Neutral Attraction?

According to multiple sources, Staryu and Starmie, despite being genderless, can learn the Attract TM on GSC.

Although I haven't tested this myself, I have a few queries with this.

1) Is it true?

If the answer to the above is yes, then I have another question, and if no, fair enough.

2) What does it attract?

For this question, I can only really think of the above possibilities:

a) It attracts genderless Pokémon...
b) It attracts both male and female Pokémon...
c) It attracts anything...
or d) It doesn't work... period...

I'd be grateful if someone could help me with this.

1) I guess so. My guide says it does... I wouldn't think that's possible but I guess it is.

2) It wouldn't work on anything. Attract is for opposite genders. There is no opposite of genderless...

Well, there are other instances of useless attacks suck as this. Mew can get attract as well. Shedinja gets rest, sub, sandstorm, harden, double-edge, etc for example.

2) They will fail 100% of the time when used.

- On a similar note, Shedninja (the dude with 1HP) gets Double-edge and Substitute in FRLG through Move Tutor, so it's kinda... :sleepy:

Heh... what happens when Shed uses Sub? Does it say Insufficient HP or does it just instantly die? And why would the creators make genderless mon learn Attract? Does it work on other genderless... or does it just fail... blah :P

My initial thought was that it would kill itself but then the next day I remembered that a poke wont make a sub unless it has enough HP... So sub should fail with shedinja.

Double edge might not hurt it for 2 reasons.
1)shedinja's a ghost type

2)Normal dosen't super effect anything.

No, I think it will. It's effect damage from an attack. He's not being hit with a normal attack...

Yeah, a Pokémon's type doesn't affect recoil damage, and the only ability that does is Rock Head, and that prevents it, and Shedinja doesn't get Rock Head (obviously).

... Which makes it completely useless since any attack can deal 1 damage except False swipe.

On the related note, Recoil damage, like struggle, is typeless, and therefore does not suffer from NVE, SE and DNE

Um, why would you want to give it Rock head? It'll die with one hit frm anything with anymove pretty much. o_O

Also, there is another attack that can possibly deal 0 damage, or at least, it did in RBY, and that is Psywave!

Because it deals anything from 0 to 1.5x the user's level, and I personally have seen it hit for nothing.

Shedinja (hacked)
Sableye (hacked so it has better stats and is now half rock)
Glalie (modified the pic so it looks like a charizard cross metagross)
cleffa ( 999 stats on everything :biggrin: )
Deoxys (moveset of my favourite moves:water pulse, substitute, meteor mash and hydro cannon)
finally my all powerful metagross with the ability wonder guard :biggrin: )
