Default Cool Books Discussion

Anyone ever read any good books that are worth discussion?

Like certain serieses that are good?

Right now I'm working on the Series Of Unfortunate Events series.

Anyone working on any good books or need help with book reports, let me know.

A thread being considered dead is after it hasn't been posted in for a month. Just for saying that, I'll post in the right thread.

Well, lately I have been extremely inclined to read books about card counting.

Bringing Down the House and Busting Vegas are currently very good.

Check them out if you like math and money.

1984 by George Orwell deserves a place among "Cool Books".

Lol, I've read a ton of books, let me give you my favourites; The Troy Game by Sara Douglass, Axis Trilogy by Sara Douglass, Wayfarer Redemption (Continues from Axis, in America, sometimes the series are called just the Wayfarer Redemption as one) by Sara Douglass. And the new series, Darkglass Mountain (It's a real ripper.)

All book of Sara Douglass and the books I mention are for Teens and above, so, swearing, sexual innuendo, etc.

Adults only; The Kushiel's Trilogy and Imriel's Trilogy, by Jacqueline Carey, about 15+. Sex scenes and a very complex plot, uses old/present french, italian, greek, other European languages.

For Younger; Chronicles of Ancient Darkness, by Michelle Paver is really great, Ice/Stone Age kind of setting, it's a great series.

Children of the Red King, by Jenny Nimmo, good books for 10+

Guardians of Ga'Hoole, by Kathryn Lasky, this is a great series about owls, the last (?) book is coming out this year!

Redwall Series, by Brian Jacques, teen-ish readers, it's a bit of a furry series, tiny bit based on Religion.

Warriors Series by Erin Hunter, The second series is SO hard to come by, the first series are everywhere, no trouble finding them, 8-10+.

Twilight Series, by Stephenie Meyer, this is a definite teens series and books, it's a beautiful romance of an average girl, who falls in love with a vampire. Werewolves are there too, it's a great insight to a different vampire-werewolf novel, not completely horror. Twilight, the first book will be made into a movie, which will be out in 2009-2010.

Harry Potter by J.K Rowling, it's ok... Magic lovers would like it, but it's a little bit predictable.

The Fire (I don't know the real series title, but all the titles have the word 'fire' in them, so I'm calling it The Fire series.) Series by Chris D'Lacey is a really great series, for about 8-10+, dragons aplenty! Not to mention the squirrels and occasional hedgehog.

The Foretelling by Alice Hoffman is a really nice teen book, about a girl, who is the neglected daughter of a tribal chief in the Amazon, so, it's a girl book.

Cry of the Icemark by Stuart Hill, another good teen book, I think it has a sequel? Not too sure, but it's a good book, giant leopards, werewolves, and an evil foreign army.

North Child, by Edith Pattou, lovely book about a Njorden girl, who leaves home with a mysterious white (MAGIC) polar bear to save her family from starvation and poverty. Lovely ending.

Discworld series, by Terry Pratchett, awesome teenage reading, typical Sci-Fi-Fantasy, but with the awesome twists only Terry Pratchett can come up with.

Need I mention, THE DARWIN AWARDS? Not a novel, but an interesting series of random idiots, who remove themselves from the gene pool (Kill themselves) in the most ridiculous and stupid ways possible.

For Adults; The Earth's Children Series, by Jean M. Auel, Set in the Ice Age, we follow the journey of Ayla, a girl who is adopted by a group of Neanderthals when her family was killed in a large earthquake. Sex scenes and adult themes.

Tamora Pierce books, just any of them are great for teenage, 10+ girls, good read, awesome plots.

There's something you can sink your teeth into. Hard to get a good list of books around.

Oh, a new one I read a preview of by a critic, it's called Floodtide, by Judy Nunn, it's new, and I'm going to go and look for it at the first chance I get! It's for adults, a few sex scenes, but I like the plot, two country boys with giant dreams, and girls.

Scuse the long post, but that's just some of the good books from my shelf, which is about 1.5m high ^_^

I've read a lot of books that I think are really cool, most of them series. Some of them:

- The "Maximum Ride" Series by James Patterson: I just love them, they really hooked me and I read each of the four books in one sitting, I could not put them down.

- The "Harry Potter" Series by J.K. Rowling: Hey, what can I say? They are popular for a reason. Fantansy and magic not to mention the plots are really awesome mixed in with detail only true fans can see.

- The "Circle of Magic, The Circle Opens" Series by Tamora Pierce: My friend got me hooked into these books about two years ago and I can see why. The style is just really professional and the plots of them are really thought out. Not to mention the characters, I fall in love with them every time I read the books.

Currently, I am reading the "The Keys to the Kingdom" Series by Garth Nix. I read "Mister Monday" (friend lend it to me) and "Grim Tuesday" (have it) and I just love them mainly because of the fantasy and beacuse the main character is so down to earth. I really want to buy "Drowned Wednesday" and, if I have enough money, "Sir Thursday". =3
