Creative topic, there. I'd say... Pikachu? He was pretty good as a starter on Pokemon Yellow wasn't he? And he isn't really considered as one of the starters since he can also be caught in nature.

Buttefree's good, but if you start with only a Caterpie you'll get nowhere. I found Wooper to be good when starting out.

In Diamond, Spinx makes an awesome non-starter starter Pokemon.

Well, tailow and pidgey were always a help to me....especially if you chose a grass or water starter.

Abra. his final form, Alakazam, is absurdly good. Put up with his low HP, Atk and Def, and get a treat with incredible Sp. Atk and Speed.

I have an EV trained one, LV. 100, and it's IV's aren't even perfect; It's Sp. Atk is 403. Now that's good.

And, Abra is common! Tricky to catch, easy to kill but it Teleports... But common and powerful!

Others include Staryu, Whismer, Spheal, Ralts (kinda rare), Vulpix, Dratini (coin exchange), Tailow... Just open your mind - And a few web browsers - And explore the possibilities!!!

Eevee like in Pokemon XD. I would also like Sneasel, Buneary, or Glameow as my starter.

I'd love to start with something like Gastly. Or maybe a Dratini. I don't think the rest of the basics are suitable for me as starters.

Don't dare to quote or reply to me, Jake. :P

Try Zubat. Being a fast pokemon, you can always get the first hit to gain the upperhand.

Gastly, and ghost Pokemon in general are weak and overrated. (Samething goes with dark Pokemon) However, Dragon Pokemon would be total win as a starters. So yeah, I'd prefer Dratini.

Gengar's not too bad, but dark Pokemon really do have a lot of disadvantages.

my guess would be Zubat so he can evolve into Crobat and learn fly or Starly so he can evolve into Mukuhawk.

if you're talking about DP, I think Buizel would be good or, again, Starly.

if it's not DP you're talking about, try Wurmple and evolve it into Beautifly or try Pidgey for Pidgeot.

my guesses.

That's what I was going to say, the first thing I do when I get to Viridian Forest in Fire Red is catch me a Pikachu.

I'm guessing you mean aganist dark pokemon Gengar has lots of disadvantages. Since Gengar isn't a dark type. XD

Anyways, Electric, Water, Fire, and Flying (Plus uber types like Ghost, Psychic, and Dragon), are generally good starters, as long as they have more than one stage.
