Have you been messing around with Action Replay or Gamesharks?
If yes, it's most likely a bug created by illegal modifications of data.
If no, it's probably either a mysterious item, or a glitch.

Both cases, it's 90% bad luck.

Oh, and make your thread titles descriptive...
"????????????????????????" tells nothing about your problem.

????????? is a common item when messing around using an AR or GS.
Which I'm guessing you were using.


????????? freezes your game if you use it, if I recall correctly.

Well, question answered. Oh, and AR ruins your game. It's best to get everything the long winding and boring way, since it's at least a whole heck of a lot saver.

Try to get rid of that '???????' item, since it'll just do weird things with your game. I think the worst thing that could happen was self-erasing, iirc.
