I wonder if this is true because NOM says they have not made any annoucements about it. I hope a new DS comes with more features similar to PSP like music etc without having to buy extra things which don't make it worth the money.

I have been trying to look up the websites about it all year long, and finally, some more new news.

Is a camera function and music playback all that necessary?

That would be pretty cool for a new DS with a lot more capabilities to hit the shelves. Of course, I hope they don't change the entire concept and design of the DS just for new applications.

I'm going to annoy Nintendo about making a Giratina-themed DS. :P

Camera and Music sounds pretty cool, but I am not entirely convinced on this yet. They have'nt gotten a direct interview with Nintendo, so they could have the wrong idea here. And by the end of the year, do they mean 2008? Or 2009? I hope 2008, because then Platinum might come in a DS2 package!

That is the same exact thing I had in mind. I want a new Nintendo DS with the Giratina theme. They already have one for the DS Lite in Japan, but it is in silver.

I was thinking more of a badass black DS with some of Giratina's key physical traits and an emblem of it. Not quite as evil or to engulf the entire DS, but you probably get the idea.

If the DS turned into a PSP-copycat, I'd certainly think more or less of it, but more certain that I'd be buying it. :P

Well, think of the Dialga and Palkia edition DS. (VERY late, but, w/e.) I think they will most certainly make a Giratina version of that.

Like Nintendo would REALLY rehash old, failed ideas.

[UPDATE] Not so fast, says Nintendo of America. In a statement issued to GameSpot, a Nintendo representative labeled Nikkei Net's report as unconfirmed speculation that was not based on any information given out by the Kyoto, Japan-headquartered company.
hurhur. figures.

Today, Japanese news site Nikkei Net (subscription required) is reporting that the time has finally come for Nintendo to roll out another new DS and that the system will arrive in Japan by the end of the year. Planned features for the unnamed DS revision include a camera function, music playback, and improved wireless capabilities.
Ooooh, camera! Ooooooh, music playback! Ooooooooooooooooh, improved wireless capabilities!
I <3 this new DS already.

Just to let you know, Nintendo systems are made it China. But most of the Nintendo games are made in Japan. China always releases Nintendo systems in United States first then Japan. It is kinda hard to believe, but it is true.

Yeah, they better make a new Giratina theme with a black Nintendo DS.

Damnit, no!

I don't want another portable videogame/mp3 player/ camera hybrid!

I'm just god damned happy with the PSP doing that.

AUGH. WHY THE HELL. WHAT. URGH. As long as they don't make special games for this, I'm not touching it. WHY BOTHER. It's just a rip off version of the iPhone, which is a rip off version of the PSP, which is a rip off version of the Internet... >_> The iPhone is useless for whatever you want it for most of the time.

I think that the DS is quite good. Sure, I'd prefer a PSP, but yeah. It's quite alright. I hate the way that companies release new stuff, right after they just released a former console/platform/phone/etc. It's a waste of time and half the time it's just another product with the crap they couldn't fit in the old one!

I think a Nintendo DS is for GAMING. Not for all the stuff they're going to put on it now. What's next, games for the Mac? *shot*

As cool as this sounds the one thing I have to ask though is this the new DS that we need to buy to play the latest games, like the Gameboy Color to the Gameboy Advance, or is it just a new upgrade like the DS Lite?

Probably not. There probably would've been much more news of it if this were the case. Seems as if Nintendo's just upgrading it like the Game Boy Advance SP, DS Lite, etc.

You're contrasting this to the GBA's upgrades?

It's probably a complete overhaul.

I hate it, personally.

Serebii has some news on the new DS (http://www.serebii.net/index2.shtml).

Apparently it's called the DSi. The overall design shaping is carried back from the previous DS predecessors, but the buttons are reformatted amongst other things. It may lack the GBA slot, so instead of throwing my DS to hell, I'm going to keep it. =/ There's a good chance of the DSi having its own kind of "Wiiware" if you know what I mean.

This baby's released in Japan on November 1st, so their decisions are most likely already final. I personally like the looks of where this new DS are going, but there's poor taste in repositioning buttons.

DS - First DS model was chubbier than the rest but had a relatively good formatting. Select and Start buttons could of used some work on.

Power button was above D-Pad. *
Stylus was in the back, easy to get out using right hand. *
Select and Start buttons were above D-Pad. *
Microphone is onto the bottom right hand side. *

DS Lite - Current, popular DS model with a smaller figure and literally new feel to it. To me, perhaps the DS Lite was too smooth and fingerprints and smudges were too easy to identify off the bat, making it look ugly. But that's just my opinion, I don't own a Lite myself.

Power button was to the right-hand side. Wtf? *
Stylus was to the right-hand side. *
Select and Start buttons were located vertically aligned below the A-B-X-Y buttons. *
Microphone is located in between the top and bottom sections. *

DSi - Newest model that's birth will become a blessing to the gaming world and a living hell to my pocket change. Its going to focus more on media and its own Wiiware type of thing.

Power button is located below D-Pad. Wtf x2? *
Stylus....don't know yet. *
Select and Start buttons are essentially located under the A-B-X-Y buttons as with the Lite's case. *
Microphone is located in between sections. But it's bigger, so: *
NO GBA SLOT? WTF x10 *****

I much prefer a combination of the original DS' Power button and the DS Lites/DSi's Select and Start button placements. The Microphone should butt out more so it's easier to blow into it. Overall, I hope this new DS is worth getting once we get full specs of it.

DSi will likely not support GBA game compatibility. That leaves little room for wild Pokemon to appear with the presence of a GBA game inserted. =/ Hopefully everything else that is new will compensate for this loss.

My idea, however, is that because GBA compatibility has been lost during the transition into DSi, games such as R/S/E and FR/LG will become "DSi-ware", downloadable through points and automated into the DSi's system. If my assumptions are correct, then something similar to a memory card will accompany the DSi.

Thanks for the news, but I don't get it. China usually gives Nintendo systems to the U.S. first. The Wii relased in U.S. first. Nintendo DS (regular one) released in U.S. first.

Hey, here is the catch, since this is comming out in North America in early 2009, they might make a Platinum Version package with the DSi. I really hope it is in black with that package.

Most things are made in China because of such available resources. China also makes a good portion of its economic industry off of manufacturing products for companies, so it's a symbiotic relationship of sorts.

*Inner Nintendo-fanboy makes a high-pitched squeal* That would be badass. I hope they do make a bundle-set, because that would be epic. The downside....no GBA insertion activity. DSiWare will have to make up for this loss.

Yeah, thanks for info the.

Yeah, when I first heard that it won't have GBA slot, I wonder how the creators will fix how to get unobtainable pokemon, like the starters, while using the new ds. My first thought was that they was going to remake G/S/C. But downloading the games to the DSi-ware will be much better. (even though I still want g/s/c remakes >.<)

Well, I suppose it's wrong to make such a big deal out of losing the GBA slot. Despite having lost backwards compatibility, Nintendo is taking the DSi in the right direction. It's pointless to take up room for a gaming generation that no longer has new releases. Nintendo excluded GBA compatibility for a much bigger, newer approach onto 7th generation gaming.

Platinum was released before the announcing of the DSi and its possible that Game Freak was not alerted of the third platform. There's also a chance that current DS games can be inserted into future portable handhelds by Nintendo, whereas then it can also be considered backwards compatibility (Way into the future, people).

News

It has been confirmed that the DSi can download and store games from the online DS Shop. A built-in web browser is the used method for accessing it. The system uses points and works the same way as it does with the Wii. Sadly, it won't make it for Christmas and will be released in 2009, estimated pricing predicted to be around 180 U.S.D.
