I think Magare brought this up before, but I have no idea where that issue went.
So, make Sleep/Freeze clause compulsory for all battles. Anyone for it?
no, sleep clause is optional already, use if you want, dont use if you dont want.

They decided that it should be optional. And yes, I abuse sleep-inflicting moves and don't really care about fairness. =P

Any threads or something? Either I'm just not paying attention or it doesn't exist. I'm going to argue to the top for this one.

I thought I brought it up way before that, but got shot down because the URPG "was not like Netbattle, and thus should not follow their rules"... months later, Mag brings it up and everyone was like "yeah, true, hmm lets discuss this" :(
I like it Optional, personally.

mana, give me a few situations where sleep clause wouldn't be enforced and there would still be fairness.
Tell me about it.

1v1 battles
both battlers like sleep-whoring
Gym battles that involve a gym leader whose pokemon's best ability (and only one) is sleep powder. *waves*

What's fair? What's the correct definition of fair?
The makers of Pokemon apparently thought it was fair enough even if all your six mons were asleep.
Still, we installed the option of using Sleep Clause so that the battlers could decide for themselves wether to use it or not.

1. ...you wouldn't even use Sleep Clause in that game. One Pokemon on each side means Sleep Clause doesn't have any effect whether it's turned on or not.
2. Wouldn't that be a minority? It'd be easier to have "No Sleep Clause" in these battles than to have "Sleep Clause" in all the other battles.
3. It missed the fairness point right there. Besides, there's so much more Grass Pokemon can do, you know that mana :goofy: Sunny Daying?

Gym leaders set rules for their advantage, since they already have the distinct disadvantage of having all pokemon of 1 type, and no secret to which pokemon they will be using.
And sunny beaming flying types =/= smart. Nor is trying to use Sunny day when you don't own those pokemon :(
As to the second point, nah, not really. You can just make sure it's in the rules when you begin the battle, because I'm sure half the people here wouldn't care much for that clause mandatorily on... Just find ways around it :/

Having an advantage is okay, having an unfair one is not. You don't need strategy to make everybody fall asleep, that's why they have Sleep Clause. Sure, the challenger could sleepwhore too, but if everybody did that, the metagame would be ruined.
Sunnybeaming flying types? Don't quite understand. Do elaborate.
...find ways around it? wut?
Its optional, Raik, you can put it on yourself. And there is no point in arguing, we already decided, and I dont think the magority will be on your side.

Well, when you set the rules that allow whoring, you're gambling that you'd be better at it than the opponent. As the grass leader, I'm banking on Venusaur's sleep powder to hit more often than... say, Hypno's hypnosis or something like that. It's not so much an unfair advantage, because oh look ice, fire, flying, bug things kill a team of 6 grass, no matter what you try. (And no, Cradily does not counter fire nor flying types that are TM'd)
Sunny beaming a flying type is stupid because flying takes 50% from beam anyways, you're better off just using Return. It's even worse if your opponent pulls out a Charizard on ya. Fried carrots, anyone?
And what I mean is, no one would like a mandatory rule that not everyone agree on. Optional is fine as it is, as you wouldn't really want to enforce it unless it's an important battles, and we all know how important half the battles are right now >_> Evolution battles, in particular.
btw Mandatory means cannot be removed no matter what you do.

Stay away from the Trainer's Court if nothing constructive can be provided. There was nobody really defending the Compulsory Sleep Clause side and now there is. Cases can be heard again.

A complete luck-based team still isn't much tactics there. Sure, you could unluckily lose, but you could also luckily win. When a whole game is based on luck, you know it isn't fun anymore.
Oh and... Sunny Day + Chlorophyll = Kickass.

Chlorophyll. Who cares how you deal with the flying type, you just have to be faster than them.

Actually, yes, I was just screwing around. You're right here.
I'd still push for Mandatory if possible though, I'm just going to make all my battles from now Sleep Claused. Gah.

Well, being faster isn't really a counter. Especially when Chlorophyll isn't even on most Grass types (Exeggutor, Vileplume, Victreebel and Jumpluff only, correct me if I'm wrong.) And the middle two blows anyways, and none of them can take a fire hit regardless of being faster. With sleep clause, what're you gonna do, tackle/mega drain? :/

Vile, Bel, Bellossom, Jump, Flora, Shift, Trop
You can hit pretty hard with Shiftry's Extrasensory, well, the others suck, but hey, it's a strategy. If you own a Tropius, you CAN use Earthquake anyway..
EDIT: Okay, I'm closing my case. This whole sleep thing is a f*cking trend and I'm not going to bother playing specific strategies to counter it. Forget it.
