Default Mission Trial - Prelude: Eccentric Lunatics

Roster

The Story So Far...

Although this has not been stated previously, the Park is located on a large island. The island is a near the Orange Islands, but distant enough to not be considered a part of them. It is a wild frontier in which pokemon of all types live, free from human interference. Every possible terrain can be found here and it is rumored that even rare pokemon make their homes here. In the Pokemon Park, anything is possible.

You are one of a few people who have managed to hear about The National Park and have decided to visit it for one reason or another. Perhaps you desire to catch rare pokemon. Maybe you wish to try to photograph unique and interesting species. Or you just simply wished to get away from it all and go on an adventure. The Park offers many opportunities for all.

A small ferry set off from Mandarin island early this morning. It takes a good 16 hours of travel to reach the Park by boat and no intelligent trainer would attempt to fly to it over open, untested water. The skipper, Captain Mary Tavler, owns this particular vessel, the S.S. Krabby. It is even painted the proper bright red of an actual Krabby, complete with a Krabby logo on the side.

Talking with Captain Tavler gives you the impression that she is not only a Krabby fanatic, but also long-winded. She bores you to tears about her latest Krabby expedition in which she climbed Mt. Coronet in search of rare Mountain Krabby. Unfortunately, she had not found any, but she is determined to keep searching for the most unique Krabby in the world. She is told that The National Park has some of the rarest Krabby in the world and she will catch those Krabby no matter what. Unfortunately, as she finishes her rededication, she punches down on the ship’s wheel, sending the ship spinning sharply to the starboard.

Luckily, you managed to hold onto the cabin door instead of being thrown out over the rail into the sea. The old man who was standing outside, however, was not so lucky. He tumbled right over. After a quick rescue operation that involved a few water pokemon, a life jacket, an emergency float, and a lot of tugging; the old man managed to climb back onboard. Captain Tavler, sporting a bright red blush, apologized over and over to the man. Luckily, the old man laughed it off, finding the small adventure to be... exhilarating.

The rest of the trip managed to be uneventful, with Tavler carefully guiding her vessel this time. You start to question your luck. Sure, you managed to find the only ship heading to The National Park this week, but will you live to see the Park? Luckily, you arrive safely.

Tavler guides the Krabby to the wooden dock jutting out from the island’s beach, carefully bringing the boat to the side. Moments later, you find yourself walking down the wooden plank onto the dock. The sea sways gently beneath you. Turning east, you see the sun slowly start to set in the distance. It’s been a long day and you try to stifle a yawn, but fail.

That is when you hear a voice. You turn around towards the beach and notice someone running towards you. As he approaches, you notice him wearing what appears to be black khaki pants and a red vest over a white shirt. A top his head is a brown Ranger’s hat, though it appears to be falling off as the man erratically jogs toward you. He seems frantic, waving his arms back and forth.

You, and the others who have accompanied you, pace onto the beach toward the man. He looks frantic as he runs up to you.

"You... are... trainers?" he pants fervently, "Right?"

You and a few others nod, visibly worried.

"Good," he replies, "You need to come with me... We have a situation."

The sun sets behind you.

Getting Started

Like I mentioned, please try and figure out a party name. That way I don't have to keep referring to you as Party A. It adds to the "awesomeness" of the plot. Feel free to post here to start discussing a name.

Oh em gee, it's finally up.

I find it funny how the teams are Party 1 and Party A. You'd think they'd be, like, Party 1 and 2 or party A and B. xP

As for a team name... MK's Team of Godliness The Awesome Musketeers? [/lame]

EDIT: Looking at the other team's roster, I noticed that our team is generally younger, so maybe 'The Young 'Uns?' :x

i think harry didn't want to make team B feel inferior to team A, so it was A and 1...

and personally, i like the first one better than the second (but that's just me...)

lol, I missed 4 of our 7 hours by being at my Gma's house and doing her yardwork for Mother's day.

Hmm... Perhaps we ought to name our team... uhh... *brain collapse* ...

! how about the "Wraiths" or the "Merry Men"? it looks as though a majority of our group is Chaotic Good, me, TT, and Cipher lord. MK is the only lawful good, lol.

I would also like to call attention to the fact that Eraizaa-kun said he wouldn't be back until the 26th or so... him missing the first week or more of the RP isn't a big deal, then it won't matter, but it could...
Yay for mostly Chaotic team who's name hasn't been established yet!!!

EDIT: lol, I found a fantasy 'team name generator' and it output the "Eccentric Lunatics" I like it!

The Story Begins

Tavler volunteers to stay behind in order to properly dock her ship. The old man agrees to assist her, stating he would slow the group down.

You follow the ranger, eyeing him with curiosity. You all pace quickly as he moves feverishly forward. His feet leave scattered imprints in the sand, forming a zig-zagging trail of dots.

You look at him. He’s short, maybe 5’3, with a neck-length, black hair waving about, his brown fedora long fallen around his neck. His clothes are bunched up, something you would expect after he ran so urgently towards you. Patches of dirt and grass stains mark his Ranger Uniform.

He glances back towards the party. You can see a look of fear in his eyes.

“We’re in a crisis,” he informs you, nervously, “We’re under attack.”

He points down towards the beach. You scan your eyes forward, trying to pierce the coming darkness, but can’t see more than the outline of the water and the nearby trees that follow the coast.

“Up there is my assignment, Outpost 1,” he continues, “It’s the head outpost on the island where all the decisions are made for the Park. We’re not open yet, but I’m glad you’ve come! We’re in trouble and we need your help.”

He glances back forward, then glances back.

“We have to hurry,” he babbles out, still a little out of breath, “Grass pokemon are attacking everyone and they even managed to destroy the radio. We can’t call for help and there are only a few of us! We won’t be able to see in the dark and I’m worried that they could overwhelm us! That’s why we need your help.”

That’s when you hear an explosion ahead of you.

“Oh no!” he screams and runs towards the noise.

OOC: It's going to take a few minutes to run to the site so feel free to talk or shout as is the case. This is roleplaying too.

Also, feel free to continue discussing your party's name in OOC. You want to differentiate yourself from the other group. It also helps establish your identity.

Things will get more intense as the roleplay continues. Please include some descriptions of your character so the other party members know a bit of what you look like without having to refer back to your SU. Good luck.

OOC: Yay for lawful good xD And I like 'The Eccentric Lunatics', so I'm all for that! ^^

Is there a certain PoV we need to roleplay from? I'm going to do it in first person for now...

IC:

I silently followed the Ranger from the ship, trying to make myself inconspicuous amongst the five-or-so other people who claimed to be trainers. I wasn't completely sure whether this was some kind of joke, something they did to all of the arrivals to the island, but as he explained more about it, it started to cross my mind that this could be for real. I was a bit irritated that the Ranger had drawn me away from my original purpose on this island; I wanted to capture rare Pokemon, perhaps maybe even discover new ones.

The cold night air made me shiver, so I zipped up my blue jacket. I was half-asleep and all I wanted to do was find somewhere to rest, but instead, I was being ushered to some 'Outpost 1' to deflect attacking Grass Pokemon. I did grin to myself at that; I specialise in training Ice-type Pokemon and three of the Pokemon I brought to this island with me are Ice type. It's common knowledge to everyone that Ice moves can hit Grass type Pokemon with extra damage than usual. As an added bonus, I also have a Fire-type, which is my Arcanine. Fire is also dominant over Grass.

I wasn't really paying attention to the Ranger's ramblings, just taking in information that I considered to be 'key information', such as the attacking type being Grass, but I soon snapped into focus when the ground shook beneath me. A loud 'boom' rumbled from up ahead. The night sky was illuminated momentarily, a bright white. I shivered again, not due to the cold this time.

“Oh no!” the Ranger shouted. He started racing towards the direction it had come from.

"Hey... wait! What's happened? What was that?" I bombared questions to the Ranger. I immediately regretted that, having brought attention to myself amongst the group. Sighing, I ran after the Ranger, curious to see what had happened to make him so frantic. I could guess what the rumble was, but I wanted to make sure, and since the Ranger was too busy running to answer my worries, I turned to one of the other trainers.

"Excuse me..." God, why was I so polite? " I was wondering... what was that noise?"

OOC: I don't mind who it is that answers Mark. And sorry this is kinda short, I didn't want to just storm ahead with the Ranger and leave everyone else lagging behind. Like I said before, yay for lawful good xD

I watched the ranger as we ran along in the dimness of the night. He looked out of shape, he was brething too hard and moving his arms without the right rythm to keep his running steady and eficient.

I absorbed the information he was dishing out, loving every second of it, knowing that what was going to be a pointless and all together frustrating vacation had suddenly turned into another mission, one where I didn't have to decide what it was I was going to do. Those were my favorite kinds.

Grass pokemon; we needed to be sure we weren't running right into a crafty trap with it being night. I released Maximillian from his Poke ball as we jogged slowly through the night, quickly giving him the scout signal before he zoomed off into the darkness, he was much faster than us, and the night swallowed up his stealthy form in seconds.

I turned my head in the darkness as we ran, trying to asess the group around me, sizing up the other passengers from the ship for the first time. I hadn't had any reason to interact with them before, and this is the first chance I'd taken to evaluate their potential.

Almost instantly however, a loud explosion rang through the darkness, and my eyes snapped towards the direction of the sound, barely glimpsing the short flash of light at the source.

The ranger doubled his pace, his form actually becoming a little more smooth and correct when he started outright running. His agonized cry rang through the night, and I struggled not to smile at his lack of composure. I sped up slightly to keep pace, and shifted my pack higher up on my back to keep the movement to a minimun, make my travel quiet.

Someone next to me spoke. I ignored him at first, but a second later, I realized that he was addressing me!

"Excuse me... I was wondering... what was that noise?" he said confusedly. I shook my head in silent amazement. Was he completely daft? I looked him over quickly. He had his jacket zipped; at least it was serving it's purpose, and not making unecessary noise, like the ranger's was, flapping uselessly as he ran.

"Explosion, probably gas tanks or eggxecute." I said shortly, before turning to look where I was running again.

Already, I was trying to decipher what would be the best method for combating grass pokemon in the night. I had a few ideas; Crobat could probably guard a single doorway alone; he was fast and airborne, able to see in the night with echo location. Ephriam would probably be able to take a door as well. Alphonse would be far too slow to be effective in the situation I had imagined we would be entering, and it wasn't likely there would be enough water for Caulder to be any help. Togepi was too young, wouldn't do any good to have her stumbling around in the night, so that just left Maximillian.

I knew that the Sneasel wouldn't like being asked to guard a door, I thought about what he could do to make the situation better and still feel comfortable. My Lure kit! I new I had a few scents in there that grass pokemon found extremely intoxicating, nigh unignorable. I could give Max a few, and he would go and dump some of the contents behind the force of attacking pokemon, probably distracting a good number, maybe even causing some brawling among themselves.

I then started to wonder about the motives behind the attack. Was the reasoning strong enough that such a tactic would have no effect on the enraged pokemon? It was unlikely, but I didn't yet know the reason behind the attack; I rushed forward until I was in front of the ranger.

"Stop!" I bellowed at him, grabbing the short guy around the middle as he tried to barrel past me. Not only did we need to know the whole story, but rushing in without a plan like this would likely get us killed.

"I know we're in a hurry," I started, "but this is insane. Why are the Pokemon attacking, and what's our plan. We won't help anyone if we all get killed within seconds of showing up."

ooc: Eccentric Lunatics works for me ^^

btw, i hate rping in first person, so unless harry says i have to do otherwise, i'm going third

bic: Clay listened intently at what the ranger was saying, he didn't want to miss anything that was said that might prove to his advantage later on. However, as soon as the man mentioned Grass types, Clay had to sigh at his luck. He was in an area with hostile Grass Pokemon, and all his Pokemon were sandstorm based.

He quickly decided of all of his Pokemon, Empoleon would be the best to fight Grass types and he started to reach for his belt to grab the penguin's Pokeball. Before he could grab the ball, he heard a loud noise coming from up ahead. Clay's head snapped up as he tried to determine what the noise had come from.

Before he could try to determine exactly what had caused the noise, the Ranger yelled and started running off. Now it was perfectly clear what had happened, the attacking Pokemon must have blown up part or all of the outpost.

As the ranger ran off, one of the other trainers followed him and the trainer sent out a Pokemon, although Clay hadn't been able to see exactly what it was. Not wanting to just be left behind, Clay started to jog behind the three, however, he didn't try all that hard to catch up. As he was jogging along, Clay grabbed Empoleon's Pokeball, and pressed the button in the middle once, enlarging the Pokeball. He wanted to avoid flash of red light that normally accompanied the releasing of a Pokemon from its ball.

Suddenly, the man that was following the ranger jumped in front of him, stopping him and started asking the ranger what was going on. Wanting not to run ahead of the ranger, and also to hear what the ranger was saying, Clay slowed his pace and soon he was right behind the ranger and the other man, still with a tight grasp on Empoleon's Pokeball.

ooc: sorry about the semi-shortness...

OOC: Lulz, "Eccentric Lunatics" sounds funny as hell. I'm all for it! 8D

***

IC: Wow, this trip was getting off to a real fun start. Not only did the captain of the ship ramble incessantly about Krabby (which in my opinion were only useful when cooked and dipped in melted butter), but she also managed to knock some unfortunate old guy over the rail of the ship after spinning the wheel too hard. And now this.

The Ranger was already out of breath before the explosion rocked the area, and I was pretty sure he'd be sorely winded when he finally came to a stop to catch his breath. Three others followed after him, some of them speaking as they ran. I couldn't hear exactly what they were saying over the echoes of the detonation, so instead I trotted along with them.

Then one of the guys started yelling and ran faster to catch up with the Ranger, moving in front of him and grabbing the Ranger to keep him from dodging away. I hurried to catch up as the man said, "I know we're in a hurry, but this is insane. Why are the Pokemon attacking, and what's our plan. We won't help anyone if we all get killed within seconds of showing up." He had a point there, and getting murdered by a bunch of crazy Pokemon wasn't really on my to-do list.

Before the Ranger had a chance to answer, I spotted movement near one of the trees a few yards away, to my left. I squinted to try and make it out, but in the gloom of twilight I couldn't identify it. I felt a shiver run down my spine, though, and had a feeling we were running right into a trap. The movement by the tree had ended, and I supposed whatever had been shuffling around had hidden behind the giant plant.

"Guys," I called in a loud whisper, not wanting my voice to carry and possibly reach (and alert) whatever was hiding behind the tree. As I peered into the darkness, a strand of my dark red hair fell into my teal eyes, and I brushed it away with a scowl. "I think we might be heading into a trap. I saw something moving by that tree over there, but I couldn't see it. Maybe rushing to whatever just got blown up isn't the smartest idea." I paused and glanced at the others, noticing thick, oily black smoke rising into the air maybe half a mile away from where we were. It was impossible to judge actual distance though, but one thing I knew for certain was that whatever had been attacked was now burning.

Like I said, real fun start...

OOC: Appreciate the assistance, Jess, but I would prefer if you didn't put random things in random places. I'll use it for now, but in the future, unless your own pokemon are rustling in the bushes, then please don't have something there.

In addition, you do not see a column of smoke. Not yet anyway. You're too far from the outpost and it's too dark. Please don't mention something that hasn't been described yet.

On another note, it is currently early night. The sun has already set behind the horizon and the only light comes from whatever the sky reflects. You cannot currently see the moon.

Now that the Ranger has stopped running, you can hear past the wind. The gentle waves rush back and forth along the beach, echoing Wingulls retiring for the night. A slight breeze blows a salty mist across your nose.

IC:

Brian manages to hook his arm around the small Ranger, swinging him to a halt. Unfortunately, the Ranger loses his footing, and falls face first unto the sand. He lies there a for a moment, helplessly, then slowly lifts himself up. Thin grains of sand cover his face as if a thin powder.

He looks at Brian, and tears well up in his eyes

"I'm... I'm sorry," he mumbled, "I didn't mean to... I mean, I didn't..."

More tears well up.

"I'm sorry!" he finally cries, and tears stream down his face, moistening the sand dust upon it. His crying intensifies.

"I..." he blubbers, "It happened... *sniff*... so fast. *sniff*. And they started attacking us! With their vines and leaves and roots and... and... and..."

He breaks down, crying a bit more.

"And I was scared!" he wailed, tears impossibly falling from his eyes, "And they kept attacking us. And they didn't listen to us! And we didn't do anything!"

"Why are they attacking us!?"

Default Re: Mission Trial - Prelude: Party A

had simply followed silently as the other children blabbered away. They were all younger than me, and infinitely more immature. I had a temptation to decapitate one of the children, Johnny. This was a serious moment; we didn’t have time to play around with introductions. I simply took in the information: the idiot rangers didn’t have enough gall to fight off a bunch of Grass Pokemon. Grass Pokemon? The wimps, the idiots! How can you lose to a bunch of Grass type Pokemon? I looked at the horizon, the setting sun. Rays of orange, red, and purple lights played with my eyes, and I averted my eyes.

Wind slashed my dark red hair, and it whipped across my face and over my eyes. I wiped it away, and found the ranger we were following was on the ground, crying.

"I'm... I'm sorry," he mumbled, "I didn't mean to... I mean, I didn't..." I grabbed my falchion, ready to attack him. "I'm sorry! I... It happened... *sniff*... so fast. *sniff*. And they started attacking us! With their vines and leaves and roots and... and... and..."

At this, I actually started to unsheathe my blade at this, and my hand loosened, ready to play with my sword a bit.

"And I was scared!" he wailed, tears impossibly falling from his eyes, "And they kept attacking us. And they didn't listen to us! And we didn't do anything! Why are they attacking us!?"

And then I couldn’t control myself anymore. I pulled my blade out in a shower of cold, grey, steel, and I slashed the top part of his fedora off. Then I flicked it into the air, and sliced it four times. “You weakling, you idiot,” I screamed, flecks of spit flying from my mouth. “Why are you doing this to us. Your problems are none of ours, but nevertheless, I will help. But only, remember this,” I now brought my voice down to a near whisper, loud enough for everyone to hear, but soft in reality, “I am only helping because I know that if I leave it to these idiots, there will only be bloodshed and death.”

At this, I played barber with the ranger’s hair. I cut off bits and pieces, shaved it close at parts, and misshapen at others. And the idiot cried some more. I hated him, I hated this, but I would do it. “Now get up before I really lose my temper and stab you, you jelly spined, backless weakling,”

OOC: Heh, unique people for unique places. I like the roleplaying though. I would not imagine that to have occurred in this situation. You guys have surprised me and I like it. This is going to be fun.

Slice. Definitely playing chaotic good. Very nice.

IC:

"Now get up before I really lose my temper and stab you, you jelly spined, backless weakling," Slice menaced at the ranger.

The ranger shut up, and his tears stopped. Nervously, he looked up into the swordsman's eyes. He held it for a moment, then looked down.

There was a pause before he stood up.

"Yo- You're right," he stammered as he wiped the tears and sand from his eyes, leaving brown streaks across his face. Had the situation not been serious, he would have looked hilarious. His semi-long hair now hung raggedly around his head, with many parts of it cut off randomly. A nearly-bald patch clung near his forehead.

The ranger looked at Slice, seemingly in thought for a moment. Looking at him, there was something about how the ranger seemed to gaze at the swordsman that seemed different.

"I... I will start at the beginning," he finally sputtered. "It's what my brother would do."

He looked further down the beach and stifled a sniffle.

"A- Around noon, without warning, several grass pokemon emerged from the forest and started attacking the rangers at the outpost. *sniff*. W- We fought back with our own pokemon, but more and more seemed to come. As if in endless waves.

*sniff*

Before we could call for help, one of those pokemon, I think a Tropius, had *sniff* destroyed the radio antenna. It wouldn't work after that. Not enough to reach Outpost 4, the nearest ranger station.

*sniff*

Bu- But, we managed to hold out for the most part. We're trained and we have strong pokemon! *sniff*

Ranger Reynolds, h- he's the ranger in charge of Outpost 1, told everyone that we only needed to *sniff* hold out until the night. Then it would be easier to fight the grass pokemon, which rely on sunlight.

*sniff*

We've already tried to talk with them, even with other grass pokemon. They don't seem to listen and our own grass pokemon are on edge. *sniff* They can't fight properly and seem to always be distracted. We haven't had a chance to figure it out yet. Not with all the fighting.

*sniff*

I... I don't know what else to say."

He stares at the party.

"But we could really use your help. If you need to know anything, please ask me!"

He sniffles, then looks up in surprise, "Oh! I forgot to introduce myself! I'm sorry! I'm Tommy. Tommy Setton!"

OOC: Well, well, Slice.

Seems like you made an impression on this Ranger. Quite interesting.

Default Re: Mission Trial - Prelude: Party A

"Well, I'm going to help you." I stated simply. I glanced at the dude with the sword, slightly annoyed, before continuing. "I'm sure if we work together and get things figured out, we can maximize our chances at pulling this off."

I stopped talking and looked around at the small group of trainers that we had. It looked as though we were seriously lacking in numbers, it was clear we lacked the capacity for a front on assault.

"First things first." I stated as I let Crobat loose from his pokeball, the dim red light momentarily disrupting my vision. "Crobat, I want you to keep watch for us while we talk; if anything other than Max comes our way, I want to know about it."

The Crobat gave his customary bob indicating he understood before flitting a short distance away and moving around us, our own sentry.

"Now, we need to get quick introductions and pool our resources; Just state your name, occupation, which Pokemon you have with you, and anything else that might be useful. Hopefully we have plenty of resurces that we'll be able to use in order to effectively neutralize this threat.

I'll start. My name is Brainy, and I'm a Pokemon Capture Specialist. I have with me, an Alakazam, Sneasel, Crobat, Gyarados, Togepi, and a Rhydon. Max, the Sneasel, already went ahead to scout out the situation and keep an advance watch should anything be lying in wait for us." I looked at the group, which seemed surprisingly calm, as I shifted my pack and grabbed out a few vials from the lure kit.

"I also have these chemicals here. They're a compound designed to be particularly alluring to Grass type Pokemon. Normally, any in half a mile should come running once I take the stoppers off these babies, but I worry that they may be less effective in this situation. We don't know as yet the motivation behind the attack, but it would be safe to assume that they won't falter to stop and smell the roses.

We should also keep moving, but slowly. Running won't make us all that much faster in the long run, and if we move at a reasonable pace, we can discuss our options and keep from running headlong into some sort of trap."

I shifted uncomfortably as I finished, no longer having anything to say, though people were still looking at me. I nodded randomly to the person standing on my right, hoping that they would start talking and take the attention off of me. I really didn't enjoy having to supply the group's common sense; hopefully someone else here would be full of it and willing to take the reigns; Hack-Happy would definitely need some looking after if nothing else.
