately, it seemed Absol was on her last leg. The burn was really starting to hurt.

Heavy jaws snapped repeatedly as the Salamennce rushed at his opponent. Creshaw dipped his head low, attempting to nip at the raw, exposed area of the opponent's feet. The Absol, Alaric was barely able to notice, made little, to no attempt at all to avoid being bitten. He managed to succeed, clamping down onto a burned claw. Through closed teeth, he let out a pleased growl, sounding excited that it had hit...but in the next second, Alaric's suspicions on the lack of a dodge attempt were proven true, that this was just what she wanted.

When the jaws hooked around her right paw, the Absol instantly took the left, raising it high into the air. Sharp talons protruded from the singed fur, shining in the intense moonlight. The large one in the middle reared back as if it were a Velociraptor claw, twitching as if itching in the hunt. Before Alaric could utter a cry of alarm or warning to his Pokemon, she swung down, using Slash. The claw raked over Creshaw's blue hide. Hideous ripping sounds echoed through the valley, as did Creshaw's equally-grotesque, high-pitched roars of pain.

After an intense surge of pain, both Pokemon split from one another's company and glared to the fullest, blood dripping from both of their newest wounds, and wetting the slight amount of white virgin snow at their feet with the angry crimson color battle produces. Unfortunately, it seemed Absol was on her last leg. The burn looked to Alaric like it was really starting to hurt.

So, he decided that he would do this now, rather than later. He looked to his Salamence. "Creshaw, shake off the pain, you got this. Use Captivate!"

The Salamence looked back at him, confused, and blocking the Absol's view of Alaric, donning a rather confused look; his opponent was almost down, why use something that useless? Upon seeing what was in Alaric's hand, however, he understood and nodded, giving a much more visible shrug to his shoulders that the Absol would notice, continuing the facade to keep the Absol from knowing what Alaric was doing. He looked back forward, and Alaric stepped right behind his dragon Pokemon.

Creshaw dipped his head low and arched his back, issuing a low, soft keening sound, which would capture her attention of the Absol, even if it seemed a little unusual. Alaric grinned a bit and used the distraction to jump out to the side from behind Creshaw, his finger pressing down on the button in his hand. As the tiny sphere expanded to fill out his hand and then some, Alaric quickly threw the Hyperball hard at the Absol, displaying the accuracy and power of a military-trained individual with that simple maneuver.

The trainer looked to his Salamence. "Creshaw, shake off the pain, you got this. Use Captivate!"

The Salamence looked back at him, donning a rather confused look. Matching the Pokemon's confusion was the Ranger's. Elijah never would have thought to use such an odd move so late in battle. However, it was not his battle, and therefore he wasn't going to be the one to judge someone else's tactics.

Yet before Creshaw could strike, the female charged in her last attempt for battle. The side of her body collided with the Salamence’s large frame. It was obvious it didn’t do much damage, especially when she was so burned. Sliding back, she collapsed to the ground from the intense pain of the burn.

In the mean time, Creshaw dipped his head low and arched his back, issuing a low, soft keening sound. He was hopeful that it would capture the attention of the Absol, even if it seemed a little unusual.

The black and white HyperBall with yellow rectangular markings on the black top half spun towards the prized Absol. Lucky for Alaric, she didn't notice the ball coming after her. It hit the shark like fin of the Absol's tail, popping open. It pulled the unlucky beast inside with a flash of light. As it hit the newly formed snow, the HyperBall thrashed about. Soon, it fell silent.

"Congratulations on your new Absol," the Ranger smiled. "Anywhere else you'd like to go?"

Lucky for Alaric, the Absol didn't notice the ball coming after her. It hit the shark like fin of her tail, popping open and pulling the unlucky beast inside with a flash of light. As it hit the newly formed snow, the Hyperball thrashed about. Soon, it fell silent, and the red glow on the button faded. Once again, capture successful.

Alaric pumped a fist into the air. "Oh yeah, captured!" Quickly, he ran over to the ball and knelt down, picking up his new Pokemon's capture device from the snow. It was a little cold in his hand, but he hardly cared, he'd been wanting an Absol like this for some time now. Once he was done admiring this fact, Alaric stood up and shrunk the ball, placing it into his pouch as he walked back over to Elijah.

"Congratulations on your new Absol," the Ranger said, and smiled. "Anywhere else you'd like to go?"

Alaric looked around. The landscape was rather beautiful, with the falling snow in the twilight. However, it was dark, except for the torch he held in his hand above their heads, and it was getting cold. Despite his affinity for the snow, cold didn't exactly suit him so well for the task at hand today. SO, when he spotted the cave again, he pointed over to it. "That seems like a good place to go. I can get more branches for another torch on the way there, too, just in case."

Alaric pulled out Creshaw's Pokeball and recalled the loyal beast, who definitely looked as though he needed a rest, despite the grin on his muzzle from a job well done against a tough opponent. With that done, he pocketed the Pokeball in the pouch and started walking towards the cave, wanting to be inside soon to see what lay in wait...

The Ranger smiled, watching Alaric pick up the Pokeball in such cold temperature. The man seemed to flinch when his hand touched the cool metallic outside, yet his face hardly showed it. As he placed it in his pouch, Elijah found it proper to congratulate him. "Congratulations on your new Absol... Anywhere else you'd like to go?"

The other man pointed towards the cave. "That seems like a good place to go. I can get more branches for another torch on the way there, too, just in case."

"Sounds like a plan," Elijah smiled.

Alaric had Creshaw return to his Pokeball as they began to journey towards the cave.

The torch was burning bright when the Ranger noticed something glowing in the dark. Even through the snow, he could see a light aura penetrating the darkness of the cave entrance. "What in the world?" He started to jog towards the mysterious light, to discover the unique source. As he reached the lip of the cave, he gasped.

Waiting in silence was a small raven cat with a striped yellow tail. Large ears twitched in annoyance as the ring of gold on its forehead glowed bright. “Umbreon!” it growled.

"Sounds like a plan," Elijah smiled.

The torch was burning bright, illuminating much of the clearing between the trees as they walked. Suddenly, Alaric noticed something glowing in the dark, and it seems that Elijah did as well. Even through the snow, he could see a light aura penetrating the darkness of the cave entrance. "What in the world?" Elijah murmured. He started to jog towards the mysterious light, and Alaric quickly followed, to discover the unique source. As they reached the lip of the cave, the Ranger gasped, and Alaric stopped dead in his tracks.

Waiting in silence was a black canine, powerful body standing in a defensive position just inside the cave. Large ears twitched in annoyance as the yellow markings along its body glowed bright. “Umbreon!” it growled.

"Wow..." Alaric muttered. "It's not every day you see an Umbreon, much less a wild one...But I already have one. No need for a second one, really, and my Pokemon are still hurting from the last two battles. Still..." The military man reached into his pack, drawing out something concealed within his clenched hand. "Here ya go, no need to worry; just passing through," he said to the black canine. As he says this, he tosses what was in his hand over to her, revealing that in his hand he was holding some organic Pokemon feed, though it seemed to be homemade, rather than the bland store-bought brand.

"Wow..." Alaric muttered. "It's not every day you see an Umbreon, much less a wild one...But I already have one. The military man reached into his pack, drawing out something concealed within his clenched hand. "Here ya go, no need to worry; just passing through," he said to the black canine. Alaric reached into his back pocket, revealing that he was holding some sort of organic Pokemon feed. He tossed it towards the Umbreon.

The Umbreon looked up, ears standing at attention. However, it pulled back from the tossed food as if it were some sort of hazard. Quickly turning on its tail, the Umbreon retreated farther into the cave, away from the commotion.

"I don't think it liked you," Elijah chuckled, motioning for the group to continue forward. Although the Ranger was leading blind, (as Creshaw's torch was held by Alaric, who was several steps behind), he could see another faint outline ahead. Apparently, this cave attracted those of a Psychic/Dark nature.

The small figure in the cave a few yards away turned to face the intruding group. There was a red bump molded over a green helmet and as the Ranger stepped forth, it began to glow.

"You... you might want to come see this," Elijah whispered, afraid any loud noises may spook this Pokemon off as well.

Alaric sighed and nodded. "Right, military can't please everyone." He continued walking, holding the slow-burning bundle of twigs high above his head so the light could extend far enough ahead for the two humans and Creshaw could see well enough in the dark as they moved towards the cave.

Alaric stopped as the Ranger advanced a little farther ahead of the group, glancing in the direction his gaze was pointed to, and he caught sight of a little figure in the gloom. The small figure in the cave a few yards away turned to face the intruding group. Alaric couldn't make out the shape of the figure very well, but it was small, and as the Ranger stepped forth, something on its head began to glow red.

"You... you might want to come see this," Elijah whispered, afraid any loud noises may spook this Pokemon off as well.

Alaric nodded as he heard the whisper, carefully creeping forward until he stood right behind the Ranger's right side. As he came closer, his eyes widened a bit as he was finally able to make the shape out of the little figure as that of a Ralts. "Of all the luck, this is another rarity, I think," he whispers back.

Slowly, he knelt down, and allowed the Ralts to choose whether to come closer or not; attacking quickly would only make the timid Pokemon either run, or overcompensate in its defense and faint, meaning any chance of capture would be lost. Besides, Alaric liked the idea of finding out what this Ralts thought of him and his personality through that intriguing horn on its head...
