An Introduction
On another forum I frequented, a game style known as roulette battle was highly popular over Wi-Fi but never particularly caught on over Shoddy Battle. It involved each player picking numbers at random, with each number corresponding to a Pokémon in their opponent’s box. These Pokémon would then make up the participants team, with the player having to adapt to the line-up they have chosen. It was deemed quite a skilful game, due to the players learning to work with what they are given despite a possible lack of team synergy, and form strategies and the like on the spot.
This tournament style aims to emulate that over Shoddy Battle, with a few differences. Due to the complicated nature of the tournament, this is somewhat of a guinea pig and will only consist of eight players.
The Format
1. Upon signing up and being confirmed as part of the roster, each participant will submit to me via PM a list of twelve pre-determined Pokémon of their choice with movesets, item, nature ect, each with a designated number, along with their email address (Needed for reasons below. I will not tell anybody else the email address or send it any mail not regarding the tournament). If a player is uncomfortable giving me their email address, I have reserved a number of unused email addresses that can be used instead.
2. Upon all tournament slots being filled, matchups will be randomly decided.
3. When your matchup has been decided, each player will PM me with five numbers between one and twelve, with each corresponding to one of their opponents predetermined movesets.
4. I will then inform the opponent of which of their sets have been chosen. In the interest of adding an element of strategy, the player will then be asked to select the final member of their team themselves, as well as who they would like to occupy their lead slot.
5. To ensure the teams are correctly composed, I will construct them myself and email the shoddy file to each player. Players will email me their battle logs after the game to ensure no adjustment has been made.
6. Armed with the necessary information and teams, it is now up to the players to schedule and play their battles. Results of the battles can be published in the thread, while battle logs can either be sent to me via PM or via email.
7. Winners will move on, losers will be eliminated in typical knockout fashion.
Tournament Rules
1. 50 Post Rule- No player may enter without having made 50 legitimate posts in the PE2K forums
2. Smogon Server- All battles will be held on smogon university’s shoddy server.
3. Standard clauses in effect- The following clauses will be used when battling:
-This is an OU tournament and Smogon's tiers will be used, ubers are banned (Current uber tier can be found at www.smogon.com/dp/tiers/uber )
-Species Clause
-OHKO Clause
-Evasion Clause
-Hax Item Clause
-Strict Damage Clause
-Sleep Clause
-Soul Dew Clause
-Timed Battle Clause
4. Stay on topic and mind your grammar- This thread is for discussion of the tournament only, no clogging it with any off-topic posts. Likewise please make sure your posts are legible and adhere to the standard 25 char/4 word rule enforced by the site’s admin.
5. My word is final- I will not be participating in this tournament myself. This tournament’s structure is complicated and with several things going on at once, I will not be playing to ensure that all teams are constructed quickly, all matches are arranged properly and so on. I will acting as an impartial mediator should any disputes pop up, as well as ensuring no foul play is afoot when choosing your opponent’s teams (aka I’m not slipping anybody anyone else’s lineups or letting people pick their own). As such recognise that the work I’ve put in allows me to see what’s going on, and trust my decisions.
Good Luck!
