IGN: Pokemon 10-Year Retrospective! -09/28/06- |
Gaming site IGN posted an article about the 10th anniversary of Pokemon: From IGN: It's happening again. You shouldn't be surprised. You know how successful they've been - how deeply ingrained they've become. You knew it was only a matter of time before they, the Pokemon, mounted yet another invasion. Now it's happening again, and you'd do well to prepare yourself. The fourth generation in the Pokemon series debuts in Japan this week, with the release of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl on the Nintendo DS. The new adventures follow the long-established Pokemon RPG formula, adding new monsters to catch and new ways to interact with other players - like Nintendo Wi-Fi support. The games are expected to sell millions in Japan, as well as here in the States - but American gamers will have to wait. Diamond and Pearl won't be coming to other markets until next year. Because waiting is hard to do, we present this retrospective. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Pokemon series, and the brand has proven its staying power over the past decade with the release of over 30 different handheld and console titles. Here, in chronological order by release, is a look back on the history of the entire series, and IGN's coverage of each game. Click the boxarts to jump to our reviews, and the screenshots to head to our media pages. The next invasion is coming - it's happening again. You'd do well to prepare yourself. --- Pokemon came out of nowhere 10 years ago. No one thought its popularity would last. They called it a fad, they predicted its downfall. But Pikachu and his crew are still going strong. With new adventures, more advanced gameplay and hundreds more monsters than ever before, the series has proven its staying power. It wouldn't surprise us to see Pokemon still staying active for another full decade - because we still gotta catch 'em all. Pokemon celebrate its 10th Anniversary with Captain Starlight on Tuesday

special celebrations, Pikachu will be inviting kids in the room to help
cut the Pokemon 10th Anniversary cake.
“Starlight relies on supporters like Nintendo to help provide a positive
distraction and some much needed fun for seriously ill children.
Activities like Pokemon’s 10th Anniversary party give the kids something
to look forward to, and allows Starlight to provide an opportunity for
kids to simply be kids and have fun - to do the things that illness can
often take away,” said Sean Coleman, Starlight Programs Manager.
“We are delighted to be able to participate in this activity. The
Starlight Children’s Foundation does so much to help sick kids. Anything
we can do to help entertain, amuse, and bring some joy to their lives is
especially rewarding for all of us at Nintendo," said Rose Lappin,

and hospitalized children by delivering innovative programs that restore
the fun, laughter and joy that serious illness can take away.
The Starlight Express Rooms are a part of a program of distractive
therapies which are designed to be an integral part of the total health
care of children. These programs provide sick children with a healing
environment that includes entertainment, diversion, fun and laughter.
Our Starlight Express Rooms create a place where kids can just be kids
and escape the loneliness, boredom and stress of hospitalized life.
Since establishing in 1994 in Australia, Nintendo have been a proud
partner of the Starlight Children’s Foundation. Nintendo’s support first
started with a donation of Nintendo 64 units for the Starlight Express
Rooms across the country. Since this time they have also provided

UPDATE: Pokemon Diamond/Pearl: Pokemon Transfers!
-09/05/06- |
New screenshots and information about the Pokemon transfers to Pokemon
Diamond and Pokemon Pearl were revealed at Yahoo Japan's Pokemon page.
The page goes into more detail about the transferring process that we
first learned from the magazine images (from the 08/30/06 news). The
page shows a four step process:
Step 1: Get the National Dex.
Step 2: Insert a compatible Pokemon GBA game: Ruby/Sapphire, FireRed/LeafGreen,
or Emerald into the GBA slot in the Nintendo DS. When you start
Diamond/Pearl, you can then select to transfer the Pokemon from the GBA
game to Diamond/Pearl.
Step 3: You can now transfer up to six Pokemon to the Pal Park,
where you need to re-capture them. You will need to re-capture the six
Pokemon at the Pal Park before you can transfer another set of six
Pokemon. Pokemon transfers to the Diamond/Pearl games are limited to 6
Pokemon per day (24 hour period), per cartridge (so if you have another
cartridge, you can transfer that once you've re-captured the six Pokemon
already there). Once you have transferred the Pokemon to Diamond/Pearl,
you can not transfer them back to your GBA game, so choose carefully.
Step 4: At the Pal Park's entrance, you'll receive Park Balls. These
Park Balls has a 100% capture rate, so your capture is guaranteed. The
challenge is to find the Pokemon in the Pal Park. The rarer the Pokemon,
the more difficult it will be to find that Pokemon. Once you've found
all six Pokemon, the Pokemon will then be transferred to your game's PC.

Ash's New Clothes! New Diamond/Pearl Season Description!
-09/04/06- |
Ash will be in a new set of clothes for the new season in Japan, as
shown in a new magazine scan. Little is known about the upcoming
Diamond/Pearl season in Japan, but some more information was released by
TV Tokyo's page on the new Diamond/Pearl season. The page is updated
with a short description of the beginning of the season: Hikari is a
ten-year-old girl who lives in Shinou. Today she is set to begin her
Pokemon journey. When she travels to a town's lab to get her first
Pokemon, she gets lost. At the lab, the three starter Pokemon, Naetle,
Hikozaru, and Pochama, starts to fight with each other. The three
Pokemon then ran away from lab.
As you may notice, there's no mention of Ash in that description. So
what kind of role Ash will play in the two hour special or the
Diamond/Pearl season, remains to be seen.
The new season will begin in Japan with a two hour special on September
28, 2006 (the same date that Pokemon Diamond/Pearl will be released in
Japan).
